My guess would be Thranduil's stronghold. They spend a significant amount of time in and around it, and the barrel escape is apparently the end of the first movie. This is where they can place a female minifig (Tauriel) and possibly Legolas, which makes it a good seller. Lots of play features, with trapdoors, booby-trapped front gates, prison cells and a river exit. If they add a spider or two, you've got multiple conflicts to play around with. It's also something a little different from most of the LOTR scenery, being a woodland fortress.

Yes, I think also. Thranduil's stronghold is much more useful for playable options.

That set would gives a wonderful place for Tauriel and other elf minifugures.

-> From my point of view is that set realistic, since we still have a lot of orcs but just two elves (Legolas and Haldir).

I would not expect a Rivendell set. Rivendell is beautiful, but it just isn't playable. The only things that happen there are a lot of secret councils. If they do Rivendell at all, it will be as a D2C set like Diagon Alley, and I doubt that would happen for another year at least, when they know if LOTR is a big seller or not. (Also, I suspect it will have figs from the Fellowship, not from the Hobbit.)

Yepp, my thought also. I think Rivendell will come between the waves in a kind "exclusive version" (for example like the 'Diagon Alley').

Link: Orthanc

If you move from right to left and stop when you see the carboard cutouts of Woody and Buzz from Toy Story, to their left you can clearly see Helm's Deep, and to the left of that you can see the top 1/3rd of Orthanc!

The Orthanc tower looks very promising!

I assume that are nearly 3.000 bricks. That is amazing!

It surely does! It's much taller than Helm's Deep, and while we can't see all of it,

I think that what we see is at least 1/2nd part of it. (Which means that it will be around as tall as one of those designer's head + body together that way)

Does make me wonder what they've got in store for us for the second wave of LOTR sets.

I hope the Dwarves in the Barrel escape set doesen't come with costumes special for that scene.

One thing that hasn't been discussed yet is the usefulness of the torsos on the dwarves. These look like some fantastic generic torsos for historical MOCs. They already have a great variety of colors available. So far I only see flesh possibly on Dwalin's torso? No matter, it seems like these sets are going to be great to pick up even if you are not a LOTR fan. So many useful molds and prints it is really exciting.

Ok, I looked for these informations on the LOTR-related topics but I didn't find anything. (maybe I failed searching, but there are so many LOTR topics that I was really lost over them)

So, this will be a MUST for army-builders, and I rely a lot on this miniset. Does anyone know anything more on this?

Please reply ! :D

This has been discussed in the LotR 2012 topic way back. But it seems to be that no one has seen anything about them so far...

So you're going to have to wait till something pops up. I am also eagerly anticipating them!

Good slide show that includes an angle on the back-of-the-head tattoo printing on Dwalin.

Thats not at all a good slide show. It is jsut the FBTB pictures that most people have seen already. the pictures are good but that video there adds nothing to it, it only makes for a wore viewing experience of the photos.

Thats a last alliance Elrond, not an Rivendell elrond.

Errr, Elves don’t age.

Merged with the main discussion.

What was the subject of that thread? Without it, it’s hard to understand what the poster was asking about.

Err, it's Elrond in his battle armour from the last alliance, opposed to his regular robes from Rivendell.

Also the poster wanted to know if anyone had seen the uruk hai poly bag as of yet.

I don't think deskp was making a comment on his age, but rather his outfit. The fig that can be seen on LEGO's website is wearing armor, which Elrond only wore during the Battle of Dagorlad, which means that it isn't a hint at a Rivendell set, but rather a Last Alliance set.

Also, I would like to know what that merged topic was about.

Well excuuuuuseeee meeee. I hadn't seen any of those pics, nor had I seen them referenced here, or seen any discussion on what new information they had provided.

He was asking about the Uruk-hai polybag set (though his actual question isn't clear for me).

Can anybody tell me whether LEGO has or will produce large baseplate in the typical colour used in the LotR sets (the brownish colour)? I'd love to put some sets (Helm's Deep, Orc Forge) on those plates.

If you mean 48x48 flat baseplate, it has been widely avaible in old gray, light bley and green (Grand Carousel) and not in any shades of brown or Darl Tan.

Thanks. I hope it'll be produced eventually.

Could someone post a pic of this Elrond fig? I've looked around the LEGO LotR site, but haven't been able to find him.

It comes from the gallery in the LotR game on the Lego website.

So do you guys feel like you have to pick up one of each set of the LOTR wave before the Hobbit wave comes out, just to “not fall too far behind?” That’s kind of how I’m feeling right now!

I became compulsive FOR this theme, which is very unlike me. Before LOTR came along I was strictly into Technic & Town and a very, very patient collector. But now I became so rabidly obsessed with Tolkien that I will have to wait for sales for the 2012 technic & city sets I want... thankfully, not that many so far. Only the new 4x4 RC off roader, the big yellow helicopter, and the city parking garage. The mining collection left me cold. I'll wait until january/february to pick them up since it's that time of the year that TRU tends to have sales on Technic & City (which might not happen with LOTR stuff). The LOTR/Hobbit stuff though, I will continue to rabidly collect and be a completionist!

As for Elrond pictured above... not that often does a minifig look BADASS instead of cute in my eyes but this one does. :dangry:

For reference, most minifigs look cute to me, even (especially!) intimidating villains like the Nazgul or Darth Vader. :vader:

I'm a minifig collector first and I buy sets when it makes sense cause of ridiculus minifigure prices. But yes, I do feel like I want to have all the lotr figures before The Hobbit sets arrive. I would also like to wait to see if any lotr charatchers shows up in hobbit sets seeing as this should decrease their price. (Looking at you Legolas)

Btw: I do buy sets for the sets when they are just too awesome. (Bag end looks like one of those)

A smart person in the right position would ask for lotr sets for christmas, then get alot more of them cause theyve proapbly gone cheaper.

Patience vs money
