AlphaQuad Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 I''m just gonna wait and pick up the sets at the LEGO store on Tuesday with and get VIP points too :( I haven't head of this polybag before! I was gonna snap a photo but the sales people kept walking by the LEGO aisle LOL
Fives Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Man, what a shame. Why make a Gandalf Polybag! At least it means that I won't be spending money of that one.
AlphaQuad Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Man, what a shame. Why make a Gandalf Polybag! At least it means that I won't be spending money of that one. Well it did have Gandalf a gray cape a printed map and some other little accessories like a sword, torch, staff, little rock formation, but I agree its a waste of a polybag.

The printed (Shire?) map is the only incentive, I guess. But then, it will stand in contrast wit the two stickered maps in An unexpected Gathering. I was hoping for an orc hunter polybag. Or better yet: A goblin polybag with a small bridge part that can be connected to the Goblin King Battle set.

Bilbo Baggins Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I thought the polybag would have Bilbo, too bad it is Gandalf
DarthPotato Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Yeah, another Gandalf the Grey is pretty disappointing. But I think the Elf polybag more than makes up for it.

ZCerberus Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I can't upload these sizes to flickr unless I pay for there stupid service! Oh noz! maybe you should upload to both and use pictures from Flickr to link to Brickshelf. Maybe that is too much work, but just a thought.
just2good Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 For those who cannot load the eBay link: I like the polybag! It's... cute.
The Legonater Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 So ,much for the map being any incentive. I fail to see why TLG insists on continuously reusing the Grail Map.
Fives Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Although it is another Gandalf, it seems like it could be a lame representation of the Troll cave, since it has a sword and some rocks. It could be meant to be when Gandalf finds Glamgring. Hopefully this isn't true, and we'll see a proper Troll set with the cave and all.
Wolvarie Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Would you mind showing a pic of the quiver all carved up? Sure. I would suggest taking more off at the bottom end of the quiver as it allows his hairpiece to be more centred and also allows him to look to the left. Hopefully with this pollybag we are going to see some more different elves. Will need plenty for the Battle of Five Armies. http://www.flickr.com/photos/38829611@N07/
TheLegoDr Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Thanks for sharing Wolvarie. I will consider doing that because those Elves need a quiver. But I'm not into customizing LEGO pieces. The Gandalf polybag has some okay pieces, but it isn't like you can army build Gandalf. The Mirkwood archer polybag is neat, but without any Elven hairpieces or even a dark green cape (although I'd prefer an olive green Hood), it seems silly to buy multiples. I can put anyone in a hood and call him an elf. Although, I must be silly since I did buy multiples. As far as Hobbit sets, they have been in this part of Nebraska for almost a week. It's really odd that they aren't anywhere else in the country. We are the last to get most sets. But I agree, they aren't always in the LEGO aisle. In one Wal-Mart they had them right outside the LEGO aisle and in another they had them up front with a lot of random Christmas toys. So I guess look around. And those characters in the character pack look awesome. I hope LEGO makes many more characters for us.
Wolvarie Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Waiting for some of those multiples to become available for less than double their store value on Bricklink. Come on America, show a bit of compassion on the rest of the world who misses out....please.
Pulp Detective Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) I suppose the polybag is refering about Gandalf's adventures on Dol Guldur. Edited November 25, 2012 by LOTR343
Wolvarie Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I suppose the polybag is refering about Gandalf's adventures on Dol Guldur. No the elf guard. I can't believe LEGO have put out Gandalf in a polybag. For double the price buy him in his cart and get Frodo as well. Makes no sense at all.
Ardelon Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I guess these Frodo and Gandlaf polybags are meant for people who arent into LEGO, dont want to get into LEGO in spite of the Middle Earth licenses, and just want an iconic character for cheap.
Seaber Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 If the Gandalf figure comes out in the UK, most likely as a Sun promotion, I'd get one. The pieces are nice and I could use more dark grey capes. It does bring the total number of Gandalf the Greys up to four, with another two rumoured for a 2013 release.
deskp Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Oh great... yet another set with gandalf in it...
Deathleech Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Waiting for some of those multiples to become available for less than double their store value on Bricklink. Come on America, show a bit of compassion on the rest of the world who misses out....please. Well at least it's not as bad as with the Uruk-hai polybag that is still going for SIX TIMES what people originally paid for it, and this is a month later. The Mirkwood Elf polybag just came out not even 2 weeks ago so give it some time and I am sure prices will fall. I am already seeing them for 8 bucks on eBay, which is only $3 over retail (remember retail is $4.99 here, NOT 3.99 since it's a TRU exclusive and they jack up prices). No the elf guard. I can't believe LEGO have put out Gandalf in a polybag. For double the price buy him in his cart and get Frodo as well. Makes no sense at all. Exactly my reasoning for the Frodo polybag from the first LotR wave. I get people want a cheap way to get an iconic character.. but for 7 more bucks you can get BOTH Frodo and Gandalf, AND a new horse, plus double the pieces of a polybag. Why would ANYONE EVER get the Gandalf or Frodo polybag? There is next to no incentive. They should of at least put Thorin in the poly as that way you are getting a super iconic character from the movie who also comes in a more expensive set the target audience wouldn't otherwise buy, and the Warg Attack set still has a number of exclusive characters in it. Exactly my reasoning too for wanting an elf ear hairpiece. Without the hairpiece, it doesn't look like an elf at all, it just looks like another human. The elven ears are the only way to distinguish the elves from humans on the small Lego minifigure scale. Don't get me wrong, the hood is incredibly useful and probably more so than the elf hair since you can use it for more things (Ithilien Rangers anyone??), but it just doesn't make the fig look like an elf.
DarthPotato Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Maybe giving Gandalf his hair in the polybag would be more appealing? He just needs Dumbledore's hair piece, so they wouldn't need to make any new molds. I still wouldn't buy that polybag though, but I am curious to see if anyone will build an army of Gandalfs.

HawkLord Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I'd like to be a completist and get the Gandalf polybag, but that means literally throwing money away. There's no reason to buy it other than to say "Look at me, I have all the LOTR/Hobbit polybags". There comes a point where the redundancy of being a completist over-rides the urge to collect.
