You don't Want gollum, frodo and the one ring?! They are the most iconic parts of LotR, if there was only one set surely this would be it

I do want them, but I'm approaching this theme as an expansion on Castle and not an entirely separate theme, for now, because I don't know if I want to start collecting another entire line, yet, so the fleshie minifigs aren't my top priority.

Did anyone notice (I didn't read all the posts  ) that the goblins in Moria use the Uruk-shield. That's a pity, because I really like those wing shaped shield they have in the movies.

I might get the Gandalf set, Shelob and Moria.

I like to have the whole Fellowship, but I don't think my wallet allows me to buy all the sets. But the prices for just the minifigs (on Bricklink or something similar) will be sky-high.. doubt..

My opinions on the sets now that we have detailed pictures:

Gandalf Arrives: Great iconic set and will be good for buying multiples of to get lots of the new horses (i think these horses are far better than the others and will want to sub out the old ones on my fav. castle sets)

Shelob Attacks: At first this was the only set I wasnt going to get but it is a great value (230 pieces for $20) and I would end up buying gollum and sam on Bricklink anyway. (Additionally i may just have to buy it to wash out the bad memories I have from Aragog  )

Uruk-Hai Army: In my opinion the best set by far. Lots of Uruks and two amazing looking rohan helmets.

The Orc Forge: I will get this set as a way to get more Orcs and Uruks but it seems a little to "playset-ish" for me. My son wil probably love the light up brick and all the moving features

Weathertop: :cry_sad: I cant believe how expensive this is! This would be my favorite set if it were $10 or $20 less expensive (IMHO it should be around $35). I will probably get it though

Mines of Moria: This set looks like an amazing set for peices and minifigs but i will probably redesign the actual structure. And of course the cave troll

Helms Deep: Wow this set looks huge and Theoden and Haldir have to be my favorite minifigs. Only thing bad is the Berzerker, he needs a real helmet

Well, wit the sets you will have, the only character missing to get the whole fellowship will be Aragorn, so maybe you can get Weathertop too and you're done.

9469 Gandalf Arrives - New horse mold (love the color scheme), another wizard and a great variation on Frodo's clothing -

will buy at least one

9470 Shelob Attacks - Just a must have for the figs, Shelob will be a nice monster addition for Heroica. The Ring, absolutely fabulous.

9471 Uruk-Hai Army - The two Rohannir are supurb and enough Uruk's for a large army. And I thought the price was higher, so probably 2 or 3 of this set. The bigger the army the better. And again the nice new horse.

9472 Attack on Weathertop - The least favorite of mine, but because I just want all the sets and figs, one will be in my collection.

9473 Mines of Moria - The best figs, I really love the Moria Orcs and the cave troll is stunning. With the shown pictures I will probably start MOCing very soon, so I just have to fit in the figs. I can see myself buying 1 or 2 of these sets.

9474 The Battle of Helm's Deep - Again the figs are stunning, and I´m really pleased that most walls are brick build. I do have to consider how to integrate this into a nice MOC. Will need a lot of thinking time, but still on my wish list.

9476 The Orc Forge - I hope the bold fig will get some headgear and because I love the pointy ears, I will probably pick this set up 2 to 3 times as well.

Taking this in consideration, I had to promiss myself (and my wife) that I have to save up some money for this summer and don´t spend to much on Lego sets until the release... Is it june-juli yet

Digging all of these.

I seem to be in the minority in that Weathertop is my favourite set. It's one of my favourite locations from the books/movies and I just think the set looks really neet and compact, Yeah, it's a bit expensive for what it is, but I'm pretty sure that's mostly beacause of the minifigs. Five and two horses in a set that size is a lot. I'm never going to be able to afford all of these but Weathertop will be my "treat yourself" day 1 purchase. I like the look of the Orc Forge as well.

I just want to thank you all for the pics and links. There are so many things and details that I have to breath a little -- but I can say the LotR sets look much better now that we have some detailed pics!

One thing I did not find are pics from the interior of Helm's Deep outer walls -- the great hall looks very nice, but I'm still curious about the inside of the walls of the Hornburg.

Merry is also missing with just those three sets, but he is included in Weathertop.. Well, let see what time brings

Yes... King Theoden may be one of the best minifigs ever created by TLG.

6865882385_8c858245af_z.jpg

I just love that they got the horse on the ridge of the helmet perfect. As was mentioned previously. Instead of making a new mold for the helm of Theoden, Eomer, and a common rohan soldier they used different colors for the helmet and different printing. All different and yet cohesive as a faction. Genious strategy as the mold is the most expensive part.

I am really blown away with all of these sets. The minifigs are beyond incredible and I really like the builds as well. In no other theme have I seen so much detail (and bricks) put into the terrain.

Their are so many brick bricks in light bley it makes me drool. The detailed interior of helms deep is inspiring. So many weapons. It looks like we will be getting tons of the new CMF highlander longswords and the CMF spears. The banner is awesome as well.

The new horse looks incredible. It appears to me that they will be able to wear the old barding and head pieces. But I would have loved someone to put them on and take a photo to make sure.

Can anyone tell if the arrow lops are made out of a new 1x thickness (or width) panel piece?

6865897535_2f5f4d2d06_z.jpg

If so that is a brilliant solution without all of the extra brick. Also adds an element that goes well with the other panels thus allowing odd stud number construction with panels.

There is so much to take in. So many photos, so many new molds, too much info...

Fantastic looking sets, based on these I think LOTR is probably going to be my new favorite licensed theme. Great designs, good parts (And some new parts), and great figs (except gollum  ).

Theoden’s armor and helmet are beautifully printed, with Eomer and the generic guy not far behind. But the helmets are pretty bulky, which is a bit of a shame. Haldir looks great too.

Nothing to say about the new horses – they look good and will have their uses, but I don’t think they were necessary.

Thank goodness I’m not a collector and don’t have to fight inner battles on what to get. As it is, I can see myself getting the Uruk-hai Army and the Mines, and possibly the Orc Forge. Helm’s Deep is beyond my reach, and the other sets don’t really appeal to me.

Yes! Decent pictures, finally :cry_happy: ! I've said it before, but those figs are fantastic. I'm very glad I finally got to see some crisp pictures of the Rohirrim and their designs. I must say I'm impressed. Those helmets are so incredibly detailed and I'm very glad to have more legs with printing. I'm very satisfied with the riders of Rohan and I wish to have lots of them  . Helms Deep is definitely my favorite set here. They're all great, 'cep maybe the forge, but the castle is my number 1.

It's hard to decide what to buy, sweet agony. I know I need 8 horses, 2 Haldirs, Theoden and a few Rohan Riders, ant lots of elven hairpieces (they are unisex!). I don't need baddies. I am not decided on a building where my elves shall live. Helms deep is nice, but the HP Hogwarts is also a real elvenlike building... . Either I buy a helms deep and a few Uruk armies and sell all the baddies or buy a Hogwarts and bricklink the rest.

Did you guys notice The Hobbit poster? It reads: "The Hobbit -- An Unexpected Journey -- Coming Winter 2012"

But it's a LEGO poster, not a movie one!

You can see it clearly in here -- http://www.flickr.com/photos/fbtbnet/6867232491/in/set-72157629292658099/

Do you think we'll be getting even more LotR sets (a second wave based on The Hobbit movie) for Christmas?

It may sound like wishful thinking, but...

Yes I think we will be getting a second wave just before Christmas. It should coincide with the release of the movies. Nothing less would make sense marketing wise. Not sure what the licensing agreement is though...

The excitement I have felt for this new line has been building since the first whispers came out last year. Almost more than when Lego first annouced the Star Wars line. What has impressed me the most with the pictures viewed today is the detail and ideas and techniques from the AFOL building community that Lego has put into the sets. Also noticed this on Jabbas Palace photostream, but I digress.

While some has stated they are disappointed with Weathertop, the fact it opens up, with a detailed interior and you get not one but two Nazgul and horses has got me putting it on my buy list. Also there is the Uruk-hai army with its 6 minifigs and a new horse section of wall and crazy bastilla...only drawbacks is the price that Lego will slap on it for the Australian market, expecting 60-80 dollars per set and I want at least 4...hello bricklink and the cheap exchange rate from my US friends. The other is I would have liked to see maybe a 3:3 split uruks to rohirrim, but hopefully battlepack for them down the track. Maybe even December...pleeze :sweet::cry_happy:

Helms Deep also looks amazingly awesome and while it will be $200-250+ here it is a lock. The elf as I am sure someone has already stated is not Legolas, but Hadir or one of the elves that came to fight in the hopeless battle. Would have loved a few more of these, but points to more down the track...I mean why waste the torso stamp when you can add another 4 to a battlepack(damn you Lego!!!) Would have liked a few more Rohirrim. Loved the vid over on FBTB that shows the mechanism for "throwing Gimli" awesome. Love the detail of Theoden's minifig is almost worth the price alone, the new grey brick pattern awesome, also a new slimmer arrow slit piece noticed near the sally port near the main door, Gimli and his axes, the new uruk helmets, the interior of Helm's deep, bezerker with the bomb, the huge horn tower, the deepling wall that just screams Uruk-hai battle pack wall add ons...maybe some more sets later on that could add to the set, Gandalf the white and Eomer with 4 mounted Rohirrim...One of the best sets for a while, just a must have.

The other one that took my fancy was the Mines of Moria playset. They have a Cave Troll!!!! Great new mould and colours and printing. I was a big worried we may just get a troll from Kingdoms. While not as substantial as I would have liked allows for additional modding and has some fantastic design and brick features. Love the goblins, but more please. Wish Legolas had a cloak, but easily fixed, love Pippin's bucket and the well scene, detailing on the doors and columns.

Really liking the work that Lego have obviously been doing for a while and you would think have a long line of sets that they could put out. The only gripe I maybe have with this is that Gandalf arrives will be the cheapest set here is Australia, with everything else in the 40 - 250 dollar bracket and I know that many of my young Lego fans just can't swing that kind of dosh around especially with most of them wanting both LOTR and Starwars. Just too many good sets out there at the mo.

This wave is mind-boggingly awesome. Helm's Deep might be the best set Lego has done, ever. The size, the design, the details (the interior!), the figures (especially Theoden - wow) and the price - there is nothing I don't like about that set. The printed pieces, weapons and accessories in the interior are the icing on the cake. I will buy this set the second it hits the shelves...

It's a little disappointing that the next wave will be about the Hobbit (I would have preferred LotR battle packs), but it seems like it will come out in December, in time for Christmas :sweet:

Very happy how this is all turning out!
