Yeah, why should Gollum have a stud on his back? It's not like Lego cows, horses, pigs, goats, dogs, trolls, tauntauns and pteranodons have studs on their backs! Imagine if the standard Lego minifig had a big ugly stud on its head! It would look ridiculous...

Oh, wait.

Hehe. :classic: Yeah, it's useful to have a stud somewhere on the fig. Apart from the top of the head, the standard minifig has a neck, too, which is also useful for castle and related stuff.

I agree the stud on a mold figure is what gives that characterization according to Lego, besides it can be useful as other mentioned for attaching purposes.

Like Samwise having daydreams about holding a whip and making Gollum carry his pack on his back. Taskmaster Sam!

I was just looking at the troll in the Moria set, and I started thinking about future Mordor trolls we may see. Most Mordor trolls wear big helmets and I wonder how LEGO may pull that off. The cave troll has two studs on his head, so do people think hat a helmet mold could be made to fit on the head and attach to the studs, or do people think a new mold will be made?

So, how many uruk swords and shields are there in the Helm's Deep set...? In the toy fair pics, I saw 3 swords and 1 shield, but on the box pic from Brickset, I see 2+2. What do you think?

I would expect to see a whole new troll with a helmet molded on rather than a helmet to go on the troll.

I would expect a new troll figure with its own helmet.

Armored trolls often have breastplates 'n all as well, so I can see them using a thick layer on the body for that, or just a print on the body.

But I can't see them making a new helmet mold, it would be better if they made a new figure then. Let's hope we'll see one in a Minas Tirith set in the next wave.

I'd say there are 2 shields and 2 swords as depicted on the box, at the very least.

If not, then there would be some extra stuff, but the Uruk-hai without the breastplate seems to be the one they use for the axe-wielding Uruks.

Here is a box pic of the Uruk-Hai Army from the toy fair; on this picture, the plate goes with the giant halberd/axe. I suppose there is no general rule, they just made a bunch of Uruk-hai with different equipment setups. It doesn't matter much, since you can just move the equipment around to your liking.

I am a bit torn on the breastplate issue. In the movie, all Uruk-hai wore armor except the berserkers. But adding extra plates for all of them would kill most of the variety, and you can't show off the otherwise great torso print either. Also, it is possible that the long hair and the breastplate clash (can't be fit on a minifigure at the same time). Any info on this one? Both are existing pieces, so it should be possible to test.

Actually, the Uruks that attack the Fellowship at Parth Galen in the first film did not wear breastplates. The majority of them had the Armour that is represented on the torso prints. So, having a few Uruks without breastplates would just mean you have a few scouts in your army. As for the hair, I know that it can work, but in just looks a bit funny, becaus ethe hair is kinda pushed up a bit and sits at an awkward position.

Also, on a somewhat related note, if people are wondering what might be a good sword for the orcs in the Orc Forge set, the scimitars from the Pharoah's Quest theme would work beautifully, I think.

I think they should have just created a special elf bow. A nice recurve with writing on the limbs would be nice.

*huh* Are you serious? That would be too much detail on one accessory.

Well they didn't.

But they did.

I don't mind that Legolas doesn't have a special bow. There were so many other special new molds, and the bow wasn't a very important one.

Anyone got any ideas on what the Hobbit sets will be? I would love to see the 3 trolls, but I don't think LEGO would make a set with 3 giant prefab trolls.

The problem with LOTR LEGO is that LOTR is full of such giant things, like dragons, mumaks and the eagles (That are essential to the storyline) and I don't know whether LEGO can make all of these giant structures and creatures. I hope they do, and do them justice.

Link is broken :cry_sad:

It's a link to Brick Forge Recurve Bow :)

I'd much rather have a new axe mold for Gimli than a bow for Legolas. Brick Forge already has supplied us with an amazing looking bow, but I haven't seen an axe yet that looks like Gilmi's.

I agree, even though Legolas is my favorite. If you want a special bow, you can buy it online without the rest of the set. ;)

They aren't scimitars, they are khopesh (sickle sword)

Well, yes, but these two sets are meant to be for the battle of Helm's Deep, where most Uruks wore heavy armor. For an 'Ambush on the Fellowship' set, plain armor would be perfectly reasonable. For now, I'm only interested in building the battle of Helm's Deep.

One more thing I slightly miss is crossbows. In the movie, they were used by some of the Uruk-hai. Then again, it's easy to fix from BL (or even PAB, they actually offer pearl dark gray crossbows).

One thing to keep in mind is that they're specifically going to be based on the movie rather than the book. So it will probably depend on which scenes/locations the movie focuses on or where they ramp up the action a lot. Given the first half of the hobbit isn't exactly actioned packed, and much of the action is fairly low-key or twee they're probably going to spice it up with stuff that is only referenced or described in passing in the book. For example in the trailer there's some Gandalf action that is referenced in the books but not actually described.
