Blondie-Wan Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Yeah we knew, But what exactly is that case? I'm asking because I'm not sure of buying it. It's a "project case" - just a flat, square-ish plastic case about a foot across and a couple inches deep, with a hinged lid. Isis has been making these under license from LEGO for a few years now. Apart from this one, all the ones I've seen are in red, yellow, blue or green (lighter / brighter than this green), and have regular minifigure faces (generally City-oriented) printed on the front. They usually sell for about ten bucks, and come with a standard large green baseplate (32 x 32), though this one appears not to. They're stackable cases, and nothing says you have to use them for LEGO bricks, but obviously that's the thinking behind some sort of storage container. I do find them useful; I have six of them that I store my collectible minifigures in, along with some PAB elements, but they're nothing extraordinary.
Niku Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I prefer the Rohan helmets the way they are than rather to have a hole for a plume. I think the Rohan Soldier helmet could be used too, as a type of hoplite unit, in addition to the spartan helmet. Wich could also be used for some types of Rohan units like Meduseld Guards.
urukhai1991 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Has anyone tried using Brasso to remove the gold coloring on Eomers helmet? If you are like me and purchased multiple Uruk Armies, without the gold coloring on the helmet, the Eomer figure could just be part of Eomer's personal guard, or with a torso change, and maybe removing the green cape, you have usable soldiers of Rohan. Just some thoughts.

Fives Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 NO. I do not destroy Lego. Ever... Finally, another person who shares the same belief as me! I never ruin LEGO, unless I have many extras of a piece I care little for; only then am I able to experiment with altering pieces, but still, it pains me. Also, Durin's Bane, when are we to see updates on your great Helm's Deep endevour? With the release of the sets, you should soon be able to add more figures to your MOC.

Lol I have two uruks and a nazgul. It will not be on display until Brickfair in January in Alabama... so it's going slow. There is a lot of tricky angles to figure out so that's what I have been doing...

Just some thoughts. Why remove the gold coloring (and ruin the helmet), when you can simply use it as it is, for more diversity among your troops? Even if you want your Eomer fig to be unique, he wasnt the only guy with a decorated helmet.., On a related note, I would suggest using the regular castle guard helmet for common Rohan troops. It has the dark-age / viking feel to it that the Rohirrim have, too.
Philip Robin Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I just finished the building of Moria and Uruk-Hai Army, and I have to say these figures are incredible. Definitely the best I've seen from TLG. The sets are amazing as well, Moria especially. It's much sturdier and better looking than I first thought. The hobbits are perfect.

His helmet works great with the regular rohirrim soldier (along with the cape) to make Theodan's royal guard :) As for altering LEGO pieces - I find it difficult too. But, I always succomb and highlight the fleshies faces' yellow. I know, its bad. But its hard to mix the two colors :( Knowing that ill be buying a lot of LOTR (and hoping this theme lasts like SW) I'm not sure if ill do the same for LOTR fleshies. Maybe, ill keep the dwarves and hobbits fleshie, but highlight gondor and rohan faces... Maybe I can get some posters thoughts?

I don't have a need to change there colors, if i don't have enough of one i buy more. Never mix
Philip Robin Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 The one thing getting on my nerves in TMOM set is that Legolas is unable to shoot his now properly. The hair prevents him from turning his head, so he cannot shoot his bow across his body. He has to shoot it like a gun from one side.
Angeli Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Finally, another person who shares the same belief as me! I never ruin LEGO, unless I have many extras of a piece I care little for; not even then :) I even use lego that I've broken (stepped on, left on sunlight, etc :) f I can not combine it, I just keep it in the box... it is so hard for me to trow away lego :) <-- this is a sword with two edges, think how it look swhen you build 1m high tower and just then realise that one of the bricks in the bottom is swirled from the sun and does not fit as it should :) pain in the neck ;)

Never mix Well its not so much have not having enough LEGO. I plan to incorporate LOTR with Castle, Kingdom, Black Knights, etc. Fleshie and Yellow clash. If LOTR was going to be a single wave (like POTC, e.g.,) I'd change all the figs. However, I'm sure that wont be the case. So i'm still trying to figure out which LOTR figs to alter, and which to leave alone. I'm leaning towards altering the race of men mini-figs, and leave the dwarves, hobbits, and elves as they are. But then again, I have all those elf mini-figs from series 3. Such a dilemma
Fives Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Got my order today!!!! The first thing I did was got all the figures from their sets! These are THE BEST Minifigs LEGO has EVER MADE! I apologize for all the capitals, but I'm am so excited! I haven't built any of the sets (except for Gandalf's cart), but I can't wait to get these all built and see them in all their glory!
Lynx Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Video review of Helm's Deep ("Brickqueen") For an excellent written/ pictorial review see the Historical Themes index of this very forum. :)

urukhai1991 Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 (edited) Has anyone taken thought to how many Uruk Hai Army sets would be required to have a relatively accurate length for the deepening wall? I read that the wall stood 20 ft high, and could fit four men abreast in width, but I cant seem to find much on the actual length. Thoughts? Edited May 19, 2012 by urukhai1991

I read that the wall stood 20 ft high, and could fit four men abreast in width, but I cant seem to find much on the actual length. Thoughts? To have a good relation to the castle section, I'd like to have three Uruk-hai army sets. One (unchanged) directly adjacent to the castle wall. The drain part would go into the middle, and on the outside, I'd put another two Uruk-hai army wall sections (modified so they are flat rather than with the convex outpocket).
TheDarkness Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 The official page has been updated and now features Weathertop. http://thelordoftherings.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx The animation looks nice. The video presentation was rather ordinary. The set looks pretty nice, though I'm not a fan of the "defence mechanisms" Still, it is aimed at attracting children. It has made me ponder how to create a larger, to scale Weathertop
Legonardo Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 The video is hilarious "Oh no the arrows didn't stop him! whats frodo going to do? and the trap door saves frodo! (back to his monotone voice) but enough play fo...."
KristofBD Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Nice vid on the lego website, though I had to chuckle a bit when as the designer is a bit nervous it seems...

Oh thank god, someone else who understands how the wall is supposed to look instead of just tacking on alot of unmodden uruk hai army sets
piemaster1446 Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Just finished building Helm's Deep and it looks amazing! I got it and Weathertop last night and now I have the complete Fellowship. I now need to go buy The Uruk Hai Army.
