urukhai1991 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Here in Mexico we will probably have to wait till september. I don't know how close you are to the Arizona border, but if you are willing to deal with the border wait time, you could come and get them in the states right now !
Marty McFly Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I got a reply from LEGO's twitter account. They expect sets to be in Australian stores "mid to late June". :) My question about prices was not answered. Sounds about right. I've already preordered my sets from shopforme.com.au and they are shipping mid-June.
K-Nut Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I didn't see this anywhere in the thread, so I thought I'd post it here. On the back of the promotional Frodo poster from S@H, it says: LEGO: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Your Journey Begins December 1st 2012 Anyone else with the poster see this?
Lynx Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I didn't see this anywhere in the thread, so I thought I'd post it here. On the back of the promotional Frodo poster from S@H, it says: Anyone else with the poster see this? Thanks for posting. I suspect it could be the Hobbit board game. I don't think the (potential) video game will be out so soon after the Lord of the Rings game. And such a precise date for sets seems unusual (given the vague "Summer" estimate for the current line).

I'm hoping it'll be the sets, but I'm not sure. They've done that with Ninjago this past year and other themes before, but I'm not sure if they've ever done it with a license... Actually, now that I think about it, DC Superheroes came out right before Christmas, so There's hope. They'll probably update the mini-site with content, though.
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Here's for some hopeful wishing that the teaser is for the video game.
Churchill Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 How about Eowyn for a promotional fig? She's one that could have multiple versions. I built Gandalf Arrives, Shelob, and the Urak-hai, and I think Eomer is one of my favorite minifigs of all time, especially when he's on horseback.

Hopefully we'll get non exclusive Eowyn figures if we get a second LOTR wave

Actually, now that I think about it, DC Superheroes came out right before Christmas, so There's hope. The date sounds about right for the sets. The Hobbit's release date in the US is December 13. On the other hand, the "YOUR journey begins" second-person wording is unusual and might indicate that it's a game they're talking about. I think Lynx could be right, the board game is the only thing that fits the date and the phrasing.

Blondie-Wan Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 (edited) If we are talking promotional minifigures, there is none more perfect than Tom Bombadil. Of course, Peter Jackson decided to omit Tom from the movies completely, so those who have never read the books (the large majority of LoTR fans IMO) would have no idea who he is. I would love to see him in his blue outfit and hat. Of course, I'm also pretty sure LEGO's LoTR license only covers characters and events that were depicted in the films. Indeed, the licensing arrangement is actually with Warner Bros., as opposed to the books' publishers or the Tolkien estate. Nothing outside the film series will be overtly represented in official sets... but of course, I'm sure we'll see plenty of EBers' MOCs based on the excised material, and perhaps the other books. If you want a better Gamling I suggest this torso with dark gray or dark red arms and Eomer legs: That torso print is great, but of course the hands don't match. It won't work for a purist version (i.e., one built without removing hands or arms from torsos). Edited May 22, 2012 by Blondie-Wan
Fives Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 It would make very little sense for LEGO to release only a board game before the first Hobbit movie. Then again, if they wait until after the film is out, they could make sets that actually look like scenes depicted in the movie, and not have the 'innacuarte sets' problem like in past licensed themes.

Unless they go safe and do Bag end, rivendell and gollum cave wich have been seen before (gollum cave has changed I'm sure but come on its a cave and would only be a small set) Either way the results of the sets made bfore the release of the movie depends on what meterial the film makers give lego. It takes about 6 months to develop a theme I've heard and its about 6 months till december atm. They are done shooting the first movie I believe (mostly anyways) so their designs will have been finalized some time ago. IF (and thats a big if) lego has a decent connection with the movie people the hobbit sets have reason to be quite movie accurate.
Omicron Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 It won't work for a purist version (i.e., one built without removing hands or arms from torsos). What kind of logic is that? :P It wouldn't be purist with the legs and head either. :P -Omi
CMP Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 What kind of logic is that? :P It wouldn't be purist with the legs and head either. :P Having a different definition of purist doesn't mean it's flawed logic. If purist is using only official LEGO parts, then it wouldn't make sense to remove the arms or hands, LEGO sees the entire torso assembly as one part.

LRDark Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Then looks like he won't get to make his Gamling fig then. :P -Omi I'm sure purists unwilling to exchange the the bare hands for gloved hands will be perfectly fine settling for that torso. Lego doesn't even seem all too concerned regarding gloves for this line; I've a feeling us purists won't mind following suit.

Omicron Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 (edited) It's only an issue if the owner has a problem with it. Well from I understand, hardcore purists wouldn't mix yellow and flesh, whether it be parts and/or figs. At least that's what I gather from being on this site for so long and in the community even longer. My point is you gotta break the boundaries if you ever want something. Because you can't always rely on Lego to do it for you. -Omi Edited May 22, 2012 by Omicron
TheDoctor Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Sorry to detract the topic away from the purists debate But I read a few pages back that the sets would be released in the UK in 11 days, probably 9 or 10 now Just wondering how we know this, i've searched and found nothing, surely some site would be taking pre-orders by now

There are many types of purists, and some of those may include ones who wish not to remove hands, as it is considered one piece, yet is still perfectly content with having yellows represent the colour of men along with the colour Lego has chosen. I, for one, am perfectly fine with that. For those that wish to remain purists with those boundaries, it is a perfectly acceptable torso.

If the purist is going by Lego's view, then they would have to make Gamling flesh because it is for a licensed theme. They wouldn't mix the yellow skinned fig in with the licensed products either, because Lego's licensed figs are flesh. Just saying. -Omi

Purists don't have to do something the way Lego intends it to be. There are plenty of examples of yellow figures for Licensed themes made from official parts. Anyway, this is getting into an area not related to Lord of the Rings.
Fives Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 If you want the opinion of another 'purist' on what the exactly a 'pursuit', I think it is someone who only uses LEGO's official products. They will make custom figs only if it does not mean using other materials (I've heard a lot about sculpy), or ruining parts (breaking pieces to make them look different). That being said, changing flesh figs to yellow is completely fine, since they are still completely made up of official LEGO parts, and the parts have not been modified in an irreversible way.
