Lynx Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Just a general question about the face printing in LotR sets: All of my figures have what looks like a sticker that covers the whole circumference of the head and from just above the chin to forehead in height. There are distinct lines on top and bottom as well as multiple, parallel lines in between. They are pretty much invisible unless exploded to direct, bright light. Almost like the one ring and fire. I don't remember these lines from my last LEGO sets (which were in the early 90s, mind you), and in some characters I find them quite annoying. I'm assuming that the face printing somehow works by printing a sticker onto the face and guess it's due to the level of detail. But still, if anybody could tell me if these lines are new or have been around for a while, that would be nice.

It's something I've noticed with recent figs from the last few years (I think it's started when the fleshies began in 2004). It is kinda annoying, but it isn't a sticker, so don't worry about it peeling off or anything.

Essentially they print the face on the fig, not unlike it was coming from an inkjet printer. The lines at top and bottom indicate the boundaries of the printable area. The vertical lines are the rows or tracks of the printer head.
Bilbo Baggins Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I think that most of the themes with Fleshie minifigures have this same issue.
deskp Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 For what it's worth Galadriel in the lotr lego game, uses Elizabeth swan hair with elf ears, propbly wont be seeing a galadriel fig anytime soon.

wesker Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 For what it's worth Galadriel in the lotr lego game, uses Elizabeth swan hair with elf ears, propbly wont be seeing a galadriel fig anytime soon. Lego never uses the same designs as the video games for unmade characters. They're more likely to keep using the Legolas/Haldir hairpiece for the rest of the Elves regardless of gender.
SheepEater Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited) Considering that the 2nd wave of LOTR sets will probably feature a much better ratio of Return of the King scenes, I think the female character that is the most likely to be represented in a set is Eowyn, because she appears in a climactic, pivotal ACTION filled scene. And she won't need any new special hair mold for elven ears. Arwen is next, if only for the flight to the ford scene, untrue to the book might it be. They probably won't create any other scene she appears in, because Lego sets are marketed to little boys and they want action, not romance. Though I'd love a coronation scene. Same reasoning goes for a "Lothlorien" or "Mirror of Galadriel" scene for Galadriel; though I'd love to have that scene I'm an adult and my tastes are different than a little boy or a tween. Maybe little girls would love a Lothlorien or Mirror of Galadriel scene with tons of pretty flowers and trees, foliage and such. They'd just have to paint the box pink and put it in the girls' aisle. I know geeks like me would find it anyway. Remember, back when the movies came out, Mattel made a Barbie Arwen/Aragorn set and Barbie Galadriel. Not sure how successful they were, though. To the girls in the audience, do you think my idea makes sense? I know MOCs made by serious female AFOLs tend to feature TONS of flowers, trees, and details and I'd love that in an official Lego set. There isn't really lots of colorfull flowers anywhere in the mvoies tho, perhaps the lushes most colorfull palce in the movie is The Shire. I dont think the "girlie girls" that doesent like the movies will like the lego sets anyways. How do you know this? Seen it in a gameplay video. Edited June 6, 2012 by deskp
Lynx Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Just noticed that video game Boromir has a red cape and Aragorn a brown one. I guess I'll change my minis, take the spare red from Helm's Deep and give it to Boromir (actually quite accurate to the movie) and the brown to Aragorn.

He looks mroe acurate in the brown cape he has in the set, the red color of hes cape in the movie aswell as the brown fur makes brown a better fit for the lego minifigure. aragorns hair in game is brown hes cape is black, there is a clrear diference. Fives Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 LEGO Lord of the Rings Videogame Gameplay footage: Thanks! It looks like they will be including some book only things, such as Glamdring glowing. I lov that you can equip different things as you go along in the game. So excited!

Aragorn's cape looks brown to me (the scene when the heroes are running over the bridge of Khazad-dum). Boromir's cape is red when he arrives in Rivendell. http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/8/84876/2005528-boromir.jpg It looks very Gondorian, and I like the look on the LEGO miniature. I guess that's one of the nice things about LEGO. My Boromir will have a red cape and yours a brown one.
King of Nynrah Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 LEGO Lord of the Rings Videogame Gameplay footage: In this video Nick Ricks says that there will be over 80 characters in the game. That's an improvement over DC at least!
LEGOTR Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 It makes me so excited to play the video game to see that that guy was so knowledgeable about LOTR. As long as he was on the designing team I feel the game will be in safe hands. Also Gandalf putting his hat on Pippin cracked me up

Lets hope they use one spot for all versions of one characther like lego HP. potc had 80 including duplicates. Edited June 6, 2012 by deskp

Lets hope they use one spot for all versions of one characther like lego HP. potc had 80 including duplicates. I also hope they do that for duplicates. It upset me that they didn't for POTC. It sounds like they will be including scenes and characters from the book. It makes me wonder if we'll see Tom and Goldberry, Bill Ferny, Glorfindel, The Barrow-Wights, Imrahil, Halbarad and the Grey Company, Elrohir and Elladden, just to name a few. I really wonder how they will tackle scary characters like Gothmog and The Mouth. Either way, it seems like the guy who was in charge of the game development knows his LOTR stuff, so I'm not too worried about it. Edited June 6, 2012 by Fives
SheepEater Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited) There is now a Shelob Attacks CGI animation! But not on the Middle Earth map - on the Lego main page itself. http://www.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx I'm kinda disappointed that all Gollum's doing is waving his fish around. But Shelob's awesome animation more than makes up for it Now only Helm's Deep needs an animation! Edited June 6, 2012 by SheepEater
Fives Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Just found this on the LEGO.com homepage as well. http://videogames.lego.com/en-us/LEGOLordoftheRingsVideoGame/AboutTheGame/Features/Default.aspx?icmp=COUS23HomeWN3VideogamesNewVideogame Sounds like this game is truly going to be in a much more epic scale compared to the other LEGO games.
Haltiamieli Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I really wonder how they will tackle scary characters like Gothmog and The Mouth. Dunno, both of them are very much on the fringe of being pure comic relief already in the film if you ask me, so I don't think it will be too hard for Lego to make them appear kid-friendly enough in the game.
Bilbo Baggins Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I'm so excited for this game. Specially since it will include parts from the books.
Elander Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 theonering.net: Warner Brothers Interactive says a LEGO ‘Hobbit’ videogame is in the works ...after all! We saw a lot of LotR videogames for the last years. The option for a longer license is allways open. I think it would be wise to create LEGO-sets based of present/future videogames. What do you think regarding The Battle for Middle-earth
