Orange Leader Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 It's a good thing that the LotR sets are selling very well in the rest of the world. When does the LotR sets hit the whole of Europe? I thought it was August, but Germany's LEGO online shop has them already available.
BrickBob Studpants Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 The sets are also available in some Swiss toy stores, so it shouldn't take long for the rest of Europe to get them BTW, the set exclusivity seems to be different around here, by this I mean that the Weathertop set is the exclusive one instead of the Orc Forge (the latter is available at every place that sells the LOTR sets and is featured in the catalog, Weathertop on the other hand is currently only available on s@h and absent from the catalog). Quite a weird choice as you can't complete the Fellowship without owning 9472, so that one should be more essential than the Forge and therefore easier to be acquired
CM4Sci Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Please don't yell at me for this, but I watched Fellowship of the Ring for the first time last night. The sets were very detailed, and they were just like the movie! I picked up the Gandalf set a while ago (about 3 months) so I got the Mines of Moria set. Very nice set, the minifigures are really cool. -Sci
Blaze Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Orange-Leader, I just ordered my first lots lego set from marktplaats.nl (dutch ebay, don't know if its against some forum rule to add a site? Please tell me if so, I will delete it right away..). The retailer said it should arrive thursday. I can pm you his details if you like? He seems legit, has a kvk number and you can also pick up the sets if you like (I live too far away, otherwise I was going to get them myself). I paid 38 euro for an urukhai army set, which isn't that expensive I thought and he has all the sets except weather top.
TAFOL Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 @ Blaze: Could you please PM me the link to that Marktplaats-advertisement, as I'm quite interested in the LotR-sets too?
The Legonater Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I just finished watching the Fellowship again, and I was thinking that the Legolas figure doesn't look much like him. It's not the face or torso-- both look great. I think it's all in the hair. The hair doesn't really have the feel... It really needs the parts hanging over his shoulders. I have the same sentiments. It would seem to me that the main reason they used that hair piece is because they were already using it for Haldir (unless, of course, they're not. It sure looks that way, though). I am really hoping that in the future, we get a more accurate hair piece for Legolas, something more akin to the Hippie hairpiece. Not exactly that piece, of course, but something similar.
SheepEater Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) Woo-hoo! Finally completed my LOTR collection! Turns out that I did got to pay only 79.99 for helm's deep (from Toys R Us Canada)! I was so angry when they sent me a cancellation email that I phoned them demanded to the lady to let me talk to her manager, at first he was offering me the $45 rebate he offered everyone else, but I said NO WAY, I'm entitled to a $100 rebate, I said he was breaking the law and I threatened to sue him with the help of the office of consumer protection. He balked. I gave up on my other order of five Helms deep's though - not worth the hassle. Got the 3 smallest sets from Walmart about 3 weeks ago, and got the 3 remaining sets (Orc Forge, Weathertop, Moria) directly from Lego to get the Frodo poster. So far I've had minor printing issues. Once I have built every set I'm gonna give Lego a call. Shelob attacks: Frodo's eyebrows on his serious face are off (the same face is fine on my Weathertop) Weathertop: Aragorn's pants pattern is misaligned with the torso pattern One of the Nazgul has a silver belt buckle thingy on the bottom right of the torso, the other Nazgul is just gray. Are they even supposed to be silver? Edited June 27, 2012 by SheepEater

No no, obviously they would design the hair piece for the msot important characther: Legolas. Also, Haldir and Legolas got the same hair style, Haldir has the hair over shoulder aswell.

Are they even supposed to be silver? Both of mine are silver, so I would say yes. As for Aragorn, I had a similar problem with Legolas, but it was nothing major.
CMP Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Does anyone notice Eomer's cape doesn't seem to be the same new soft fabric that's in the other capes? Rather odd, to me.
K-Nut Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Does anyone notice Eomer's cape doesn't seem to be the same new soft fabric that's in the other capes? Rather odd, to me. I'm picking up that set today or tomorrow, so I'll check it. My Boromir's cape isn't the soft fabric either, but all the Hobbit capes and Gandalf's cape are the new softer material.

My Boromir's cape isn't the soft fabric either, but all the Hobbit capes and Gandalf's cape are the new softer material. I just checked, my dark brown cape isn't soft either, but all the others are. (Except for Eomer's.) It's strange, these are the first dark brown capes ever (I believe), so they aren't part of leftover batches, like the dark green might be.
Bilbo Baggins Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Has anyone seen the new video for LOTR that LEGO made? It is called "Chapter 1: The Tale Begins", you can check it out here: http://thelordoftherings.lego.com/en-us/Videos/Default.aspx

Artifex Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Is there going to be a second wave of LotR sets in 2012? The Hobbit is coming out on December, so I guess there's something yet to be seen, but it would be good to have some confirmation...

Never put the ring on, it turns the wraiths into clowns Thanks for the heads up

I'm guessing either towards the end of December when the movie comes out or January.
Artanis I Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 So glad Peter Jackson and not TLG was responsible for the LOTR movies, at least his version reasonably resembled Tolkien's books... I just noticed the designer video for the minifigs. I really struggled at times to understand him, subtitles would've been good... Interesting to see all the possible combinations for the Uruk Hai though! 3x2x2x3x2=72 just by varying the headpiece, faces, armour, shields & weapons that come with the sets. That's not including the parts from Lurtz & the berserker!
Artanis I Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 What do people think of this? Any good? Or not very orcish?
CMP Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Looks like a Gammorrean, to be honest. It's missing the eyes that most orcs seems to share. If it had those, it'd look a lot better.
Philip Robin Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 What do people think of this? Any good? Or not very orcish? It's pretty good! A very seamless design, but the eyes seem a bit too... I don't know, beady.
Lynx Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) A new designer video (at least, I haven't seen it posted) about the minifigures! http://thelordoftherings.lego.com/en-us/Videos/Designer%20Video%20-%20Minifigs%20.aspx Edit: I really want the Moria Orc and Uruk army that are shown. :) Edited June 28, 2012 by Lynx
The_Chosen_1 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I'm still drooling over that designer video... Must....build...armies!!
Legonardo Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Haha, bringing the uruk design upside down Really want armies now!
Cammo Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 It seems that Lego is putting a lot of funds in this theme. I really think they are hoping for something big here and they are really on the good way for achieving it. Look at the gorgeous website, extra movies, quality of the set designs and a videogame. Thumbs up ! I really can't wait to pick up the fellowship.
