sologuy369 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) Here is some news. LEGO The Lord of the Rings and LEGO The Hobbit - Thursday, July 12Epic characters and scenes take LEGO form in the newly released LEGO THE LORD OF THE RINGS collection, based on the popular THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Additionally, to coincide with the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in December, LEGO Systems will introduce a collection of LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY building sets in December 2012. The imaginations of fans attending the show will journey to Middle-earth when they catch a sneak peek of the first LEGO The Hobbit set in the upcoming collection, and a preview of short videos for LEGO THE LORD OF THE RINGS that are scheduled to air on Cartoon Network. The excitement continues with a hands-on Hobbit-themed scavenger hunt to build Bilbo Baggins in LEGO minifigure form. Attendees may pick up the first piece of Bilbo along with a special Middle-earth map at the LEGO booth, which will lead them on a show floor journey to collect the missing pieces to complete the Bilbo minifigure. The reverse side of the map includes instructions for a LEGO THE LORD OF THE RINGS contest that challenges fans to build any scene from THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy for a chance to win a trip to LEGOLAND California along with a Warner Bros. studio tour. For those not attending the show, instructions can be found at thelordoftherings.lego.com. LEGO Systems will also host a raffle to award one lucky winner a custom 5-inch model of Bilbo made completely out of LEGO bricks. Edited July 11, 2012 by sologuy369
deskp Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Sounds like they will only show off one set, hopefully more minifigures than just from that set tho, cause I guess we already have seen them... Either way, it's cool that they dedicate days to the diferent themes.
Falconer Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 a big battle set would be better seller than a big peaceful hobbit hole. Based on what? MMV obviously does quite well.
Spider-Man Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 That's a great pic deskp! It seems like these figs are in their final form which sucks for Bombur He has the weirdest/highest belly I have ever seen!
Haltiamieli Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 It seems like these figs are in their final form which sucks for Bombur He has the weirdest/highest belly I have ever seen! I'm not sure if we are getting the complete picture, so to say, from this picture. The lighting makes it seem like the chest part circled by the braid bulges out the most and is rather even from the neck to the belly, but I think a picture from the profile could reveal at least slightly more natural shape.
Spider-Man Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I sure hope so! Because from looking at this picture the one big question I get is, where would his bellybutton be
Pate-keetongu Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Based on what? MMV obviously does quite well. That's good point, but MMV was exclusive that was not even sold in every country. 130-180€ Helm's Deep -sized flagship for very popular lizenced theme is completely different thing. For example, SW have never had a big peaceful set (not counting the statues etc). Sure, AFOLs would drool over gigantic Bag End, but I belive that the "target audience" of 6-12-year-old kids would take a big functional set of barrel escape and elven king's dungeons or some other action scene (Like Helm's Deep or Moria). Of course, this is just a speculating. Time will tell.

I think it looks extremely good ! Good job Lego!
Spider-Man Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I think with a side view it will be easier to tell exactly what it looks like, I still stand by the part in his beard looks strange.

I think the double chin mold/print works. Also keep in mind the size of real in hand minifigures. Looking forward to more images of it though.
Falconer Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 His belly covers his whole torso. IMO, it’s Photoshopped, so it’s a little hard to tell how it will really look.

It's not photoshopped, and people alreay knew it covered his whole torso. The chin print would be better if it was photoshopped. Edited July 11, 2012 by deskp
Bilbo Baggins Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I believe that the set to be announced at the Comic-Con will be Bag End, I also believe we won't get to see more minifigures.
Deathleech Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) That's good point, but MMV was exclusive that was not even sold in every country. 130-180€ Helm's Deep -sized flagship for very popular lizenced theme is completely different thing. Of course, this is just a speculating. Time will tell. I gotta agree with pig here. When I was a kid I ALWAYS looked forward to the big action sequences in cartoons and movies. Those were what I wanted to replicate with my toys, not the more serene, peaceful parts. While the less action packed scenes are nice and can be super appealing to AFOLs, they just don't offer the same kind of appeal to most kids. If Lego only has one spot per wave for a big 130 dollar set, what do you think they are going to use it for? Look at the first wave if you are confused. Of the 7 sets released, only 2 were not conflicts and one was a 13 dollar set, the least expensive of the wave (and The Orc Forge was more of an army builder in my eyes anyways). Plus keep in mind MMV had a ton going for it. It was an exclusive, it had a lot of cool parts, and of course it was a phenomenal deal (6 cents per piece with 2 cows, a horse, and 8 minifigs?!?). And while it didn't have any bad guys or conflict in it, it did include 2 soldier figures so you could easily pretend some of the towns folk were bandits or something, or get a small set with an opposing faction and have them battle. Bilbo Baggins Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 How do you believe the Cartoon Network LOTR LEGO animations will be like?
Flobnomdob Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Seems as if we'll be seeing a few more details very soon! Do people in the Comic Con get to keep their Bilbos? I want one, now! Also, people, remember Bombur's headpeice/beard/fatsuit has to stick out enough for the rounded front of the head to stick out forwards and backwards, so he will hvae to bulge all the way down his torso.
MrBaggins Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 We will already see the (Bagend) set tommorrow, right? Cant wait to see it !!!!!
Faefrost Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 That's good point, but MMV was exclusive that was not even sold in every country. 130-180€ Helm's Deep -sized flagship for very popular lizenced theme is completely different thing. Of course, this is just a speculating. Time will tell. I think the LotR sets target a little older demographic then Lego's normal 6-12. More on the upper end of that and above. But even with that, action sequences do not necessarily mean violent sequences. Don't forget the whole "gently gently with the plates" sequence. Depending on how that is filmed it may be a stand out set piece. Besides remember to think of the LotR and Hobbit sets as less a brand new line, and more as slipping into that whole left by Harry Potter demographic wise. And some of the more stand out sets there weren't "action" or "violence" based. Heck the Burrow is considered one of the best.
General Magma Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Well, I hope Bag End is not all that we would get to see... It would be nice to see the set itself, yes, but I'd prefer to see most of the figures, and we've already seen those from the Bag End set. Although, nobody confirmed anything about what *exactly* we'll get to see, right? So there should still be a chance for us to see the rest... I hope...
SheepEater Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 - Elves of the Woodland - Galadriel - Elrond - Legolas - Galion - Tauriel Also hoping for a few trolls though :) Don't forget the elf king, Thranduil (Legolas' dad) And yes, I want the 3 trolls too.

Ceroknight Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 He looks brilliant! Not too detailed but also not too simple, the way I like my minifigs
TheDarkness Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 He looks awesome  Verry happy with that!
Falconer Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Hmm… My wife and sister are in San Diego. Maybe I can get them to go get me one! Anyone else thinking of swapping his hair with Pippin’s?
