just2good Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I also sense a tiled back wall, although I do fear they are stickers as opposed to the lovely prints like Uruk-hai army gave us. And we thought the Mines of Moria was tedious when it came to stickers...
Legonardo Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 And we thought the Mines of Moria was tedious when it came to stickers... oh well, at least the door is printed (yes it is green, its just that light brick
purpleparadox Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Awesome! So this is what we've all been waiting for. I'd say it met expectations pretty well. The minifigs are still great. I love the windows and I think TLG nailed Hobbit architecture as well as they can in a set. The garden, gate, bench, and chimney all look good too. I'm most likely gonna buy it...just depends on a few more factors. I really hope it's got a closed back rather than open. I'm fine with hinges or a lift-off roof (which seems more unlikely, looking at the set), but I won't be happy with an open back. The only other thing it needs for my buy is to fit in my budget. Interior I can redo myself if it's not quite satisfactory. I'm thinking it'll be good though, with what I can see through the door. I'm excited for the rest of the wave now!
SonofTheShire Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I think Bombur should have a stud on his head...
Algernon Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Bag-End is outstanding!! :oh: I'm seriously blown away at how great it looks! So many awesome figs, so much rich detail, and so many great pieces! I've kind of been waiting for a must-have LotR set in my price range, and it looks like it's finally arrived! Absolutely stunning! A great way to get all of those dwarves, too! LEGO is really knocking it out of the park this year. Do we have a price yet?
SheepEater Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) http://www.theonering.net has an even higher resolution pic - you can actually read "the desolation of Smaug" on Thror's map! They claimed they got their pic straight from Lego. According to them, the set will be called "An Unexpected Gathering" As for what I think:   As much as I love the LOTR wave we've got ( got the whole of it), this beautiful home of Bilbo just made me realize how DARK and gray and color-less those 7 LOTR sets were. ZO6 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 That looks so nice! The set turned out to be pretty much just as I imagined (which in this case I'm extremely happy about!). Bag End is a very attractive model - nice shape, lots of details, good colours, and great parts. It's bound to look fantastic on display. Seems as though it should have a nice little interior to it - which will add to the play value. I can't wait to see more views of the set to see what all is hidden inside. Nice selection of minifigues too.

Graysmith Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Love the use of turntable bottoms to create the pattern in the large window.

Falconer Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Direct link They couldn’t call it “An Unexpected Party”??
Legonardo Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I know it's probably a silly question but is this the first set with the 3 stud long pole from CMF? (the one that holds the lamp)
Fives Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I know it's probably a silly question but is this the first set with the 3 stud long pole from CMF? (the one that holds the lamp) They were used for the handles of Gimli's short axes in the Moria and Helm's Deep sets.
CM4Sci Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Please move this to the LOTR discussion thread... -Sci
Deathleech Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 An amazing looking set! I love all the green used and definitely like that the top looks like it comes off for easy access to the middle. I do wish the set was a little more oval or circular shaped rather than rectangular, but I am sure that would be hard to do with blocky Lego bricks and a set price point. Speaking of which, I really REALLY hope this set is around 60 bucks, and not the $80 being reported by that one site that had all the Hobbit sets listed. At $60 it would be a good deal, at 80 dollars it would start to be over priced imo. Really that would be the only thing that could hurt this amazing looking set in my eyes. Now, if only we got to see more.. (not really expecting to as it would prolly give away some key moments from the upcoming film that they want to keep secret a little while longer)
Cammo Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 The set looks fantastic. Is this the only set that will be shown at the convention?
SheepEater Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Really? Bag End seems like a more likely name. Don't ask me. If it was up to me, only two names would fit the set: the name of the actual place (Bag End) or the name of the chapter the scene is from (An Unexpected PARTY)
Haltiamieli Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 The set looks fantastic. Is this the only set that will be shown at the convention? As far as we know, yes it is. I hope we will soon get pictures of its insides from the con! Dwalin seems to be compensating for something with that hammer of his...
Parrothead Rasmus Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 These play sets are amazing! It's be nice if themes, like Star Wars, strayed away from doing all those ships. I will need this set!
Aanchir Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Don't ask me. If it was up to me, only two names would fit the set: the name of the actual place (Bag End) or the name of the chapter the scene is from (An Unexpected PARTY) "An Unexpected Party" is probably not used because "party", for kids, would bring to mind balloons and birthday cake. It's the sort of thing that an older (preteen or early teen) kid might think of as girly or babyish to have a toy of. "Gathering" gives a better sense of what's going on without sounding too lighthearted and silly to kids.

Dwalin seems to be compensating for something with that hammer of his... Ok. Thanks for clearing things up. I guess I will not buy all of the LOTR sets now. I can already scrap Gandalf Arrives because he comes in the Shire set. Already saves me 16 EUR . Only 'Mines of Moria' and 'Shelob Attacks' for me Off-topic: Can't wait for the Batman minifigures tomorrow.
Brickity Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) Oh wow! This is my favorite set from the line, I'm definitely going to buy it! The inside seems fun and well detailed. Edited July 12, 2012 by Otherworld

That is the scene that this set is portraying. And the first Chapter was widely republished as a stand alone short story under that name.
SheepEater Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) Oh wow! This is my favorite set from the line This is the ONLY set from the line we have seen so far Just kidding. I take it we can consider Lotr/Hobbit into one line. I wonder how the categories on BrickLink will be divided. "An Unexpected Party" is probably not used because "party", for kids, would bring to mind balloons and birthday cake. It's the sort of thing that an older (preteen or early teen) kid might think of as girly or babyish to have a toy of. "Gathering" gives a better sense of what's going on without sounding too lighthearted and silly to kids. Well, my nephew is 11 year old, loves Legos, HAS read "The Hobbit", and will probably be slightly disappointed at the title of the set same as I am. Edited July 12, 2012 by SheepEater
