General Magma Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I would prefer to see the real minifigures first so we don't have to speculate whats a new mold and wahts just made for the cg poster I don't know why that's still even necessary to think after the release of the LOTR sets. Yes, Legolas didn't end up having a quiver as the actual figure but that wasn't a new mold - the things we had seen back then made it as real pieces. The One Ring, hair molds, etc... even when we didn't get Anduril. Yet. I reckon that, if they will do it the way they did it with the LOTR figures, we'll get to see the dwarves in batches. For example, we could have sets of 3 like this each time they show us a new poster - Bifur, Bofur and Bombur, Ori, Dori and Nori, etc., and Thorin Oakenshield on a separate poster... and if not, they could always go with an entire group shot of all dwarves in the end.
Bilbo Baggins Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I guess then it is confirmed that TLG is giving them separate websites, I wasn't expecting this.
SheepEater Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Well, it has a link to the LOTR site, so there's that.
deskp Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 No matter what had happened it was always going to have it's own url and skin. The hobbit isn't reliant on LOTR but obviously lego is gonna cross-promote the themes but it isn't actualy the same theme. Dependig on success one theme could get canceled and not the other... technicaly.

But, I could see LOTR sets going on hiatus forthe release of The Hobbit sets, and same for the reverse situation. I'm glad The Hobbit is getting its own site. It won't then remove attention from LOTR. It's like how the Superheroes theme gets a Marvel site and a DC site.

There will be no more lotr sets while the hobbit sets will continue. ergo lotr sets would get canceled. Obviously lego isnt gonna saturate the market with releaseing new sets for both themes at once, not in any great amount anyways.

There will be no more lotr sets while the hobbit sets will continue. ergo lotr sets would get canceled. While technically true, I just don't see that happening. I mean the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit go hand in hand and it's hard to imagine one without the other. Most people who are fans are Tolkien fans, not strictly Hobbit or LotR. If one line does better than the other I would bet it's because that line simply didn't have as good sets based off it in which case Lego needs to fix their error and improve the quality. Otherwise there is really no reason one line should do any better than the other. For this reason I don't ever think we will see one line cancelled while the other goes strong. Obviously lego isnt gonna saturate the market with releaseing new sets for both themes at once, not in any great amount anyways. I doubt they will do two full waves at once, one based off the Hobbit and one off LotR. I COULD see them mixing sets in a single wave though, like they did for the Superheroes line. For instance maybe in December we will get 4 or 5 Hobbit-inspired sets, then 1-2 LotR ones.

With weapons, battles, etc LEGO: Teaching your kids to break open houses to steal memory cards since 2012. Become a true burglar! Well, I was expecting something related to the movies rather than a memory card game, but oh well, never planned to buy this one anyways. Maybe when it's on sale to complete the collection. All well
CorneliusMurdock Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 The Hobbit Board game should be discussed in the Board Game discussion thread in the Special Themes Forum. Don't make me say it again. Thank you.
SheepEater Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 (edited) I saw the Frodo polybag at one of my local Toys R Us yesterday. Although BrickSet names it "Frodo with cooking corner", no title appeared on the front of the bag. If they also had the Uruk-Hai polybag, I would have bought both. I asked an employee if they'd have it too but he didn't know. Shame. So I didn't buy it at all. Strange how TRU has it and Lego's official site doesn't. Edited July 21, 2012 by SheepEater

The_Chosen_1 Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 It's a relief to me that the Frodo polybag is a TRU exclusive and not the Uruk-hai. I would definitely think twice about buying multiple Uruks if I had to fork over the additional TRU tax.
deskp Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 (edited) Click for bigger image. However obscure this is our first look at the general lego designs for Fili & Kili. So far so good. Dwalin looks much better in a green cape compared to olive green. (boxart) This might be me being a little paranoid or something, but it looks like they are using the princess hair for Fili. It wouldnt be a terrible fit, but I'd so much prefer a new mold or perhaps using Thorins hair. Edited July 21, 2012 by deskp

ld27 Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Managed to pick up Mines of Moria, Weathertop and Gandalf arrives at Argos UK this morning :) I'v also ordered Helms deep and Uruk Hai from Lego using up some of my VIP points :)
legolandia Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 So far I have managed to resist getting into collecting the LotR series since keeping up with Star Wars is more than enough. But after seeing Bag's End set my resistance has crumbled. I have to have the Bag's End set and one of each of those other lovely characters from the other sets
Bilbo Baggins Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 I really hope TLG decides to publish promo images like the ones they did for LOTR based in the posters
Missing Brick Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Heads up to all UK LOTR buyers - Toys R Us have a 20% off coupon deal which ends today (Sunday 22nd ). I just picked up the complete range of sets from there and saved over £50 compared to Argos or Lego Store RRPs. Best deal around at the moment. Details on toysnbricks.com
SheepEater Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I think Lego did an incredible job with the alternate face of the Hobbits. We already saw Frodo's poisoned face works well in as many as 3 scenes. Frodo does get stabbed a lot. And since he has 2 minifigs, we have as many as 4 faces to choose from. Sam's clenched teeth works well when he fights Shelob, but as The_Chosen_1 demonstrated his his cute little MOC, works perfectly in his drowning scene. Pippin's panicked face is perfect for all the time he gets himself in trouble. Aside from the well scene in Moria, I totally see his panicked face when he uses Saruman's Palantir, or when the orc Grishnakh threatens to eat them. Now for Merry, this gets more interesting. His second face is similar to Eomer's and show the valiant Hobbit warrior within him. Anyone else finds this face totally suited for the scene when he stabs the Witch King of Angmar in RoTK?
Fives Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Yeah, they'll most likely recycle that Merry face for that set. Also, I find that angry face works well if you want to show him biting a piece of food.
