Bilbo Baggins Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I still wonder why Gandalf the White was picked for the LOTR one, though... Yeah, I'm pretty sure we are getting a Gandalf the White in some set eventaually. TLG really missed the opportunity of making an amzing minifig and collectible.
legolandia Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I doubt they'll do another Bag End set (maybe, though!), and I'm not sure if they would base a Rivendell set on the 'Department to the West', so if they don't, he could always become an exclusive figure with a "LEGO: The Hobbit" video game. I still wonder why Gandalf the White was picked for the LOTR one, though... I would love to see Lego make your avatar picture into a set. It would be a very nice and iconic sculpture/set.

Same here, I hope it's the next thing they do for a LOTR wave. Would be great to see the Witch-king of Angmar in minifigure form. Yeah, I'm pretty sure we are getting a Gandalf the White in some set eventaually. TLG really missed the opportunity of making an amzing minifig and collectible. Hmm, I doubt that... people would end up buying the video game at MSRP especially to have the figure, rather than waiting for a lower price, I can't see them suddenly throwing that figure (or a slightly different variant of it) into another set while having it out as a pre-order figure. Still, nothing has been confirmed yet so it might as well end up being something else.

Well the game is out in october and presumably the next lotr wave is next summer, so this theory doesent hold up. Besides Gandalf the white doesent really have any set worthy action goin. Except for som generic minas tirith stuff.
RaincloudDustbin Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 If you think about it, TLG has to put a small set (Gandalf Arrives for example) and a medium sized set (Shelob) in every wave so I would be suprised if there wasn't a set with Gandalf and Pippin on the way to Minas Tirith.

I wouldn't expect a set like that at all. And Pippin would be supposed to be mounted on the horse along with Gandalf, that's not gonna work for a set AND the only thing to it would be a horse and some scenery. I would expect the next LOTR wave's small set to perhaps be Mount Doom or related to Minas Tirith. (The White Tree) The 2 smaller 'medium' sets might end up being the attack of the Witch-king and a wall battlepack for Minas Tirith if the smallest set is Mount Doom.
Flobnomdob Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 I'd hope if they ever made a DK book, it'd have a 'celebration' feel, and so either come with a coronation Aragorn or and old Bilbo figure. (Perhaps one for the Character Encyclopedia and the other for the Visual Dictionary? ) But, I doubt they will make any books soon as the LOTR theme does not have any 'history' for TLG yet, unlike HP, SW or Batman.
Bilbo Baggins Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 A visual encyclopedia for LEGO LOTR wiuld be awesome, in case it was announced I would expect the minifigure to be Coronation Aragorn or a variant of Frodo.

Yesyesyes I too would LOVE to see that. With details on each figure and interviews with the designres.
SheepEater Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 I think the most likely figures to become weirball exclusives/giveways etc are: - Coronation Aragorn (we're unlikely to get a Coronation scene) - Old Bilbo (we're very unlikely to get a Bilbo's Birthday Party set now) - Sauron large figure (he only appears in a flashback) Arwen is excluded because she'll probably be included if any kind of Rivendell set gets made Galadriel, same; if she isn't in any LOTR set then she will appear in a Hobbit set.

And they don't make molds for exlusive figures. The chanses of him being in whatever set that Elrond is in is also quite high if its a real set.

A small set with the white tree, and a couple of fountain gaurds would be an awesome set, and great army builder for Gondor.

Darth Caedus Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 there isn't an army of fountain guards tho, theres only ever 4 at the same time. They have large groups of them in Battle for Middle Earth and it's a glorious sight. The perfect Gondor Army Builder pack would have a Gondorian Warrior, Gondorian Archer, Gondorian Knight (with non-evil-eye black NewHorse) and a Guard of the Fountain Court, with a small trebuchet.
Bilbo Baggins Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I finally saw LOTR sets in Mexico, I'll probably go tomorrow to buy one.
Lynx Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 What is anybody's take on Bilbo's hair colour? On the official "Unexpected Gathering" photo, it appears brownish while the Comic Con exclusive appears to have the same colour as Samwise.

I've just checked both set and figs photos and it's Sam's colour for sure.
The_Chosen_1 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) A new video has been posted on the LEGO LotR page, entitled "Two Minute: Quest of the Fellowship". It's basically a recap of the four previous videos, but it's worth sticking around to the end. Edited July 30, 2012 by The_Chosen_1
General Magma Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 A new video has been posted on the LEGO LotR page, entitled "Two Minute: Quest of the Fellowship". It's basically a recap of the four previous videos, but it's worth sticking around to the end. This was posted days ago, I believe. Unless they changed something about it... Anyways, some news here: The Hobbit will become a trilogy! As for what this means for the LEGO license... well, I guess it seemed obvious but it will have higher chances of lasting even longer now.
Combee Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 From a film perspective I am disappointed ... but from a Lego perspective I'm super excited at the possibility of even more sets!
Haltiamieli Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) So, the probable length of the licence just got another year. That's a lot more sets! (when it comes to the films themselves, I'm quite cynic about this turn, but who knows, maybe just maybe it does work even artistically and not just financially) Edited July 30, 2012 by Haltiamieli
The_Chosen_1 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 From a film perspective I am disappointed ... I agree, to a certain extent. To the general public it will make no sense that a 320-page novel is being adapted into three films. Not only that, but to me personally it will feel strange to have a Hobbit "trilogy". It sort of lessens the gravitas of The Lord of the Rings, in a way... The filmmakers make a good point, though, about there being more of Tolkien's material to go off of that takes place during The Hobbit time frame. Even then, I expect to see a lot more Peter Jackson content than Tolkien in these films. Only time will tell.
