General Magma Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I agree, to a certain extent. To the general public it will make no sense that a 320-page novel is being adapted into three films. Not only that, but to me personally it will feel strange to have a Hobbit "trilogy". It sort of lessens the gravitas of The Lord of the Rings, in a way... 320-page novel + 250 pages of Appendices at least, that is.
Mischa07 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I saw the LotR sets at Toys XL and Bart Smit in The Netherlands today. Just thought the Dutch LEGO fans might want to know that they're finally out here.

Just thought the Dutch LEGO fans might want to know that they're finally out here. I got 6 out of 7 sets at the beginning of July, I'm pretty sure they've been out for quite a bit longer..? Anyways, gotta check out the prices, but I'm not expecting them to be better than in the store I got my sets from.
Bilbo Baggins Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I hope this doesn't means that each movie will be 1 1/2 hours.
Combee Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I hope this doesn't means that each movie will be 1 1/2 hours. Judging by Peter Jackson's typical movies, it doesn't seem like he can make a movie that is shorter than 3 hours (not that I'm complaining): more content for Lego sets!
RaincloudDustbin Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I think the 3rd Movie is in between the Hobbit and the LOTR because that's what part 2 of the Hobbit was originally
deskp Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) The fact that it was the creative team who wanted a 3rd movie and not the money people is what makes this great news! More lego sets H**l yeah! (depending on the success obv) I think the 3rd Movie is in between the Hobbit and the LOTR because that's what part 2 of the Hobbit was originally No no, it will be more dwarves, bilbo etc. Theonering.net says it wont be a bridge film Also a SUMMER 2014 release Edited July 30, 2012 by deskp
Mr Spielbrick Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 (...) to me personally it will feel strange to have a Hobbit "trilogy". It sort of lessens the gravitas of The Lord of the Rings, in a way... What makes you say that? As I understand it, PJ and co. want to emphasize characters and events leading up to what happens in The Lord of the Rings. So if anything, the extra film will flesh out that bigger story. I suppose the biggest change is that this gives Bilbo more screen time, and adding his time in the original trilogy would make him (seem?) more the main character than Frodo. I got 6 out of 7 sets at the beginning of July, I'm pretty sure they've been out for quite a bit longer..? (...) Not in the Netherlands, though. For some reason, we're severly behind here. Neither the Lord of the Rings sets nor the Monster Fighters line has been available here yet, not even through LEGO's own webshop. Why? Yeah, beats me too.

Same goes for Belgium, haven't seen anything here yet I do hope they are released soon (hopefully the first week of august)
djmangunz Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 From PJ's announcement: We know how much of the story of Bilbo Baggins, the Wizard Gandalf, the Dwarves of Erebor, the rise of the Necromancer, and the Battle of Dol Guldur will remain untold if we do not take this chance. Boys and girls, the words "Battle of Dol Guldur" equals Lego magic. That is the type of set we were all hoping for from the Hobbit line. Just imagine Galadriel and Elrond (if they change it a bit from the appendices) leading elven warriors into battle against the fortress of Dol Guldur. (cue Homer Simpson drooling sound.) That, my friends, is a set.

My local store has had Monster Fighters since late May and all LOTR sets except for Weathertop since July 6th, when I got them.

That, my friends, is a set. That isn't a set. That, is a set! A group of Tolkien Elven warriors? Heaven in Lego. Well, let's hope! Meanwhile, I'm thrilled about the announcement of a third The Hobbit movie. Pretty much guarantees us at least a few more Lego sets! Not to mention, more Hobbit-cinema-goodness. My day is made.
djmangunz Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 That isn't a set. That, is a set! A group of Tolkien Elven warriors? Heaven in Lego. Well, let's hope! amen, brother.
Cammo Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) Still no sign of the sets here in Belgium. I went to Dreamland, Fun and Bart Smit but no luck. Couldn't be long though because the official release date in the BeNeLux is the 1st of August and I read this on a Dutch Lego Fansite: New LOTR-sets available at Bart Smit in 'Deventer'(NL), 'Purmerend' (NL) and 'Leiden'(NL). (Orc Forge doesn't seem to be available in the BeNeLux, yet.) So the LOTR-sets are already popping up there. BTW, is it ok to post these kinds of messages or is there a new thread about this. I thought there was one a week or 2 ago but it suddenly disappeared. Edited July 30, 2012 by Cammo
Bilbo Baggins Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I'm really surprised to see that the sets haven't been released in some parts of Europe and here in Mexico the sets have. We're usually the last to get sets.
SirBlake Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 The fact that it was the creative team who wanted a 3rd movie and not the money people is what makes this great news! More lego sets H**l yeah! Agreed. This feels more like artists enjoying their craft than a money-grab by the studio. As far as I'm concerned, a third film = 50% more awesomeness.
djmangunz Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 The rumor is that The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey's end point, and some of the scenes they were going to include, have changed. That being said, I wonder if any of the upcoming Lego sets from the Hobbit line will need to be changed (cough, Barrels out of Bond, cough) The question is, how hard it is to design and produce a new Lego set, to replace one which had been planned for release,in time for December 1st?
just2good Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I think they will delay the Barrel set... Darn. I was looking forward to that one. I'm gonna shoot TLG at tweet to see if the will delay anything. Hopefully they have the license by the third film. The original press release didn't say anything about it.

We're usually the last to get sets. I know right? The price on the other hand... Especially in Liverpool, they always have an amazing stock of them but the prices are scary. I can't wait to see at least one more set. If the sets are going to be released in December, then I think we should expect pictures around the end of August? Edited July 31, 2012 by Otherworld
Elander Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Hi, I think it is a little crazy what possibilities offers LotR/Hobbit to LEGO. Peter Jackson: ... We know creatively how compelling and engaging the story can be and—lastly, and most importantly—we know how much of the tale of Bilbo Baggins, the Dwarves of Erebor, the rise of the Necromancer, and the Battle of Dol Guldur would remain untold if we did not fully realize this complex and wonderful adventure. I’m delighted that New Line, MGM and Warner Bros. are equally enthusiastic about bringing fans this expansive tale across three films. ... Hello? The Battle of Dol Guldur! Oh-man, where are the LEGO elves? The armies of Lothlorien (Battle of Dol-Guldur), Mirkwood (Battle of the Five Armies) and Lindon (Battle of Dagorlard) Do you have got any news about this Elrond minifigure: LEGO could for that battle releases sets like these: Number 1: "Last Alliance Battle Pack" including Gondor soldiers and Noldor elves Number 2: "Isildur's Bane" including Sauron, Elrond, Isildur, Gil-galad, Elendil Damn, this theme can become really amazing!

Wolvarie Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 First two things I thought when I read PJ post on Facebook was 1. Oh Yeah! More Middle Earth! 2. Oh Yeah! More Lego sets!
Multiverse Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 The LotR sets are now available in Denmark through S@H and at Bilka.dk! I haven't checked, but I would presume this means they can also be found at the actual Bilka stores, as well as the Lego Brand Stores in Copenhagen and Billund. =)
Cammo Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) The LOTR-sets are available on the Belgian official Lego website's webshop. Very lofty prices though... With my Hot Toys Joker DX 11 and Batman DX 12, I think I might wait for the Belgian retail prices, sometimes they are a bit cheaper like with the PotC-sets. I went to some shops today... Still no sign of them here. (Also no Monster Fighters for those who are planning to buy them.) Belgian S@H prices: 9469 Gandalf™ Arrives 16,99 € 9470 Shelob™ Attacks 29,99 € 9471 Uruk-hai™ Army 39,99 € 9472 Attack on Weathertop™ 69,99 € 9473 The Mines of Moria™ 89,99 € 9474 The Battle of Helm's Deep™ 139,99 € 9476 The Orc Forge 49,99 € Edited July 31, 2012 by Cammo
