It is great to know the line is doing well, it is actually a relief. I just don't want to see the line get discontinued :cry_sad:

I hope 'Man of steel' doesent push away a wave of LOTR

I'm not worried about this. There are so many superhero movies coming out in the next couple years that Lego doesn't seem to be trying to bother tying in all their semiannual waves to each film. The Avengers was a big deal and was well timed for a wave of sets, but I don't think we will see the same rigid loyalty with Iron Man 3 (May 2013), Thor 2 (Nov 2013) Captain America (April 2014). Man of Steel is the only big DC production next year, true, but Avengers kept to a modest one-wave approach, and Man of Steel is several leagues below Avengers in hype and scale. So at worst, worry about losing a couple DC slots wasted on Man of Steel garbage (it's Zach Snyder, calling it now) when we could be harvesting some DC characters from its long and storied comic history. Additionally, the Hobbit films will most definitely be bigger than Man of Steel (both critically and financially, the only thing that compares to LOTR/Hobbit is The Dark Knight, and TDKR is getting a single set next year), so it would make no sense for Man of Steel to suddenly replace the Lord of the Rings license.

I hope you're right. Tho i think Zach snyder makes entertaining flashy movies so it should be a fun movie, the previous superman movies have been too serious and boring.

But the person from an austrailian lego store didnt mention anything about lotr for first half of 2013. Made me worried. I guess we'll see in february @ toy fair.

Lego's CEO speaking

Skip to 3:47 for LOTR specific :classic:

It is a relief to hear that, but in the other hand, is one of the most expected and awesomely designed theme, so it should be no surprise that is selling so well.

I would expect another wave of sets on summer 2013 for LOTR, been Gondor the next realm to cover.

Ps. I just opened my Uruk Hai Army set, and it is fantastic, such a great set that looks so well, its form and the minifigs are just wonderful, I will have to get some more of those. :sweet:

In my experience, Lego store employees are great people who love the hobby, but 90% of the time they are less up to date then the obsessed devotees like us, who are checking the news every hour of every day and poring over every theory and leak.

Sure but we dont know if there will be a summer lotr wave either. we assume and hope. educated guesses whatever.

I just don't wanna get dissapointed :cry_sad:

But they say it takes about 6 monts to create a wave so they have plenty of time, now that they have some proper sales numebrs for lotr having been for sale a few months

Yeah, the one I go to all the time knew nothing. I asked about the new Star Wars sets, she said August, they came out on S@H the next day.

Well, they probably already have the summer wave planned out if there is one. They always plan sets a year out.

This may have been discussed before and for that I apologize. I didn't see it in any searches. I am curious on educated guesses regarding the price of the Elrond exclusive figure. I want the game, but I don't need it right away. I may wait until next year when it is significantly reduced (like all the other LEGO games) and then buy the figure in the aftermarket. But I'm not sure of what to expect. I mean, the polybag Hulk is averaging $20-23 on Bricklink. And that may have had more exposure than what this Elrond figure will have. I can look up prices, but I didn't know if anyone had any expert opinions on the matter from what they've seen over the months/years of Lego figure sales.

I guess if you think about the game costing around $50 now with the free figure and I wait until next year the game price will drop to closer to $20, meaning I have about $30 leftover for the figure to break even. More than likely the figure will cost about that in terms of the Hulk comparison.

Thanks for any information anyone can give.

I can't wait for next summer's wave!

We-eeeeellll...the Elrond figure is pretty similar in terms of promotion-type to the Lex Luthor polybag. So, I'd say look up the price that it's going for right now - it should be pretty similar. :classic:

I hope he means its selling well. wich should mean more sets, yes?

I don't see how it could mean anything else. The CEO said "we are just launching The Lord of the Rings across the world and it is doing really really well". Add to that his big grin and it makes me think the sales can be nothing but amazing.

I completely agree. I don't see them canceling or holding off on a LotR/Hobbit wave to make room for some flavor of the month super hero film. Plus the hype for the Hobbit is ten fold that for the new Superman movie. It would be like Alien Conquest taking up Star Wars' spot.

D'oh! Slap on the head. I forgot all about that figure since I had no desire to acquire it. Makes sense. Thanks for the input. Looking it up on Bricklink shows to be about what I was expecting, $25-30. So I might as well get the game early and the figure guaranteed because I will end up spending about the same either way.

Thanks again.

If you buy the computer version, like someone else pointed out to me earlier, you only have to pay 30 for the game and you still get the minifig. That's pretty much the same price as what the Lex minifg is going for now, except you get the Elrond minifig AND the game.

Sooo.. We can forget about "fleeing from the spiders" and "barrell escape" in 2012. I hope we get some replacement sets otherwise the 13 dwarves won't get covered.

That's pure speculation, based upon other speculation. The set list itself hasn't even been officially confirmed yet. Let's just wait and see what happens.

As it is, I think we needn't fear missing out on any dwarves between this year and the next. TLC have released all the fellowship minifigures in one wave of LotR. From the only officially revealed Hobbit play set (so that is not counting the game), it looks as though they're going to give us all thirteen dwarves as well. Personally, I can wait a few (extra) months to complete the dwarf team.

I still think they'll be coming. With the sets most likely to start appearing in stores late October, what is LEGO gonna do, pull it from shelves? That would make them lose a fair amount of money... They'll have to then re-brand the boxes and such. The Barrel set is already an exclusive and the Spider set can be made in to a limited release this year and maybe a re-release next year.

Just because the film ends earlier doesn't mean you can assume LEGO will change its product lineup with such a short amount of time to go (assuming the rumored set list is accurate).

List is accurate. amazon.fr had those sets online for a few days for preorder before being taken down without notice. french naming of the sets below :

79000 La Grotte de Gollum - 105 pièces - 13.99 €

79001 Les Araignées de la Forêt de Mirkwood - 298 pièces - 31.49 €

79002 L'attaque des Ouargues - 400 pièces - 59.99 €

79003 La Rencontre à Cul-de-Sac - 652 pièces - 79.99 €

79010 La Bataille Contre le Roi des Gobelins - 841 pièces - 99.99 €

Only 79004 Barrel Escape never appeared online.

Exactly. I'm still amazed people don't believe that the list was real...

And the Barrel set didn't show up since it is a retail exclusive. Those show up later.

Yeah, I don't think they'll adjust the sets being released based on cuts to the movie - they need a full wave and there is just no time to develop and release new filler sets. They'll still be bought in droves :)

Although I do wonder what the filler sets could be, then. Remember that that ending still hasn't been confirmed fully, though, it's just hard to disprove.

I guess there isn't any chance of having any LOTR sets showing up to replace those other two... or is there?

Highly doubtful - the spiders and barrels are still highly memorable sequences from the book. I don't see how they could conjure up fully prepped LOTR filler sets with barely a couple months before preorders and launch, it doesn't seem like it's worth the extra work. Besides, Lego has often sold products that feature in unreleased movies - the ROTS wave came out a month before the actual movie. The specifics of the sets don't matter that much, it's Hobbit sets for a Hobbit movie, the tie-in rests generally. The LOTR sets are based on admittedly popular films that have been out of the public eye for almost a decade, and their release still got a buff from the general hype for Tolkien returning to theaters.

Other speculation, my hopeful estimates for pricing of the sets:

Riddles in the Dark - $12.99

Mirkwood Spiders - $29.99

Warg Attack - $39.99

Bag End - $59.99 (fact, at least if comic con tells true)

Goblin King - $89.99

However, I could definitely see a 10 dollar price bump on Warg Attack and the Goblin King, which is unfortunate as the Warg set at $40 rests at the tipping point of still functioning as a potential armybuilder, any more and it would probably become more efficient to bricklink it.

It's not like either of those scenes are secret or surprises or spoilers for the movies. There really is no reason for Lego to hold them back.
