Yeah you are right, those characters are actually not so important  (in the movies that is, in the books Imrahil and Beregrond play a more important role)

The Batman characters were DLC, and as you said, those characters weren't part of the story... but what other characters could you add in this case that aren't featured significantly in the movies?

Sauron himself only appeared in a couple of flashbacks, so they probably could have cut him out. I know he's an important character, but it's possible. The old-styled Robin was DLC in Lego Batman 2.

Added to that, I have no idea who Imrahil, Beregond and Theodred are, I'm pretty sure those were only in the extended editions. They seem like obscure characters which would fit well into the DLC category.

Perhaps there is a Pippin mission in minas tirith were hes not with Gandalf, Beregond would be a better choise than random gondorian as co-op partner. Imrahil could be co-op partner for Gandalf.

I believe sauron will feature too heavily to be cut out as dlc. He should be set up as the big baddie, and there might be a boss figth with him in the first level, at least he will be in the cutscene. the goal of the level should be getting to Sauron.

They have said they will have book characthers in the game so how much they feature in the movies should mean as much.

Potc game preorder charactehrs were just cheats, also you get an unlock code toegtehr with the elrond minifigure. And I seriously doubt he won't be playable.

First post updated with some of the newly spotted pics.

Cheers

Cool, tho I don't think the smeagol image should be there seeing as he's only in the video game.

Mumakil & fell beast .. my precioussss

Wouldn't be so difficult to make a fell beast isn't it? Take a dragon mold, make a different head and tadaaa!

And what about the Oliphant .. I can only hope the proportion of it would be bigger than the elephant from LEGO.

I'm disappointed. New Wargs?

So we're gonna have "LOTR Wargs" and "The Hobbit Wargs" as separated things after all?

That's a shame. I'm not saying it looks bad, but it's a continuity error as I feared it might've been destined to become.

Squint a little and you'll be fine, They propably cut the tails of Sauromans inbred wargs. these presumably are a little wilder. Theyre just like dogs, different breeds.

That said I hugely prefer previous wargs... proapbly cause is aw them first.

Here you can get some details off Legolas' new costume. Imagine it as aminifig and not a horribly abd kid's costume: LINK

Something that confuses me a bit, though, is that the first film was said to end with the Eagles.

However, that would mean that Mirkwood wouldn't be seen in the film, so let alone the Elves. Any chance this disproves that theory of it ending with the Eagles?

The new scroll ended there, but it's still a bit vague to me. There doesn't seem to be lots of material to cover 3+ hours of film if they're just doing the things up to the point of the arrival of the Great Eagles...

Nothing confirms anything either way IMO. But ending with the eagles seems to be more like 1/3 of the story. Also I think the movies are more like 2+hours in cinema.

For all we know these elves could be part of dol goldur things.

I actually like the new wargs. They still have the essence of the LOTR versions, but have more of the dog-like features that the others lack. I feel like a decent explanation for this difference in type of wargs could just be that the ones from LOTR were altered due to Saruman's genetic experiments, whereas these more wild wargs were never exposed to that.

I really can't wait to see Tauriel as a minifig, but I'm a little unsure about Legolas's new outfit. Unless this costume is just for the Battle of Five Armies, then I'll be fine with it. I really don't want to see Legolas wearing armour the whole time. On the plus side, this means that the Legolas fig will be different from the LOTR one, and perhaps his armour can be an indication of how the Mirkwood elven soldiers will look.

Well that outfit will be on Legolas in atleast in one of the first 2 movies. And we have seen a darker version of his old outfit aswell.

Personally I love the new wargs, they look like wolfs like the original Hobbit book not like the previus wargs from LOTR they looked like hyenas and I dont say they werent cool but I believe that the wolf version is better, just wait to see them in lego form,I expect lego wont disapoint, and the theory about were the first film ends I believe it ends when the dwarf company and bilbo with Gandalf get rescued but they eagles, since now there 3 films I bet jackson cut off few parts.

Maybe a stupid question, but who is this Tauriel?

(Yes, I've read the Hobbit 5 times and The lord of the Rings also, even the first half of the Silmarillion, But I can't remember her.)

Coming week is "Tolkien week" The new trailer will be released the 19th, I hope lego doesen't miss that week as an oppertunity to show us more dwarves or sets.

She does not exist in the book, she's Jackson's addition to include more girl power, romance etc. in the films.

Lego employees at my store said they really don't believe there will be another lotr wave. It is weird there is no Return of the king sets just like in POTC there were no At world end sets default_hmpfbad.gif

They don't really know anythign beyond mid summer 2013, do they?

It wouldn't suprise me if there were no more lotr sets. But I'd really like it.

we'll see how sales are during holiday.

That's a freakin' joke. LOTR is a much bigger franchise than POTC! Oh well, no disrespect here but I have had past experience of employees being wrong about a lot of things...

That is really surprising! I thought this would be a LEGO gold mine! At the very least I expected one more wave. There is so much more LEGO can still make that the only variable I can see is sales. If the sets aren't selling well then I guess LOTR could be only one wave :cry_sad:

You can say that again. My personal experience tells me that Lego store employees are often extremely nice people who aren't actually as interested in Lego as to keep themselves up-to-date with the upcoming sets or their availability. ;)
