Now that it is official here are the sets I know about:

9469 Gandalf Arrives

9470 Shelob Attacks

9471 Uruk-hai Army

9472 Attack on Weathertop

9473 The Mines of Moria

9474 The Battle of Helm's Deep

9476 The Orc Forge

Enjoy

Do you know the rough prices for any of these (GBP if you can, but if you can only get USD, that's fine I'll just convert it).

I hope these sets are better than the PotC sets... those were pretty underwhelming for me, and those set names strike some similar vibes. :sceptic:

How does Attack on Weathertop ,The Mines of Moria or The Battle of Helm's Deep sound underwhelming.

Since only one is likely going to be around $100? :sceptic: Weathertop is probably going to b e a $20 thing with some rocks and Nazgul, Moria's probably just going to be Balin's Tomb and the Balrog. Not that this is a bad thing - they sound great. I think Algernon is being realistic as to how TLG will approach them.

I meant to say: how would TLG expect to sell the sets?

Ah. Still, I was just joking around - I also seriously doubt they'll sell them individually. I'd think if TLG thought of doing that they'd try it with Star Wars first.

Brings up an interesting question, are LOTR fans even more geeky and protective of their beloved story than SW fans?! There will need to be a good dose of realism for them as there won#t likely be any UCS style Minas Tirith until this license has achieved a good few years of excellent sales.

derfel will you be doing a nice MOC of the village of Bree or even Meduseld?

It's funny you mention that, as I was watching The Fellowship Of the Ring last month, and when it got to the scene with the village of Bree I looked and thought 'that is so me'. So yes I can confirm I have already started on a large detailed version of the Village Of Bree, and it's great that I will be able to have official figs now! I've always wanted to build a LOTR moc but thought I wasn't good enough to do it justice. But I'm up for the challenge and it will be my greatest moc to date!

That news is fantastic. We gonna get LEGO Aragorn, LEGO Gimli and LEGOlas (I'm sorry for that pun) and LEGO Uruk-hai with little LEGO Uruk-hai swords!

Also, the inevitable LEGO Lord of the Rings game will be totally awesome.

Awesome news! Of course I though the films were awesome, and I still have to read all of the books (one day!). I'm looking forward to the Hobbit films (Martin Freeman is great). Looking at the current set design of the licensed theme I have high hopes for this theme. Summer 2012 can't come soon enough.

...and LEGO Uruk-hai with little LEGO Uruk-hai swords!

I'm more excited for those wicked shields than swords. :sweet:

The mini figures are going to be great. The orcs will look amazing, I'm sure. I wonder what the Witch King will look like, especially the head/helmet...

Oh wow! I really thought all this talk of LOTR in the past few months was just wishful thinking by us fans and that TLG would never, ever actually do this as a theme. Glad to see I was wrong! I am so freaking excited for this line! My girlfriend is going to kill me because I'm already obsessed/spend way too much money on the Star Wars line, and come this summer I'll be adding a second line to obsess over!

This is going to kill my wallet, but I don't care! Bring these sets on!

Since this line is obviously catered to the AFOLS. I hope that most of the sets will be big and detailed ones.

I wouldn't bet a penny on that. There will be ONE or TWO dedicated to AFOLS. Nothing more. AFOLS, alas, do a small minority of TLC's market.

Wow, it's nice to finally see some confirmation, although I have a feeling some of you should temper your expectations or you are in for a big disappointment when the first pictures leak out (hopefully soon).

I don't consider myself a big LotR fan, but I am still quite excited. The only negative is if this spells the end of Kingdoms, which I really enjoyed.

BTW is it just me or is the ring more of a bracelet?

why does next year look so expensive!!! *sigh* this theme sounds cool but i hope gollum gets a new mold he would look weird being a normal figure with stuby legs. he needs to look skinny and i don't think he would as a normal fig. with the collectable minifigures i hope they put some of the mane characters in but also i see this as a great way to for some secondary characters to make an appearence that lego may not want to include in the sets. i also hope in the collecable minifig packs we get some variations of some of the main minifigs. like for example a rarer one could be invisible frodo which is the frodo made from transparent parts. or perhaps boromir with arrows in his chest.

Neither one of those is possible.

not good enough to do it justice?! Without wishing to bow smoke up your a*se, Derfel, if anyone can do this it's you! how about a nive riendell afterwards or maybe hobbiton, looks such a nice place to live!

Well, I think his argument for a new molded Gollum is actually fairly likely.

I wonder how many new weapon molds we'll be getting. I'm sure at least Sting will get one, and with luck, it'll be cast in trans blue for Frodo, metallic silver for the other Hobbits. Narsil, anybody? :sweet:

Very happy to see this finally confirmed. To prepare myself I'll start re-watching the 3 LOTR movies soon

No doubt this line will have awesome figs and accessories.

I only hope the overall set designs quality (and price range) will be more like Prince of Persia, and not like most of the Pirates of the Caribbean sets.
