I apologize if this has been talked about before, but does it look like there's a new horse mold in one of the prelim pictures? It shows a horse on it's hind legs, kicking up the front legs. The front legs are right below the horse's head. I saw it on set # 9471 Uruk-hai Army. But it looks kinda like its animated so I wasn't sure. What do other people think of this?

It certainly looks like a new mold. I've read that the horse actually can move it's legs so it looks like this at one moment, or it can stand like a "normal" horse also, so it is functional either way. If that is the case, then having multiples of it probably wouldn't be a problem. If it is only in that position, then having multiples will be useless. Hopefully TLG thought that through.

Seeing the list of approximate prices and piece count, I am not surprised at all about the prices. Moria and Weathertop may have to wait at that price level, especially if people are expected to get Helm's Deep as well. And the army building set at $40 will be a steep army building set. I couldn't imagine being able to get more than one or two with the other sets being those prices. I am surprised at some of the piece counts though, just like others here. But I really don't want to spend that much on part of a castle though, so hopefully it will be bigger than the prelim picture showed. And hopefully the final pictures will blow everyone away.

1368 is huge. I thought the preliminary image for Helm's Deep was a bit deceptive and it was bigger than it first appeared, but I didn't expect that big. For a traditional retail set that's really big. To put it into perspective the biggest Hogwarts set is 1290. The largest Prince of Persia, Pharoah's Quest, Non-ship PoTC and Dino sets are all around 800. Only the Market Village and Joust sets are bigger in the whole Kindoms/Castle lines.

It's a whopper.

Assuming that's accurate of course.

I am sure that the Uruk-hai Army set will be around $20, just like Shelob Attacks.

They're the same size as the similar-looking sets from Star Wars, so it would be ridiculous to make them this expensive.

Gandalf Arrives will be about $10 as well.

The Mines of Moria should be around $80-85, with Weathertop at $40-50 and Helm's Deep at about $120-140.

I'm really looking forward to finally seeing what 'Orc Forge' looks like, unless this was a false rumour. (Hopefully not)

It's kind of strange that we haven't seen anything of that yet, but it might just pop up during ToyFair in February.

That sounds like alot of pieces for helms deep.

But we only see about half of the 2 rounded walls, nothing on the backside and there the whole rock part the castle is elevated on, if that isnt some new raised baseplate it propably uses alot of pieces.

Wow I hope those prices are not real. I was expecting slightly steeper prices than the kingdoms line as this is a licensed theme, but those seem too high.

Since I am hoping the prices are wrong, then it figures I should hope all of that information is wrong. However, I do hope the piece counts are right. They are also higher than I expected, but that is great news!

I am so curious about these sets now. The toy fairs seem so far away...

It's possible the Orc Forge is a retailer exclusive (I would say TRU), which I thought weren't usually in the dealer catalogues.

A Hungarian retailer already has the sets listed with some additional information, including piece counts, box sizes and prices (in HUF). I tried to make an estimate on the prices in USD based on the price of other sets in this shop (like PotC). I'm pretty sure they're not far off.

I'll just directly convert each price to USD according to current HUF/USD exchange rate, that might be useful, too. (And give my estimates for the US prices in brackets.) Everyone please take into account that the prices below seem to contain 27% VAT. Also even net prices of sets tend to be higher in Hungary than in the USA.

Gandalf Arrives

Price: 3 735 HUF = $15.5 (remember this is with 27% VAT and generally higher European prices, I'm quite sure this will be a $10 or so set in the US)

Shelob Attacks

Price: 6 930 HUF = $28.7 (probably ~ $20 in US)

Uruk Hai Army

Price: 10 425 HUF = $43.1 (~ $30 in my opinion)

Attack on Weathertop

Price: 15 825 HUF = $65.4 (can't be more than $50, maybe even less)

Mines of Moria

Price: 21 150 HUF = $87.5 (my guess is $60 - $65)

Battle of Helm's Deep

Price: 38 085 HUF = $157.5 (which means a net price of $124 for Hungary, I guess it won't be more than $120 in the US)

It doesn't seem that horrible after deducting that huge Hungarian VAT, now does it?

Thanks for the responses about the new horse. I really hope that it is a fully movable horse rather than just a set mold of a horse rearing. That one pose would not be very useful. I can't wait for more detailed pictures!

That makes a lot more sense and is more in line with POTC. I personally think the sets are awesome and well worth the steep price to get them.

It was noted elsewhere in the thread that if the rearing posed is fixed, the legs look they're in just the right position that it could also be used as a running horse. I think that's probably more likely than a fully articulated horse, especially if they're using it in combination with the existing horse piece.

Well, that depends on whether the horse has an adjustable head like previous versions. If it does, then the running idea would be quite plausible, and may be used in future sets. Although a fully articulated horse would be preferable, I would accept this rearing mold, as it has quite a few possibilities for MOCs.

That would be my guess, too. I doubt TLG would make a horse that can only be posed rearing since most horses don't spend very long rearing, and articulated legs would be unexpected on a piece that size. I think they decided that with all the horse riding action in LOTR they needed a running horse, and made it so it could rear as well. I like that it doesn't look too different from the existing horse except for its pose.

This piece is also telling me that there will be a set for Arwen's rescue of Frodo further down the road. It would be a crime to make running/rearing horses and not do that scene.

I'm afraid TLG has no problem with ridiculously overpriced sets, as seen in the Star Wars and PotC sets. I'm pretty sure Uruk-Hai Army will cost between 30-40 dollars and 37-40 euro, as it's clearly a bigger set than Shelob Attacks. 270 pieces is a lot too considering the set has 6 minifigs and a horse; anything less than 30 bucks would be a really good price and I'm not expecting those from TLG anymore

I don't think it's fake, the guy who posted about it had all the other sets (with numbers) right before the pics leaked. It's probably just the exclusive set of the wave.

The piece count of Helm's Deep is a nice surprise indeed. 1368 pieces is a fair deal for 140 bucks.

I hope not. We already got Frodo, the Ringwraiths and their steeds in the Weathertop set. Aside from Arwen what can the set really offer us? I rather get a battlepack for the same price instead and just toss Arwen in a Rivendell set.

To me it looks like the horse would be in some sort of rodeo bucking position if it would be attached to a baseplate from its fore leg. But hopefully I'm wrong, otherwise the mold will be quite a "one-trick pony".

I would not at all be surprised if the new horse is poseable. The new bear in the city sets is poseable, so why not a horse.

I totally agree with you, lets make a nice Rivendell set with all the "exclusive" elves like Arwen, Elrond, Galadriel and Celeborn. 4 elves to rule them all.

You'd also get more Nazgul. Weathertop is all well and good, but I doubt many people will get all nine ringwraiths by buying multiple of that set. But I agree that Arwen should appear in a rivendell set, should there be one. Elrond, Old Bilbo and Arwen should could all debut here.

I hope they save Galadriel and Celeborn for a Lorien set to be honest. Mirror of Galadriel could be a set along the same lines as Gandalf Arrives for a start, but I guess as long as they pop up somewhere, rivendell isn't an entirely silly place to do it :D

Good point. I think LEGO could easily do. The question is whether they will. I think I'm okay with either a static pose or a poseable horse.

The more elves the better! Especially a female elf so I can make my elven village.

Agreed!

But with Rivendell plus Lothlorien can you make a elven village with nice-looking trees. :sweet:

I hope they do a set on that scene with a white possible horse and some more ring wraiths. There were a total of 9 and only 2 are included with the whethertop set, which is expensive, so I do hope Lego comes out with the rest of the ring wraiths in a cheaper set. Also, the movie shows Arwen with a nice elven sword which would be a nice edition to the Lego armory.

Posted

I'm not arguing against more Ringwraiths, I just think a small set based on the chase scene alone is a little shallow. I mean what are we building here exactly? A tree made up of 8 pieces? Its a glorified battlepack and I think most would rather be army building orcs and uruk hai than Nazgul. I think its better to space them out in the larger sets.

Weathertop already has 2 Nazgul out the way.

Rivendell can easily have another 2 Nazgul and still include Arwen, Elrond, Bilbo and 1-2 Fellowship characters.

The 4 other lesser Nazgul can be thrown into a number of sets from Bree, Baradur, Minas Morgul, Osgiliath etc

Thats 8 of the 9 taken care off which only leaves the Witch-King, who will most likely appear in a set based on his confrontation with Eowyn (a much more iconic scene than Arwen's chase)

Posted

I dont think we need any more nazgul since they all look the same except for battle witch king, having 9 identical figures seems like overkill unless your doing very specific scene stuff. (besides the nazgul are gonna look terrible if they use the current lego hood)

I do hope for a witch king fig!

Posted

I don't think the current Lego hood looks a million miles away from the Nazgul's hood.

Eight hooded Nazgul and the Witch King with his helmet on would suit me :D
