General Magma Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 (edited) The new Aragorn minifig will have bendable arms, just look at the poster... We're not talking about traditional pieces like arms here, but about something completely different. Now we're on it already - there are several CGI animation advertisements for Star Wars, showing the new sets, but all minifigures are displayed in impossible poses at the end. So that would indicate that they're not real, then? They're not going to re-use those old, blunt and rounded swords in this theme, I just can't see them doing that - maybe a few times here and there, but especially not for a special sword that a main character carries - and before anyone mentions it, I don't care if they did that in other themes, since those actually resembled their weapons and were less major themes. Can't think of any existing sword that resembles Anduril. The greatsword comes closest, but it is far from good as Anduril in my eyes. It just doesn't seem to work for me, whereas a new mold would. Anduril is a much sleeker sword, and I can't think of any sword in LOTR that doesn't have a sharp end. There have been a very large amount of new molds lately, they're not just gonna take an old sword, slap a print on it and say it's Anduril. Believe whatever you want to believe, but I can't see them just re-using only old swords for a big theme like this. ~ General Magma Edited January 17, 2012 by General Magma
deskp Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 A thing to note is that none of the sets we know about so far needs the Anduril sword so even if we dont get it this wave doesent meant we wont get it later.
Dwellington Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I won't link them on account of TLG trying to pull them off the internet, but a quick Google reveals that the Helm's Deep image does seem to give Aragorn a pointy sword. The Weathertop and Moria sets both have the old chrome swords. I don't know if that means anything, I don't know how close those box images are going to be to the final products, and I assume those are also made with CG, but it looks like there is, or at least was, an intent to give Aragorn a new sword. Also worth note, the only image that has anything close to a Ring in it is the Shelob's Lair set, and the Frodo minifigure is carrying an unaltered orange stud. Yeah...

Theyre not CG, and the sword doesent appear anymore pointy than theodens sword, but the design looks a little bit new when looking at the hilt(?) but this could jsut as easily be the image wuality messing it up, it was discussed a while back, my eyes says its 50/50 btween the old chrome one and a new design. Gryphon Ink Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Regarding Anduril, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't make a new mold for a piece that figures prominently in the mythos of a high-profile theme that is supposedly planned to last for years. They made a freakin' Dagger of Time - with not only a new mold, but the more expensive two-tone plastic - for POP.

Your right the ring is just a stud, how boring. There could be writing on the side of the stud to make it look more like the ring.
Eggyslav Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I think that the new CM Highlander's sword will be used as Anduril. Other than that, I'm really exited about upcoming new themes, both LOTR and Monster Hunters.... Maybe I'll save some money to buy them.....
General Magma Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Your right the ring is just a stud, how boring. There could be writing on the side of the stud to make it look more like the ring. The pictures are preliminary. It's been pointed out a milion times before - these probably don't even look like the finished products. Of course they're not going to use a stud for the ring - and a giant 'preliminary' mark is slapped on the box as well. Shouldn't be that hard to notice since it covers up most of the front, so come on people - pay a bit more attention. ~ General Magma
sharky Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Your right the ring is just a stud, how boring. There could be writing on the side of the stud to make it look more like the ring. There is still hope for Frodo and The Ring, but only a fool's hope. Seriously, though, it's possible that they can still put in an actual ring in the final set. At least that's what a fool like myself still hopes. I was also thinking about how Frodo's sword would be cool if it came in a blue color to signify the glow from an orc being nearby.
deskp Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I was also thinking about how Frodo's sword would be cool if it came in a blue color to signify the glow from an orc being nearby. Ohh I really hope they don't do that.
CMP Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Ohh I really hope they don't do that. We'll probably get an extra silver version or two in Weathertop. And in Moria, too.
CorneliusMurdock Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 At the very least the Ring will be one of the new round stud tiles with a print. I hope we get a brand new piece but a stud tile would still be okay.
CMP Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I don't even think LEGO can print actual studs. It'd just be too small.

Lego would be able to do that because I remember in a couple of the older star wars sets the lightsabers lit up.

Lego would be able to do that because I remember in a couple of the older star wars sets the lightsabers lit up. Sorry if it felt rude - didn't mean for it to be that way, but I'm kind of tired of it when people ignore the preliminary marks. Also, it's hard to make something clearly seem like sarcasm over the internet. If that was your intention, I'd use the 'sarcasm' emoticon next time. @sharky: I don't know how they would give Sting the ability to light up, but they might just have a transparent blue version of it, and a grey one at once in every set the sword comes in. That's all I can think of right now, as I can't see them having a system where it would light up without ruining the minifigure... ~ General Magma
deskp Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 We'll probably get an extra silver version or two in Weathertop. And in Moria, too. frodo didn't have sting at weathertop(they might give it to him anyway though), But there is no Frodo minifigure in the Moria set so I hope it isn't in that!
Artanis I Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Regarding the ring, I was thinking that they might make an actual ring out of either the soft bendable plastic or rubber. It would fit in the hand, and have the outer diameter of a stud or a round brick, and the inner hole the size of a handle. So it could be a 1 stud high cross-section of a round brick. That way it looks like a ring and can be held in a minifig's hand. It wouldn't be able to be "worn" as a ring though, only carried or worn as a bracelet. (Remove the hand, attach the ring, replace the hand. Or make it an incomplete circle and use it a bit like the handcuff piece.)
Fives Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I am actually really surprised about how many people think LEGO won't make a bunch of new molds for this theme. Every new licensed theme has scene quite a few new molds, whether they be exclusive to the theme or not. Regarding LOTR, there will probably be more exclusive molds than not. Also, I really doubt LEGO would release a promo picture with new pieces and then not make them. I saw somewhere recently a early promo poster for PoP which had Dastan wearing the Balearics piece from POTC. This means that LEGO designs their new parts at least a year in advance for themes. I know that this doesn't confirm it 100%, but I have a pretty good feeling that we will see lots of new special pieces just for this theme.

If you are referring to this picture, it was posted a moment ago in this very thread by AndyC. However there is actually no baldric piece, only the pouch piece from Indiana Jones. I'm sure there will be many new molds made for the theme, like any other new licenced theme, but on the other hand they will also try to cut corners where new molds are not clearly necessary - otherwise they would end up with dozens and dozens of new ones. I'm quite certain that the Uruk-hai will have a new sword design, and possibly the Rohirrim too. Aragorn and others could do well enough, for time being, with the longsword from Highlander CMF.

(Remove the hand, attach the ring, replace the hand. Or make it an incomplete circle and use it a bit like the handcuff piece.) Well "officially" hands aren't removable (it damages the pieces over time), so that isn't an option. And at that size it would be very difficult to get a round piece to stay in a minifigs grip, so I can't really see that as likely either. Far more likely they'll follow the precedent of Jack Sparrow's compass and use a printed tile that can clip onto a hand, most probably a round one (which is a new element this year, possibly intended primarily for this purpose). I am actually really surprised about how many people think LEGO won't make a bunch of new molds for this theme. Every new licensed theme has scene quite a few new molds, whether they be exclusive to the theme or not. Regarding LOTR, there will probably be more exclusive molds than not. It's not that they won't make new molds, things like the rearing horse are clearly a sign they will. It's just that assuming which molds they will make based solely on an image intended to lego-ify a movie poster, especially when it contains pieces that just seem unlikely, is a pretty weak argument. There's a better chance they'll produce several new types of sword, but again how much one looks like the poster image only time can tell.
Seaber Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 In regard to new molds: Hobbits - I imagine they'll all have the same hair piece as they all have basically the same hairstyle, just in different colours. The One Ring is something I would prefer on a tile, rather than a large moulded thing that looks wrong. The light of Galadriel could use a gem, as is show in the preliminaries. I imagine Sting will get a new mold, but I'm personally not too fussed about molds for the other Hobbits, the old round-ended swords would do. Although, any new mold is a bonus :) Gandalf (the Grey) - His staff and Glamdring, should it appear in the set. His beard, hat and hair could all use old molds, but his hair and beard would be much better with new ones. New fireworks would be sweet as well :D Uruk-Hai - New sword, shield and helmet are vital, as well as new pikes. Pretty sure we will see them all :) Aragorn - Anduril. That's all :D Nazgul - New sword would be good! I know a new hood has been suggested, and I don't think it's vital, but it would be ace :) Boromir - He needs his horn :D His shild could be used with the Spartan mold, and his sword could be the longsword or highlander sword. Legolas - New hair mold (which could be used for all elves, bar Galadriel) A new bow would be great, but I'd be happy with the longbow from the Collectable Elf. Gimli - Could use the Fantasy era beard (two plats) and helmet (without wings) although new molds would be great. I think a new Awe head is more important though, his axe just does not resemble the Viking axes. Theoden - Helmet and Sword, sorted :D

I think Glamdring has a rather smaller chance of being a new mold than Andúril. Otherwise I generally agree with you. Boromir's horn and a Rohan sword would be !

I would agree with Glamdring, apart from the fact Gandalf is one of the core characters of both the Hobbit and LOTR, and it's appearance in the Hobbit could potentially be quite big. Not as big as Anduril, but significant. Also, fingers crossed for Orcrist :P
