Ardelon Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Maybe it's a quiver + hair headpiece? Then it would have to include the head as well, otherwise it wouldn't be possible to put the quiver+head and head on the torso. So far, artistic license seems the most plausible explanation to me (meaning, the parts wont look like that IRL). Yes that is the gladius from the CMF gladiator. It actually looks great as a rohan sword. Meh. Glad for the non-fleshie torso, though! And the fig looks good to me, whether the eyes be higher or lower. Hoping for a Gimli poster next.
4brickmoney Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 The only thing I hate is there will be no pipes. I was watching LOTR last night and that part suddenly dawned on me. I dont smoke but my hobbits will surely want to.

Mr. Elijah Timms Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 When a shire set is made Lego will probably put pipes in the set. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for those pipes. It's not gonna happen. If the Sherlock Holmes minifig didn't warrant one, what makes you think Bilbo will?
AngryChair Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I don't think they will. There are more children in City than will be Hobbits in LotR, so if they had cared/could they would have already. While I agree to a degree, the children in the City range are not as important or as what the Hobbitts were in the LoTR storyline. I think this would be a shame if they didn't. I'm no designer but I can't see it being that difficult

Note: Before this becomes a discussion of TLG's policies, we have a thread for that in the General Discussion forum.

Just because the Lego mini figures have pipes doesn't mean the children will want one.
Itaria No Shintaku Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Just because the Lego mini figures have pipes doesn't mean the children will want one. I agree with TLC policies. Even the new issues of Popeye the Sailorman depicts him wihtout pipe... Lego surely can't go backwards. Plus, smoking is a filthy habit doomed to end somewhen in the future, when humanity will be wiser, like other human habits before it.
Elander Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I've to say that Frodo, Aragorn and Legolas are looking very well. The facial expressions are very realistic and the accessoires looking promising. Some minifigures more like in this quality and that theme will become the best ever. What do you think, how will Gollum be designed? Will he get a new molded head alike Dobby or Master Yoda? -Or will he get a normal LEGO head? Gothmog could also get a new molded head. Woha, that is really heavy. If I count all the cultures, cities and landscapes only from the movies. Than I could count circa 100 possible LEGO LotR sets. Damn, that is real. And that theme "can" really become the best ever!
pedro Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Really looking forward to the LoTR line, the new minifigs look great... though maybe Legolas's face could have been a little lower... or smaller in the vertical axis? At the moment it looks like his hair is growing out of his forehead...
Omicron Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 They will not put pipes in the sets as they don't want to be seen as encouraging smoking in children. Not even if it's the finest weed in the Shire? :( -Omi

Gryphon Ink Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Legolas have blue eyes? Actually, that's a mystery that has never been solved conclusively. In the books, Legolas' eyes are only described as "bright" and "keen", the latter referring more to his vision than to the color. In the movies, his eyes were supposed to be brown, so Orlando Bloom (whose real eyes are very dark blue) wore brown contacts most of the time, but there are several scenes that were filmed without the contacts, so his eyes magically turn blue, and there is at least one scene where he has violet eyes because of something in the digital processing. Another interesting bit of Legolas trivia: in the books, there is no description that says he is blonde. He is only described as "fair". His father Thranduil IS blonde, but most of his race have brown or black hair. Yes, I know way too much about LOTR.

I remember that the appendixes of LOTR (The book) say that only Finarfin's people had blonde hair and other elves (including all the races, I suppose) were dark-haired. Where is told that Thranduil is blonde? I don't remember that, The Hobbit maybe? The Legolas posters look pretty cool, I'm very glad the torso doesn't have any fleshie prints. Gimli seems to be likely for the next poster.
Eggyslav Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I will resize it later, just to allow people to see the details :) Is It just me, or his right ear is different colour than the face? Maybe It's just lightning, or something, but it's much brighter than Legolas' skintone... It kinda even look light gray to me..... Did anyone beside me noticed it?
deskp Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 (edited) What do you think, how will Gollum be designed? Will he get a new molded head alike Dobby or Master Yoda? -Or will he get a normal LEGO head? It apears he'll be made in a smiliar fashion to the monkeys. possibly something with skeleton arms. sharky Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 (edited) Just because the Lego mini figures have pipes doesn't mean the children will want one. They will if they want to be cool like Gimli, Gandalf, and Aragorn. Edited January 20, 2012 by sharky
General Magma Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 What do you think, how will Gollum be designed? Will he get a new molded head alike Dobby or Master Yoda? -Or will he get a normal LEGO head? Gothmog could also get a new molded head. The head will be a newly molded head - I really can't see them just using a regular head for such an iconic character, which is even less likely if you consider the amounts of great details TLC puts into their figures nowadays. The body would be a smaller version of the NinjaGO skeleton body, only filled up, differently printed and in a different color, probably with new legs. That way, he's pose-able and probably also scaled well enough. The arms would be the NinjaGO skeleton/POTC Barbossa (cursed version)'s arms, in an appropiate color for Gollum. I absolutely hope they do something like this for him, I just can't accept the possibility of having a 'battle droid Gollum'. ~ General Magma
Ogre Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I'm rather surprised that nobody has mentioned the non-minifig posing of Legolas' arms...
Eggyslav Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I'm rather surprised that nobody has mentioned the non-minifig posing of Legolas' arms... It's a CGI picture, actual Minifig will rather have normal arms.....
deskp Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I'm rather surprised that nobody has mentioned the non-minifig posing of Legolas' arms... I cant tell if youre being sarcastic or not but the same thing has been discussed with the Aragorn and frodo posters.
Ogre Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I cant tell if youre being sarcastic or not but the same thing has been discussed with the Aragorn and frodo posters. I suppose there was a TOUCH of sarcasm. LOL I just thought it humourous that the colour of his ear, etc., was being discussed, but the unnatural pose was not.
General Magma Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I've been reading about people complaining about the color most likely being bright green today and the inaccuracies of it. However... I've noticed one thing. The color does not look like bright to me, and I don't think it has to do with the picture editing. For some reason, I do not think that TLC only made the new olive green color just for the Nute Gunray figure from the new Star Wars sets. If you take a close look at the figure's green parts, you can spot quite a bit of a difference from bright green, which is the reason that I think that they might be using olive green, or at least a different green color for Legolas. A second comparison shows that olive green actually differs quite a bit from it, but it's either olive green, or perhaps a darker green color if my eyes aren't fooling me. But at least it doesn't look like the normal, bright green color we've known for decades to me. I'd like to hear what others think about this matter. Not completely sure about what I just stated, but I could be right. But if it's still not olive green, then it might be another green color.. Probably not bright green. ~ General Magma

Haltiamieli Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I remember that the appendixes of LOTR (The book) say that only Finarfin's people had blonde hair and other elves (including all the races, I suppose) were dark-haired. So it says in the appendix, you are right. But Tolkien originally wrote that sentence about the Noldor, not all of the Elves. It is curious how it got to the appendices as it is, seemingly about all the Elves, because it doesn't really agree with Tolkien's other words. The Vanyar were golden-haired in all of Tolkien's texts (that's where the golden hair of Finarfin's descendants came from, after all), while many notable Sindar had grey/silver hair. And yes, Thranduil is described as golden-haired once in The Hobbit. In the most recent editions of LotR the paragraph in the Appendix F is footnoted, and there it is mentioned that the words should be taken to apply only to the Noldor. But I suppose we shouldn't go too far in the Tolkien trivia here...
