Andonii Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Is lego creating some new beard standard? it looks like Gimlis helmet fits over Gandalfs beard. ???? Don't you mean Gimli's beard, not Gandalf's?
General Magma Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Agreed, dark red would be best. I have a feeling the arms will be changed, though, especially considering you can clearly see he has red/dark red under his tunic and especially on the side of the torso at the arms, and it makes no sense for his arms to be dark blue. Also, I think he should have black hands as he was wearing gloves while in Moria. I also hope Aragorn has a glove on his right hand. On a separate note, it looks to me like LEGOlas is wearing olive green, for those who were discussing this before. Yup, I'm not so keen on the dark blue arms either. He, Aragorn and Gimli should have gloves as well, though. But that's easily fixed. As for the olive green: indeed, it is olive green - and I mentioned it earlier as well after the pic was posted. I have to say it again! - I was right. Based on that pic, I'd say Sam's pants should be either dark bley or dark tan. I think dark brown might be more accurate for Merry and Pippin. Frodo is fine as is. They should all have different colored cloaks as well, but again I'm nitpicking. This version of Sam seems to be a different outfit, though. But still, he needs differently colored legs. Merry and Pippin could use dark brown legs, but it's probably fine as it is this way already. I'm lucky to have 2 of the dark brown leg parts (from the S5 dwarf), but I'm not sure if it would go well with the torso, since that shows brown printing to match the legs. But we'll see, eventually. On a side note; they do seem to have differently colored cloaks. Sadly, the cloaks they're getting aren't completely accurate judging by the insides of the cloaks. I hope they'll still fix this, as well as the legs while they still can. It's a poster after all, and changes can be made - they could add dark red arms to Boromir, and maybe we'll even see Gandalf with hair beneath his hat, as well as some minifigs getting gloves and such changes. (I doubt the Gandalf change, though) I heard Aragorn's sword was changed on the poster as well. I'm not sure if this is true, but it could be, and thus they could also change these figures a bit. Although I do have the feeling that their legs are already dark brown - you'll notice this when you look at Frodo's torso, and then at the legs. Frodo seems to have dark brown legs, and so do Merry and Pippin. ~ General Magma
deskp Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 ???? Don't you mean Gimli's beard, not Gandalf's? OBVIOUSLY it fits Gimlis beard, but looks like it could fit over Gandalfs aswell!
AndyC Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 OBVIOUSLY it fits Gimlis beard, but looks like it could fit over Gandalfs aswell! Given the number of dwarves in The Hobbit, it's probably done like that to reduce the number of new molds needed to give them all a different look. Surprised to see a molded ring piece, nice if rather oversized, although I'm imagining that having gone to that effort we're going to see the ring in practically every set (possibly in pairs) and they'll start to get as plentiful as Jack Sparrow's compasses!
Logwyn Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 These are simply AMAZING! I know I'm nitpicking here but shouldn't Boromir have red arms? Agreed about Gandalf. Long hair would definitely make him perfect. I'm not too happy with his staff either. That is definitely deserving of a new mold, IMHO. Since this is Gandalf the Grey his hat needs to be blue not grey as well.
Jedi master Brick Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Great pictures  . On a sid3e note does this cnfirm a new piece for the one ring.
BTappel Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Although I was hoping for some set images, it is hard to stay sad when you look at that picture Gimli looks the best.

Frodo is only in 2 sets from scenes where he has the ring, so I dont see any need to get it in non-Frodo sets. Gimlis beard only fits one of the 13 dwarves from The Hobbit, Bifur!

I could be mistaken but I believe Frodo and Sam are pretty much wearing the same clothes through all three films, starting at the point they leave the Shire. The variation comes in whether they are wearing their coats and vests. I think the pants are pretty much the same throughout, though. But again, I could be mistaken. Since this is Gandalf the Grey his hat needs to be blue not grey as well. I know Gandalf's hat is described as being blue in the book but I think it's grey in the film, though with a slight bluish tinge to it. I do admit looking at the films a number of times trying to convince myself it's blue, but I just don't think it is.

In any case the shade of grey/blue his hat is in the film is probably closer to bley than it is to any of Lego's blue shades.

It is blue enough in the movie to where this hat color should be used on the minifigure imagelink gandalf In my opinion, dark grey torso/pants, gray beard and that blueish gray for the hat Edited January 24, 2012 by deskp
surrideo Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 The minifigs will definitely sell this theme more to me than the actual set part of the sets will. This is very strange for me, as I always think of the minifigs as complimenting sets not making them. Hope when images surface of the sets my mind will be changed. Slightly off topic, but can you imagine how much The Fellowship of Minifigs will fetch on Ebay in years to come?

The perfect Gandalf would have his torso and legs in old dary gray and his hat in dark bley. Sigh, but I suppose this will do, lol.

IF he is like hes in the cg image he'll be kind of dull, ALL light gray? if he is like on the prelim box I'll be much happier. once again im hoping its jsut CG oversight!

Yeah, I meant the coat-less variation of Sam. I'm not sure about Sam's hair - perhaps a shorter version (Anakin's hair from SW (as a child)) would work better with him. Not sure about the face either, but I'm sure it should work this way. I think they will most likely add reversible heads for different expressions. ~ General Magma

Generally I would agree that minifigs complement the set but TLG seems to be bucking that trend with the more recent licensed sets like POTC, which had fantastic minifigs and fairly disappointing sets.
TheLegoDr Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 That poster is amazing. I was really shocked signing in and seeing that! Merry and Pippin look the best IMO, but they all look great. I know he isn't in the Fellowship, but for whatever reason I picture Theoden instead of Boromir. I know it is Boromir, but I can't help but picture that face as Theoden's. All the rest, I can easily see the actual actor in these figures. From a distance Legolas really looks like Orlando Bloom. What if Legolas happened to run into Will Turner??? Would the world collapse on itself? I can't wait to see these sets in person. I definitely am excited for these now. I was iffy before, but now I will be buying all of them. Good thing I'm not in love with some of the other themes this year like I originally planned. C'mon Lego, keep them coming!
Ardelon Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'm disappointed in that all of the hobbits could cave been done without the flesh triangle. And Sean Bean looks much better than that! And yeah, dark red arms would have been better on him. I have no problem with Gandalf, i guess I've gotten used to LEGO wizards not having hair. Maybe a sand blue hat would have been nicer though, to break the all-bley color scheme of the fig and to stay truer to the source material. I know it sounds like I'm whining over everything, but on the whole, i really do like the figs. Can't wait to see the obscured torsos.
Aanchir Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Love these fig designs. I don't have remotely enough expertise to find errors in these fig designs-- in my opinion, they're wonderfully diverse and appealing, and they resemble the characters more than enough to be recognizable. My twin brother pointed out when I showed him the pics that the ring piece could potentially be useful for stud inversions.

I first though boromir looked abit wrong aswell, but if you comare it to a picture of Sean Bean it is quite good in my opinion. They got all the facial features right, perhaps he should have the same hair color as Merry.

Indeed it could, but for financial reasons it wouldn't be the best bet, plus it really depends on how strong it is. I can imagine it cracking easily like the star wars droid pieces. Also those mini figures are amazing. I havent bought a set in 6 months now but I am gonna try and buy every single set from this line.
