JackJonespaw Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Yes! I love the pics! So, it looks like the ring will be a new piece, instead of a 1 x 1 flat round plate. I don't really like Boromir, but he's still great. The new Hobbit hair is EPIC!!!!! Edited January 24, 2012 by JackJonespaw
surrideo Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'm hoping that there is a ring in every box(and a duplicate like with Two Face's coin) because I can see my kids losing those things..........
LegoBrickSteve Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 These seem alright, but I hated having to lose the Kingdoms/classic Castle theme in order to make room for another licensed property. Sorry. I'm an original theme/Lego traditionalist. YELLOW FACES FOREVER!
Darkdragon Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I like all the figs, but Gandolf I hope will have hair under showing under the hat. He looks very strange with no hair.
Nightshroud99 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 It's finally struck me that we are going to have an Official LEGO Lord of the Rings theme. I knew before yes, but right now I feel so giddy the wait is palpable. LEGO Lord of the Rings... It's a dream come true, and he figures and sets LEGO is making are just sublime.
achris Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Now the bad news...No Lego The Hobbit sets this year!!! Toy Fair 2012 news
Maxim I Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I really like the minifigs! I will collect them all for sure (and probably the sets too!) I am not that fanatic to argue about some clothing colours, as in the previous Licenced Themes, the clothing wasn't always so accurate neither... But this theme will be Lego...wait for it...ndary for sure!!!
Darth Nihilus Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Now the bad news...No Lego The Hobbit sets this year!!! Toy Fair 2012 news I really doubt this is true, it is probably just someone looking for 20 seconds of 'Net fame for announcing this. If the sets weren't coming out till 2013, they wouldn't be at Toyfair now would they?

If the sets weren't coming out till 2013, they wouldn't be at Toyfair now would they? Read carefully.. The HOBBIT sets will not come out till after the movie.. in early 2013. The LOTR sets should be out by August of this year~

I thought it was pretty obvious we weren't getting any The Hobbit this year. I guess that's just me, though.

deskp Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 people will propably start seeing HOBBIT sets during december like they did with the DC sets. If the hobbit sets are January release.

If the sets weren't coming out till 2013, they wouldn't be at Toyfair now would they? Achris was referring to the "Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" sets, not the LOTR sets The film hits theaters in December, so it makes sense for TLG to release them in 2013 (I guess they're going to be scheduled for release in January but hit stores a month earlier, like this years's Superheroes sets ) The only thing I'm being taken aback by is the current lack of a Saruman minifig, he would have fit perfectly in the Orc Forge set Edit: deskp, Fives, CallMePieOrDie and STIG beat me to it Edited January 24, 2012 by Lego-Freak

Alex the Great Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Those figures are very well done! A few things that could've been done better, but heck I'm really excited to see the sets now. The Hobbit sets coming out early 2013 is fine with me...don't want to blow my money too fast.
surrideo Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 people will propably start seeing HOBBIT sets during december like they did with the DC sets. If the hobbit sets are January release. Yeah, I'd say that is a reasonable assumption. The whole marketing makes sense as the Hobbit may be the prelude to LoTR and written first but the far more popular tale is the trilogy of books and it makes sense to make more sets based on them. I still wonder how well the Hobbit will translate into film, guessing that is why Jackson is splitting it over two films and I think(only my opinion) the LotR sets will appeal to a much wider audience and sell better.
The Crazy One Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Wow wow wow. Love them. I'm not skipping a set. All of them are worth it. Just hoping for some Gondor battle packs next wave and Faramir.
Fives Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'm actually a bit happy that he Hobbit sets won't come out til after the film release. Every time that LEGO has released sets for a movie before it is released, the sets don't always make sense and/or look like the scenes they are based on ( Indy 4, anyone? ). I would rather wait a bit longer and get good sets that represent the film well rather than get OK sets a few months earlier.

Agreed - the POTC Fountain of Youth set based on concept art strikes a chord here. As for the image, generally very happy, but don't like that all the hobbits got the same hairpiece, as it really doesn't suit Sam in particular. Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin really are captured well.
Clone OPatra Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I don't understand; why would the original press release say that the first Hobbit sets would be coming out later in 2012? Would LEGO really not have known their true release plans when they made that press release, and changed their minds about it just a month later? I feel like if they already had the idea to 'slowly build appeal,' they would've known it for the initial press release. Additionally, that just sounds like a phony reason. They didn't take time to slowly build appeal with Indiana Jones, and more than one generation grew up since those original films were released. It could be true, but I don't know.
Brickmamba Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Nice to see new pictures to feed the hungry, overall these look great, most impressed with the hobbits, the detail on the bodies and the variance between each of them is beautiful and the hair is just hilarious because it is faithful to the original. Gimli and Gandalf look rather average to me at this point, were the sets being shown at the toy fair and if so are there any pictures?
AndyC Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Agreed - the POTC Fountain of Youth set based on concept art strikes a chord here. I know what you mean, but if the Hobbit sets are scheduled for release early next year it's not going to make a big difference as the lead time on designing sets is so long, they'll still be based on pre-production artwork just as with Indy 4 and PotC 4.

The UK toy fair does not allow pictures, whereas the New York toy far does. We will have to wait to see pics of the actual sets. Also, I was looking at the new shilled that the Captain America fig has, and I believe that that piece will be used for the new Rohan shields in LOTR. I bet it is the shield Eomer is holding in the Uruk army set.
BTappel Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Anyone else think that "Boromirs" head is actually Theodens? They just messed up the image like they did with his arms. It looks exactly like Theoden... Edited January 24, 2012 by BTappel

It looks exactly like Theoden... I doubt a mistake THAT big would happen, but it is possible. It looks as if Boromir's face has been punched in or squished. It still works, but looks strange.
