Piranha Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Not sure if this has been mentioned (probably has) from Brickset: Actually, before I do that THERE IS A NEW HORSE! Yes, the minifig horse has been redesigned and its hind legs now swivel so it can be made to rear! I'm not sure if all the horses in all the LOTR sets were like this but the ones in Attack on Weathertop certainly were. So now we now that the pose is not static but the legs move so we can pose them! Excellent and that was the way I was hoping for TLG to make them.
deskp Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Anyone else think that "Boromirs" head is actually Theodens? They just messed up the image like they did with his arms. It looks exactly like Theoden... I don't think they messed up, its just that the 2 characthers look similar, besides theoden is more blonde, the facial characteristics does match up with Sean Bean's face.
DaleDVM Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Why in the world do people want individual characters in army building sets? A Saruman minifig would be a total waste in the orc forge set. What in the world would I do with 20 Sarumans after I build my orc army? Worse yet I would have 20 less orcs at the same time because he would have to replace one of those figs for the same price. Putting a figure or element people only want one of in a set meant to sell multiples is a really bad idea. Examples: the pirate captain in the pirate battle pack, the sarcophagus in the pharoahs quest battle pack, Jack Sparrow in the POTC battle pack. Because of this TLG has had a hard time selling these battle packs and in some cases have had to sell them at a loss to get rid of them. I'm glad TLG has the sense to not repeat huge mistakes like this in the LOTR line. Don't worry about getting Saruman. He will be on a Orthanc or Isengard set in the future. If you can't or won't buy the set you can get him on the secondary market. I feel the most important news is the articulating horse. This is incredible and will forever change the way historical themes (plus many others) are portrayed! I hope this source can be trusted. The preliminary pics looked more like a solid mold and don't look like they can move at all? Obviously those pics were preliminary though. The ring is great. I don't think it will be thick enough to allow for stud to stud construction techniques. I agree that boromir looks more like Theoden (too weathered looking), Gandalf needs hair and a staff, and Sams hair is too long. Other than that I think the rest of these figs are spot on. Sam even looks like a fat hobbit. The olive color is great for LEGOlas. Gimli is full of awesomeness! I am amazed that you can make a minifig head look like anyone let alone have them be so easily recognizable. Kudos to TLG! My dream of articulating short legs is over. If they didn't make them for the hobbits and dwarves they have no plans on making them any time soon. Edited January 24, 2012 by DaleDVM

deskp Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 looks like? yes they look enough alike to where their minifigures would be similar in diferent colors. similar hair style, smililar goatee, lines under the eyes, pointy eyebrows and heavy eyes. I'm just talking abou the faces/heads btw.
wonkyeye Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 Everyone!! Go to Bricksets flickr page. The is a distant image of the Lord of the Rings sets. Return it to its original size and you can see the sets, including The Orc Forge!!

Piranha Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Could you post a link? Yes please, that would be nice, I searched but can't find the image mentioned.

Return it to its original size and you can see the sets, including The Orc Forge!! LOL at the guy in the Gandalf costume I copied the picture and zoomed in as much as I could on the sets. They look exactly like the prelims. I was a little surprised helms deep only contains the front of the castle. There is no back I suppose that makes sense since the castle is set against rocks in the movie... Nice to finally see orc forge! Here is the Link! Edited January 24, 2012 by BTappel

Return it to its original size and you can see the sets, including The Orc Forge!! The Deeping Wall on the Helm's Deep set is just sad, luckilly the expansion set exists. From what I can see, the troll looks really good. Unfortunately, the pic is from so far away, not much else is very distinguishable. Anyway, thanks for letting us know!

wokajablocka Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Yeah, a proper ring! That's one of the biggest questions answered now. Now I wonder if it will have and texture to simulate the writing on the ring??? I have to also comment on the Hobbit's hair, well done Lego, give your self a pat on the back. BTappel Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) there are some changes to helms deep. I should not have said exactly like the prelims I just mean not much has changed since then besides the mini figs. Weathertop looks like it got an extra landscape piece, and it appears the set is hinged and contains something inside?! Edited January 24, 2012 by BTappel
Clone OPatra Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 That has to be the biggest volume of rocks I've ever seen in a LEGO line. It seems like half the pieces in each set are just to build rocks! I'm still completely nonplussed about these. The entire point of this line is minifigures; the sets are just grey, grey, and grey. It's good for MOCers, surely, but as sets themselves, these seem pretty lame.
DaleDVM Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) The uruk swords look pretty perfect. I can't see the horses close enough to see their articulation. I also noted their is no box art for the orc forge set. Unfortunately there is quite a bit of brick in the orc forge set. Similar to the uruk hai army set, it will make army building a bit more expensive. Atleast the parts look useful. I wonder if they will come out with battlepack type sets like they have for star wars or even better like the ones for castle? A guy can always hope. Weathertop looks much more substantial than is shown on the preliminary box art. This would explain the high piece count it has. The orcs in the orc forge look the same as the ones in moria? Not sure though. The troll is sand blue? It looks like a good color to me. As a MOCer who builds castle I love all of the grey! Edited January 25, 2012 by DaleDVM
Brickity Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I can't identify which one is the set Mines of Moria
BTappel Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 As a MOCer who builds castle I love all of the grey! +1 I can't identify which one is the set Mines of Moria Look for the blue troll.
Fives Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I can't identify which one is the set Mines of Moria "They have a cave troll." It is the one with the big cave troll in the middle.
LEGOman273 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Then just report it?? Anyway....I've been sitting with my boys who know nothing of LoTR and because Lego are making it and reading the site beside me now want to watch it, read the book and guess what? Dad was going to struggle with his own conscience and will when considering these sets. I'm done for...... When quoting, you deleted when I said "Reported.". I was simply letting others know not to respond, as I always do.
Jack Bricker Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I am really, really excited about these sets. I just cannot wait for helms deep it looks so cool and the fact that they got the tower on the correct side is really nice too. Also I am exstatic about the new ring piece. That is exactly what I was hoping for. Also, the minifigs so far are just gorgeous. I just simply cannot wait.
Ceroknight Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Oh, nice picture! Love how they did the ring, hopefully chrome gold
LEGOTR Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Wow these sets look amazing, its to bad we wont be able to see details until toy fair NY but even from a distance these look great. I am especially excited to see details of the Orc Forge set especially if the fig list of 5 Uruks (or orcs) is true. The uruk swords look pretty perfect. I can't see the horses close enough to see their articulation. How did you zoom in enough to see the Uruk swords?
LEGOman273 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Oh, nice picture! Love how they did the ring, hopefully chrome gold It looks like it will be.
