I find that Aragorn looks too much like Boromir, and that Gandalf could use a hairpiece and a smaller beard. The other figures look great.

I further find that the armor pieces of the Uruk-hai look a bit plain. Gollum doesn't look as wicked as he looks on the poster. Not sure about the Ringwraith yet. On the one hand, I like it. On the other hand, it looks pretty human and not "wraithy" enough. Maybe this problem could be solved with a different leg piece and a different cape, but then it can't be combined with a horse. So I think sacrificing the more "wraithy" look for playability makes sense after all. The Orcs look great as well.

Stange how "Samwise Gamgee" is titled with his full name but Merry, Pippin and Frodo are only called with their first names.

Gollum looks alright to me, but I'm not happy with Gandalf's staff. The others look quite good.

They have to write his complete name, because of trademark purposes.

Besides that, I really think the figs are a must have. I can't wait am really going to save up enough money for a baddies army. The orc hair/ear pieces are fr!ck!n awesome. The only wish I now have is a lot of elves in future sets :cry_happy:

Impressive, most impressive  I hope we'll see a version of Gollum's "Sméagol" personality as well (even though a happy facial expression would look even more scary I guess  ). I do wonder though what we are supposed to put on that stud on his back... A basket full of fish? And I agree, Gimli's beard should be dk/earth orange, not reddish brown/dk brown :sceptic:

Try substituting the Nazgul legs with a black slope piece (legging used for female figs). I've done that with my Nazgul mocs - personally I think it looks great.

Not a bad idea!

I know it's way too much to ask, but I'd love to see some Second Age stuff from Dagorlad - Gil-Galad and Sauron figs? They'd be boss!

I am also very happy with these.

Boromirs shield is beautiful. The swords, well, Brickarms etc. do better ones, but it's ok. Since the LOTR swords are unique 'characters' they should give them more attention.

Ears! Legolas' ears look bigger than the CMF elf. The orcs still win the competition though.

Legolas' and Boromir's torsos look very good as far as I can see.

I don't really care for the hobbits. Is it new to have capes in that green colour? Too bad they are short and therefore not useable on normal figs.

The Urukhai gets three new molds in one fig, I hope they keep that up for some goodies too.

I am okay with the ugly gollum because that's what he is. The arms will be good mor MOCing and customizing.

I like the new LOTR Baddies. I can army build with them and combine them with fantasy era trolls and skeletons. And the ringwraiths finally have a black dragon to ride on! But I am skeptical about gollum's arms, skeleton arms seriously? The one on the poster looks ok to me. Maybe I just have to wait till the release of the sets to finally make up my mind.

Taking a closer look at the Ring Wraith...Does his cape fit ON his arm? Or is his cape just "fluttering" and his arm just happens to be in the right place.

I think the cape is not evely shaped, but partly flayed like that of the Dementor. I suppose the arm to be in the right place; the hand at least is visible.

These are awesome... and from what I've seen of the set pics I'm almost certainly going to buy the entire first release!

One other thing: my wife and I were talking about these when she said "They're missing their Hobbit feet..." and true enough, they feel like they are. I'm kind of suprised LEGO hasn't remedied this by simply painting the feet flesh... Sorry if this has been mentioned or widely discussed already - way too many pages here for me to go and check.

I imagine his head on the poster (Smeagol) will come in another set. In shelob attacks his head is the Gollum head because at that point in the movies he has turned completely bad. His arms are not skeleton arms. These arms are fuller and squared off as opposed to perfectly round like skelton arms.

Heya,

cool cool cool.

Gollum looks great

Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir all great

Hobbits great

LEGO is going good here.

It is quite funny how some people want the minifigs exactly as the movie. Remember that it is based on a book in the first place. So colour difference between LEGO & movie is not 'wrong'.

Uhm, what..?

This license is based on the movies, not the books, so it perfectly makes sense to make the figures look like the movie characters...

Anyways, those figures look fantastic, every single one of them.

Can't wait to see the rest of the figures as well. I suppose that means that the reversible heads are confirmed now,

as both Boromir and Aragorn use expressions different from those that we had seen before.

Really? lol. Ah hahaha. Well, then, I am mixing in my own LotR visualisation with the movie images and think all is fine. :)

Is too!

No, I'm just playing whiny kid.

I've been amassing tools and materials to do my own custom Gollum. That boy nekkid.

But in seriousness, I wish Lego designers would take more care to make nonstandard figs more poseable. After all, they officially conceded minifigs are for stop motion animation (Studios).

On the other hand, started off some bad habits with battle droids and never revised them. Now we've got battle droid style legs spoiling figures that should be fantastic - the lithe and acrobatic 'commando droids', among others.

What they've done for the horses is going in the right direction.

And honestly, I like gollum much more than I thought I would. They did end up treating him like a man, giving him mainly printed features and no nose

You get a little worried after countless Yodas and Dobbys.

Complaint to the other discussionists: How was anyone expecting the eyes to not be big and wide? Gollum's gleaming eyes are key to the character. I mean in the hobbit, bilbo's down in the cave with gollum, and he basically just sees "green lanterns" staring him down.

Orcs are now officially adorable.

The new figures are mostly great.. I do hope the fix Galdalf a bit (staff/hair)

I guess I wish Gollum had more of a molded head like some of the StarWars figures..

(think Wald or Sebulba..pretty detailed and accurate to the movies)

No matter what the final versions are, I'll be in for all the sets. Can't wait~

I know its early for 'The Hobbit" discussion but just for consideration..

Here's the cast of dwarves from the movie.. I look forward to how Lego makes them~

All the rendered figures look great, the detail that went into the PoTC sets are very evident in the designs. Hopefully the Urak Hai and various orcs to begin to appear in battlepack type sets or at least cheaper sets(around the £15 to £30) mark as even I, not so concerned with army building would apreciate a good number of those figs.

edit: Looking at STIG's post, being from the UK. That boy on the far right Aidan Turner is no hobbit. That's a vampire in disguise
