No more nazgul sets please. We just need the witch king in a set.

Legos design for the nazgul is insulting.

I just don't understand the general feeling of disappointment with the Nazgul minifigs. Nazgul are men/creatures shrouded entirely in black so deep you can't make out any details of them. They have no form inside of their armour, and the armour is mostly hidden by their night-black cloaks. Outside of Frodo's moments of "Ring-Vision", the only detail we see on a Nazgul in the first movie is their spiky gauntlets and boots, both of which are impossible to render on a minifig.

How exactly were TLG supposed to make these minifigs look any more like Nazgul?

I sort of feel the same way about Gandalf. Guys, he's an elderly wizard with a long grey beard, who wears grey EVERYTHING and has a tall, pointy wizard hat. He looks exactly like the stereotypical wizard we've seen in a million Lego sets, because the stereotypical wizard we've seen in Lego sets, and in D&D, and in every other fantasy book/game/movie/TV show, is based on Gandalf! Granted, they could have made the new minifig a taller, skinnier hat and a better staff - but that's not going to magically turn this minifig into the exact likeness of Sir Ian McKellen.

I just feel that some people expect way too much from minifig design.

I see your point Gryphon but I do disagree on Gandalf. My beef is with putting a rod in Gandalfs hand and calling it a staff. The rest of the fig is ok. I am hoping the beard has a bit of hair at the back too. I just don't think it is right that the Uruks get 3 new molds that will never get used again on any other fig. Gandalf gets a new beard that will be used over and over. More or less it is like Gandalf rated no new mold at all. He is the main character when you consider all 5 movies or both stories. I find the effort on him to be lacking. I am still hoping for his staff. We will see.

I do agree about the Nazgul. I think they look just fine. I am not sure what more could have been done for them either. I immediately recognize them as ringwraiths. That is the pass test for me. I imagine more of these will show up at the prancing pony. I hope they do not make a Ford of Bruinen set. Just include those characters in other sets and make your own. As a battle pack it is a total waste cuz who wants more than one sick Frodo/Arwen, and once you get 9 wraiths you don't want any more of those either.

I think the closeup of Gollum is just awesome. His expression is perfect for the Shelob attacks set. He is in the perfect pose. He could be ambling along with the hobbits, trying to catch fish, or even fighting with the hobbits. I think we will get two different heads for him. He will show up in another set with the (Smeagol) poster face.

Agreed, it's a lego representation of the characters likeness. If you want a carbon copy likeness I'm sure Megabloks would have done one but would you have wanted to buy it?. The lego minifigures classic shape is it's charm and there is a real danger too much detail or new molds would detract from what makes lego toys better imo

About Nazguls, I think They deserve their own Battlepack: The WitchKing on Fellbeast, and eight Ringwraths on Horses... That Would be Cool, IMHO.....

From a financial point of view I don't see lego making battle packs, why let everyone collect all the figures for £10/$10 or whatever, when they can squeeze say £50/$50 out of us with a set? That's not to say I wouldn't like a battle pack!

I agree!

Thats why i think, if we do eventually see battlepacks it will probably be inbetween 2 waves so that people buy the sets first

This counts for the "collectable" main characters, but not for the generic soldiers. People wouldn't buy a lot of sets to army-build (= less money for TLG), but they would buy a lot of battle-packs (= more money for TLG).

Should we be expecting some pics from the German toy fair at the end of today? :cry_happy:

FBTB probably will have some pictures of the new sets up before the end of today. Last year there were also some videos uploaded onto YouTube, so check there and you might find your pictures earlier than FBTB will post them.

This is a great point, and very well said.

For those looking for super-detailed, accurate representations of the movie characters, you probably should be collecting action figures, not mini-figs. I collected a whole bunch of the Toy Wiz action figures from the LOTR trilogy, and they were amazing likenessess of the actors (except for Aragorn, whom they could never seem to get right).

That's not what Lego mini-figs are all about though. The appeal comes from that familiar, classic form, and how TLC is able to endlessly adapt it to create stylized versions of recognizable characters. I totally agree with surrideo that there is such a thing as TOO MUCH detail. You risk losing what makes mini-figs so unique and charming in the toy industry.

The whole concept of the battle pack is to build an army. If you check out how this was done with Star Wars, you'll see that the minifigs are just generic clones, rebels, droids, etc. Not specific named characters. I would love LEGO to do this with LotR. I'd love to have different BPs with elves, Warriors of Rohan, Orcs, Uruk-Hai, etc. That way I can have epic battles like in the films.

Hehe. I'll say it again. The biggest gripe I have about the Gandalf the Grey minifig is the hat color is wrong. It shouldn't be grey. It should be BLUE. All the others look wonderful. They are done in lego! And honestly they are excellent!

The best color for his hat would've been sand blue. Actually, I'm quite sure that's exactly the color.

Not sure why they made it dark grey, but oh well. The only way to fix it is to brasso a sand blue hat from 2007's castle impulse set.

I really hope that they are reading this and decide to change the color to sand blue after all, last moment or not. And Gimli's beard needs to stay dark orange...

I think they will come out with Battlepacks eventually...but only after the main sets have been out for a while. Just look at the history of the Star Wars line...they have been getting Battlepacks with army builder type minifigs for ages. Hopefully Lego sticks to that model and doesn't start including characters in the Battlepacks. I know that would limit the number I get and I'm sure others probably feel the same way. As a Brikwars player I would like to build up some armies as well but if Lego does not do Battlepacks then the LotR minis will be joining existing groups of minis as my budget only allows for a few repeats of the sets.

I think its pretty easy to come up with sets, which have a strong tie to the story, and include some characters, and besides that, they can make lots and lots of Battlepacks with Soldiers and Characters from each faction.

Fixed that for you. The upcoming Star Wars Battlepacks and have characters in them and that really defeats the purpose of the Battlepack. The PotC Battlepack was just about all common characters with one troop guy (if I remember correctly) and my local Lego store still has plenty of them on the shelf. Just troop type minis belong in Battlepacks and hopefully Lego will remember this when they release LotR Battlepacks.

I'm with you Odin's son Fred. I said in an earlier post. No individual characters and no sarcophagus/treasure chests in the battle packs. If TLG hasn't learned that by now then I don't know what will get the point across. Every time they make a battle pack with those flaws they sit on shelves forever. They usually have to sell them on clearance. When they make them like the castle theme. They sell out in less than 6 months.

Please LEGO when you make a battle pack keep it exclusively to one faction and generic minifigures.

Yes, I agree with you that if they release any battle packs they shouldn't contain major characters, I just reckon that if battle packs are released they will be after another wave or two :classic: . I'm just going to concentrate on getting all the new sets at the moment!

Hi all,

Found some set numbers:

9469, Gandalf Arrives

9471, Uruk-Hai Army

9472, Attack on Weathertop

9473, The Mines of Moria

Heya

Those numbers are out for a while now, However, just now i notice the 9475 missing between Helm's Deep and the Orc Forge. Is this "normal" during other new releases in other themes..?
