freakwave Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Great piece of work! The technique for the curves is great, first time I see them in this way. fW Quote
DLuders Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 @ Gijserman: Did you consider making your Lego Rollercoaster with the Lego 8867 Flexible Train Tracks, twisted in 3 dimensions? Quote
Gijserman Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 @ Gijserman: Did you consider making your Lego Rollercoaster with the Lego 8867 Flexible Train Tracks, twisted in 3 dimensions? Hey! Haven't tried to work with flexible track yet.. Looks nice, but I think it will need a lot of support structure to keep it in the air. Also it might not be as smooth.. But haven't tried it yet! Quote
LEGO Family Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Awesome. The speed is incredible. I would have thought that the wagon would fall of at those speeds. Incredible technique. Most have taken some time to put together. Anyhow very well done. Cant wait to se V2 of it. ( There will be a V2 right ? ... You really should make one ) :) Quote

Gijserman Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Take over the entire house for "Research and Development"! It must have taken many weeks to refine the design. We actually built this in one weekend! But we were well prepared when we started We made some rollercoasters before, so we knew what to do Quote
Rail Co Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 So how did you use the track to make more of a bent motion and them no fall off or break apart? Or maybe it is just my blue track that comes off easily? Thanks, Rail Co. Quote

allanp Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Have you tried having a long train of cars, like 6 or 7 together? Quote
Gijserman Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 Have you tried having a long train of cars, like 6 or 7 together? We experimented with more cars, but without success so far. In the curves they derail pretty easy, because the front car is being pushed rather than going on its own. Loopings have to be built really strong, cause the weight of the cars is much heigher.. Stuff like that. I'm going to do some more experimenting with more cars though, just ordered some extra lego on bricklink just for that purpose Quote

Gijserman Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 Excellent! Can't wait to see more Here's a preview of what I've done so far Quote
BobBongo1895 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Fantastic work, the train looks real. I like the use of the lapbars, because I hate OTSR. Quote
Gijserman Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 Looks awesome! How will you do curves? tim I think we will use the same same type of curves we used with the roller coaster in video at the start of this topic, but maybe a little more reinforced and a bit smoother.. It's not the curves I'm worried about, it's the chain lift and the loop. I'm not sure the lego chain will be able to pull up all this weight without breaking and I'm certainly not sure if the loop can handle all these forces... Will find out soon enough though.. Strikeman Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 This is way cool maybe you can use a dual link setup to pull the cars up, or divide them in a few smaller loops. Adding a hook to the bottom of the second cart (or even all of them) will allow for transitioning between the smaller loops. Zblj, are you referring to the threads used in 8043 ? Because I think those might be a bit too wide maybe ? Quote
