Some of you may remember that i was trying to motorize 8070, and this is the result of that endeavor.

8070ss0001.jpg

it has pneumatic doors, hood, and spoiler, and a motorized compressor, which i ripped out for something else. it also has headlights, and 2 xl motors for propulsion. on the minus side, the drive train and pneumatics take up so much room that i could not fit an interior.

8070ss0002.jpg

as can be seen in this picture, i restored the front splitter that was dropped in the production version. i also added black racing stripes on the hood, and filled in some gaps, namely right behind the spoiler.

8070ss0003.jpg

I'm really not sure if i can salvage this project, as it is currently resting in pieces. I'm not even really sure if i where I'm going with it, as to whether I'm going to make it a pure supercar with focus on looks ala Crowkillers , or whether i want to motorize it. if i chose the latter option, I'm considering giving it all wheel drive, and a four speed gearbox. but i just can't find any room in it. :cry_sad:

so, what do you think? should i motorize it, or go for looks?

I alsways put functionality over looks. go with motorized

Or you can take your time and incorporate both into your model... A rushed ugly model built around a bunch of power function gimmicks may impress some people, but more people will be impressed by a well thought out overall build...

Well, that's why it's resting in pieces currently. it was really a rushed job, and it shows. this will end up being non power functions, but with good looks. if i were to motorize something, it would be built from scratch. maybe a LeMans DeltaWing?

So what are you saying? Do you want to have a 8070 with all of the features of say the 8448 SSS or 8880? Or are you looking to make one that you can drive?

I have not been in to Technic long but i would suggest you build your own model from scratch incorporating functionality and good looks,

at present i am building a truck and could have taken the easy route and motorised the 9397B model to do what i wanted but I am having

so much fun and satisfaction out of building and modelling my own creation that i would not reccomend any other route, the people on these

forums are so helpful and have come across many of the problems you will come up against, so just go for it, and enjoy it aswell, there is

no rush, i put in a couple of hours a day and am very happy with the input of others that know more than me to help me create an awesome MOC.

Good luck with your build

@Saberwing

I wasn't referring to your project here, I was replying back to 88high that if you take your time that you can incorporate both... I didn't know how much time that you had in the one that you working on...

I think one of the Goals with building a smaller scale 1:10 car with Power Functions is to not let the power functions change the way that you build the model and dictate how it will look in the end...

Okay, but nevertheless, this model is going to lose the motorization, and the pneaumatics, which would allow it to be a pure styling exercise. instead i plan to have the following:

Rear biased all wheel drive.

Maybe all wheel steer, but it's unlikely.

Some weird engine, maybe a transverse V-12 or a Wankel.

Back seats, either accesed through gull wing doors, or suicide doors, sort of along the lines of a Mazda RX-8

Hand of God and cabin steering.

Sunroof , or maybe a solid convertible roof.

An 8 speed automatic, or 7 + reverse manual

Black racing stripes.

Adjustable suspension.

However, the above is prelimanery, and i plan to change the appearence as little as possible. However, if i can, i might make it remote controlled, with a sequential gearbox, and maybe remote suspension raising. Sadly, this model is on the back burner, for now. :cry_sad: but I'll take your advice, and take my time in making it look good.

100th post! It's at this point we know that Eurobricks has ruined my life.

Anyway, it's update time.

Man, it was a pain in the behind to get these pictures off my phone, because of the fact that i'm using a school computer, and it cannot connect to my phone due to the retarded restrictions. (don't worry, I've done my work.)

Sadly, i cannot resize the images with this computer, so come back in an hour or so, and they'll be up.

Edit: and here they are.

So far, all I've made is a front wheel drive mechanism. this is just an initial version, and needs to be rebuilt, which probably will not happen as my younger sister has taken over my build space. However, school is ending, so I'll have much time on my hands. :excited: I've just about had enough of school and the idiots who go there. :enough::ugh::distressed:

Back on topic, here it is.

8070ss0004.jpg

(i apologize for the bad pics, it was taken with my cellphone.)

The shocks, unfortunately, are not stiff enough, and will have to be relocated.

8070ss0005.jpg

the bottom, showing the drive shaft. sadly, this mechanism skips, and will have to be reinforced.

8070ss0006.jpg

The steering mechanism, up close.

And yes, it just drops right in the frame.

Look forward to another update come Thursday.

I guess that's why you're "Crazy about Lego" -- your Avatar says that you're from the Country "Luna", so that makes you a "lunatic"!

Well, not quite. I'm actually on Earth's Moon, or Luna :alien: . More precisely, I'm located within Tabgha Lunar Base. (If you get the reference, cool.)

Anyway, I've got an update. I've installed the steering module, in it's completed state. the transmission, however, is neither here nor there. it's currently only half installed, and it's mounted too high.

Overall:

8070ss0007.jpg

The suspension module, production version. This mod fixes the weak springs of the previous version, and is much lower overall. Sadly, the car only has about 2 mm of travel before it bottoms out. Most supercars ain't any better in that regard, though.

8070ss0008.jpg

The transmission is a creation of my own, and has a whopping 7 speeds! :angel_sing: To my knowledge, it's the first ever in a lego creation. Unfortunatly, you can not ignore it's girth, or the fact that it's mounted much to high. It's not finished, and will be subsequently taken apart, and the frame modified to fit it in lower.

8070ss0009.jpg

The transmission gate. It's based on an idea by Zblj.

8070ss0010.jpg

Anyway, that's all for now. So, who wants moar?

@ Saberwing40k: Sure, I'd like to see more! What is the set of 8 black Technic ball-and-socket connectors (in the last picture above) used for -- are they "shift gates" for the transmission?

Yuppers, that's exactly what it's for.

Are you having any problems with those 24 and 8 tooth gears binding up at all?

Nope, not at all. eventually, there will be a brace module that goes over all of those gears. the transmission should be updated later today, so stay tuned. Or not. I've got an update, but it will be saved for tomorrow.

Okay, it's update time. After an EPIC schedule slip, I finally have been able to post this.

The slip was due, in part, to me reading a few too many works of Fan Fiction. If you're wondering why, It's because I can, and It's because i wish to gain inspiration for a writing piece of my own. Here's two that really stand out to me. Altered Destinies and Bring Me All Your Elderly. The first one I recommend to Anime fans, and the second one is a hilarious demolition of the gad awful movie The Last Airbender

Oops, I seemed to have hijacked my own thread. Anyway, update. The transmission is now installed, but this has caused multiple problems. First and foremost is that the transmission is so low, and the car has so little ground clearance, that I can not get the steering or the AWD system to the front wheels. Also, the transmission is far too wide, and the ratios are so low that it can't be back driven, which is sort of critical. Crowkillers, if you're reading this, can I get some assistance?

The front of the gearbox.

8070ss0011.jpg

Overall

8070ss0012.jpg

The underside of the gearbox.

8070ss0013.jpg

also, there are two engine choices, a supercharged straight 6, or a normally aspirated V-8. both would be mounted transversely, on the LA bracket at the front of the gearbox.

8070ss0014.jpg

Also, if you can't see the old pictures, don't panic. I'm just reorganizing the Brickshelf folder, and will have them fixed tomorrow. And there they are. There will be no updates for a while, as I need to reorganize, and I've lost interest for now. Does anybody want to see me finish this?
