Hi there,

I’ve been lurking around eurobricks for some time now and figured it would be polite to finally register and introduce myself.

I’m 26 years old, living in the Netherlands. I recently came back to LEGO after years of only taking secret glances at awesome MOC’s online and at new sets whenever I found myself in toy stores. It started (again) when I finally bought the medieval village a few years ago. It looked so damn awesome and I've always been a fan of castle themes. Later I also bought the Volkswagen beetle, because I owned a real one at the time and the set looked great (and it is  ).

A few months ago I gave in entirely and started figuring out how I could seriously get back into the LEGO game. I bought the kingdoms jousting set and quite a few Harry Potter sets, some really cools sets imo. I’m really looking forward to the new monster hunters and LOTR sets to. I’m mostly into historical and fantasy themes as you might have guessed by now.

So far I’ve only been collecting sets. However, I also want to start MOCing. I just have to sort out my LEGO’s in a way I can actually find pieces.

And I also have to figure with what I want to start with, which is harder then I thought. I have a lot of ideas floating around, but my lack of experience in MOCing is holding me back, I should just start and see where it leads me I guess. Part of the reason I decided to register here is that I hope to find inspiration and tips to get me started and off course to share my creations once I finally start and like the result.

Now that I've introduced myself, I'm of to reply to some topics I've been following.

Welcome at EB. Are you also member of other LUGs already? B.t.w. what about your nickname?!

Nope, any I definately shouldn't miss out on?

About the nickname.. :look: When I once had to make an account for some site, I put in one of my regular usernames. It was taken, and out of the blue it suggested I should use Insane Ostrich instead. I found it hilarious and decided to stick with it

Welcome to Eurobricks. :classic:

Welcome to Eurobricks. If you wanted, you could use LEGO Digital Designer to start designing MOCs. This mitigates the issues of limited selection and finding pieces.

Welcome to eurobricks. It's always nice to see a felllow Dutch guy join this site. Looking forward to your MOCs.

Welcome to Eurobricks Insane Ostrich!

You should really become a member of one (or more) of the local LUGs. It is a great way to actually meet people who think alike (translate: 'are crazy too').

Have you been to any of the local LEGO shows? These are organized by De Bouwsteen.

Another LUG is LOWLUG which organize private meetings.

I played around with LDraw a bit, but I found the program rather fussy. It's great to have every piece imaginable to play with, but building something felt more like a chore then actually having fun. Might give LDD a go if it's more easy to use.

Thanks for the links, I'll make sure to check those out. It's always nice to meet fellow crazies.

Well, some pieces are still missing from the LDD inventory, but the selection does rival that of LDraw. I find the drag-and-drop feature of LDD to be easier than LDraw, and the method of turning pieces is easier, but it lacks the ability of making certain illegal connections (or overlapping pieces) that LDraw has.
