ZCerberus Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 NOTE: This post initially contained a discussion on Canada-US relations, but because the US loves it neighbors to the North, and Canada loves it neighbors to the South except when promoting national identity, the post has been modified to keep the discussion on important things, like Lego Imperial Harbors. Sting Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 AMAZING MOC. I love the harbour. The choice of colors is the perfect blend. I find too many Imperial MOCs where too much Yellow or too much White is used in the wrong parts. This is the perfect mix. I am very into the size of the fortress, and my favourite room I can see, is Ironically the Rowboat Room. It is very interesting, and ironic for me since I hate the Pirate Rowboat Pieces (Mainly because I have way too many of them and I find them kind of annoying unless I have a HUGE MoC for them to work with). But because your MOC is so big and they fit so good it works. I like the incorporation of what I believe is the new Grey on the rock outcroppings. My only criticism is the rock buildups along the rowboat room should be short enough to leave at least 1 blue stud on the outside of the baseplate (they grey rock outcroppings touch the edge of the baseplate). For some reason I don't like this when I make MOCs (I always try leaving some space. It is just something I do, but the MOC is so good and it is such a small thing that I was purposely looking for. The action shot you show of the entire harbour (the last pic you show) is amazing. This looks like a giant display that would be in a Legoland Catalog that would pump up anyone to build a massive Imperial MOC. I sent you a PM on our other discussion as I think I should keep it out of the thread on your great MOC. Quote
ZCerberus Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 I plan to continue the walking tour today. Check back a little later for some updates. I hope to get the store house and tower structures posted at the least! Quote
ZCerberus Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 Next on to the store house. Here is the CAD of the store house. A few shots of the store house in the actual Lego built version. Here is a look at the handcarts used to load the store house. The upper level roof being removed. It is magnetic so it is easy to remove. Here is a shot of the second level removed, so we can see the lower level. There is a ramp to reach the upper level, storage of barrels, chests and crates and a mini treasure horde in the lower level. The second level also has chest and barrel storage as well as a large table and a large treasure horde. There is also a shoot out between the Imperials and the pirates in the upper level. The Imperials are taking cover behind the overturned table while the pirates are hiding behind barrels. Quote
ZCerberus Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 The guard houses and the gate houses are not intended to be anything special. The gate houses raise and lower two dock sections that connect the harbor together. The guard houses are identical and weren't intended to be anything special. They turned out looking pretty good, and they were actually the first things I designed via CAD before I actual built them. Quote
Capn Frank Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 ZCerberus that's a flippin sweet moc dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's got white, yellow, imperials... LUCKY!! Quote
ZCerberus Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 Okay, only two more sections to go! Once you get passed the draw bridges, you are on the side of the harbor featuring a stockade. I intentionally placed the stockade on a different section than the armory and fortress. I figured escaped pirates don't need to be causing any more ruckus than escape itself would. The only thing in the CAD design that I never got around to finishing was a gallows. There is a place for one in my harbor, but it is currently empty. First the requisite CAD shot! Actually three shots of the stockade as it developed. A few shots of the complete Lego version! The prison administrator on top of the watch tower. His office is below. A prisoner marches to the second level of the stockade The docks outside the main gates. A peak inside the administrators office. Not much room to work in there, so he only gets a single table and a little map to look at in his spare time. The administrator's office is also removable so you can see the doors and main entry below. I am not sure what this little out cropping is supposed to do. I think mostly I just wanted some one to be able to watch the side for incoming prisons etc. On to the cells themselves. Like the store house, the roofs are magnetic and removable! Besides the cell upstairs, there is another large one downstairs. Easy to access when the upper floor is removed via technic pins (of course) A shot of the stockade area with all of the level removed. Quote
Capn Frank Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I sent my brother the link of this harbor and he thinks it's awesome! I told my brother he should make a kewl harbor this big. He said he may not have enough pieces; the guys got almost every imperial set ever made and doubles and triples of the medium and smaller sets. He doesn't think he'll be able to make one strong enough to fend off me frigate i think. I hope he's right >8-) . Edit: Yes, well 140 stud length Frigates with many guns (and space wheels) are always hard to stop! LOL! Yeah them space wheels provide good horsepower and acceleration for blitz attacks and quick get-aways if i'm over gunned. It's hard to steer though, but it's very easy to move the ship around considering its mass and size. When i start buying from BL, i think i'll buy sets and only get imperial fort sets. i love those white castle walls. Quote

Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted December 14, 2006 Eurobricks Emperor Posted December 14, 2006 Your fortress is really one of the best I have seen. You are good in presenting it (good pictures). I was just wondering howmuch the pieces would cost on Bricklink to build "the side of the harbor featuring a stockade". Does your CAD program also provided building instructions? Quote

I was just wondering howmuch the pieces would cost on Bricklink to build "the side of the harbor featuring a stockade". Does your CAD program also provided building instructions? Ah... well it generates part lists... but it has errors... It includes the sub-model as a "part" with a color, but it only counts the pieces in the submodel once... so if I have a submodel that I use 5 times, it will only count the pieces for the submodel once and then says I have 5 of them... maybe that doesn't make sense... Anyway, MLCAD also lets you make instructions... if while building you tell it you are starting a new step. I didn't bother since I was just designing it without needing instructions myself. Therefore the program allows it if you think ahead, but I didn't really do so! Is there a particular building you are interested in? Or is it just a general question? Quote

Well, I'm planning (rather long term) to make a harbor or fortress myself, so I would like to experiment a bit with MLCAD. I never used it and still don't have it on my PC. Would you be willing to share your MLCAD designs of the harbor as an example and starting point (so I can import them) to do some experimenting? Quote
Captain Roger Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 is too huge but lovely...i olove that MOC...the mobile roof is a good idea Quote
ZCerberus Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 is too huge but lovely...i olove that MOC...the mobile roof is a good idea Too huge? WHAT! Doesn't it need to be BIGGER! Well maybe not. Thanks for the compliment! Quote
Governor Broadside Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Looking over your CAD pics made me remember something: what kind of person would create a CAD part for the jail door but no door frame? :( *still waits for a Ldraw parts update with this part* Quote

No door frames for my jail doors... No rowboats... The middle section for the Masts on Pirate ships isn't an official part.... They are missing rounded inverted slops of various sizes... No large Red Imperial Flags! I could go on, but seriously! Yeah. I tried to find an unofficial part for all of those, and with the exception of the mast, I have not come across them yet. Quote
El Bucanero Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 That's a lovely MOC ZCerberus!!! I wish I had that!! I don't think it is too big... I think a MOC can always be bigger... Quote
Captain Roger Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 i said too huge....but not saying it like a bad point. I don't like huge ships, but i like huge ports ;-) Quote
ZCerberus Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 So I did a lot of work on the Harbor... but it is still being called "The Imperial Harbor". I am thinking it needs a new name. Norrington: No Halo names... unless it is ingenious ;-) Any suggestions? I will take basically any suggestion, regardless of meaning or language. I can always give it a name, and a nickname in another language if I get several good ideas! Thanks guys! Quote
ZCerberus Posted December 28, 2006 Author Posted December 28, 2006 Well no one gave me any ideas, and I needed a name for a story, so I am calling this guy, Fort Brighton Quote

I don't see anything wrong with mine. Well no one gave me any ideas, and I needed a name for a story, so I am calling this guy, Fort Brighton I think Ft. Brighton fits well with this beautiful MOC. ZCerberus Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 This oldy is getting dusted off as a thread for two reasons. 1) I need to replace the photos here so that they don't become nothing but dead links when Brickshelf goes off line at the end of the month 2) It was featured in this month's classic-pirates.com newsletter!! Anyone who is unfamiliar with this MOC, or those who would like to revisit past glories (and my first major MOC featured in the forums), feel free to comment! Edit: Phred, did you resize my signature picture? If you did I appreciate it, if you didn't, then I must have done something weird... Quote
