Dan Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 9B Diorama Hello Lego folks! I now want to show you my little lonesome Island. Maybe you have seen it in my Brickshelf Gallery. But now there is room here in this thread, to post your opinion about it. Overview: Pirates discover the island: Yes there is a cave in the hill, it is a good place to encryption the treasure: Now it is time to make a X on the map, to find the treasure again: Time for a drink: This Island is not rebuild. But it is not mudular. But I want to transfer it in my new Little-Pirate-world that I want to rebuild. Here in my Brickshelf Folder you can find more Pictures from the Island. Klick Take a look in the subfolders to, but the pictures of the Island are not sorted. PS: To read and write in english is not so easy for me, so sorry for the grammatical errors/mistakes. Regards Dan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2006 Governor Posted November 24, 2006 This little lonesome island is quite abuzz with activity. Does it have a name or is it just known as "little lonesome island"? And is that a Skulls Eye Schooner peaking in from the left-hand side? Quote
Dan Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 In my first steps I build a big parot in grey and darkgrey, so that it looks like a rock. I wanted to name the island, Parot Island. But I did not at the Rock-Parot on the Island, because it dosent work/ it dosent arrange withe the rest of the island. And there is no Name for the Island. But I want to give a name. Do you have one? Yes it is a 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner. Good eye! But the that Skull's Eye Schooner that you see is modified. I have no more pictures of it. I will show you later more when I take pictures of the ship. But the modified is not so big. Do you have a proposal for a name? Do you like it? In my opinion the Rock/Hill with the cave, is to spiky/( in german Spitz). Regards Dan Quote
oo7 Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Your English isn't that bad, much better than some other new pirate fans around here, and if you want to improve it you've come to the right place, In my visit here I now can type a little faster. :-P so if you want some constructive criticizism, "Klick" is spelled with a "C" not a "K". ;-) This island is nice. *y* I like how you used real bricks and didn't take the easy way out that most people take. As for a name suggestion, how about Avery Isle, Avary Isle, or Aves Isle (or you could use the suffix island if you want but in this case I think isle sounds better)? Those are all derived from the latin root "bird" and today "Aves" is the taxonomic class of all birds. I picked this in honor of your failed stone parrot and the relatively large colony of multi-colored parrots that remain (Lego-wise that is, 5 parrots all grouped together is a fair amount). So is this still in one peice? If so, It would look better with some more foliage, but that's a given, "more the merrier"... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2006 Governor Posted November 24, 2006 Do you have a proposal for a name? Mr Oo7 has suggested "Avery Island" or some variation of that name, however I'm not sure 5 parrots on a MOC this size is sufficient to make that name posthumousness. Is there any particular reason the Pirates have arrived at the island? Are they burying or retrieving treasure? their activity may give way to suitable title for the island. In my opinion the Rock/Hill with the cave, is to spiky/( in german Spitz). Are you going to reduce the spikiness? Quote

So, the name doesn't have to be completely corresponding with the charactistics of it, the "Black Seas Barracuda" does not sail in the Black Sea or in black water and does not have any affiliation with large but thin carniverous fish whatsoever. Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted November 24, 2006 Eurobricks Emperor Posted November 24, 2006 Maybe call it Cutthroat Island like in that great pirate movie. This island is really something different than the ships and fortresses we have been seeing lattely (not that I don't like to see ships and fortresses, keep them coming ;-)). Very refreshing! My English is also not so perfect, but I hope I'm getting better at it. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2006 Governor Posted November 24, 2006 So, the name doesn't have to be completely corresponding with the charactistics of it, Yes it does! It does! It does! It does! The name must be a literal translation! It must! It must! It must! the "Black Seas Barracuda" does not sail in the Black Sea or in black water and does not have any affiliation with large but thin carniverous fish whatsoever. Yes it does. It got that name because Captain Roger takes it sailing in the Black Seas to go Barracuda fishing. PS X-D Quote
Captain Roger Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 some hours ago i said when i posted in the huge port MOC about i thought i won't see a better MOC. I am beggining to boub it...that island is sooooooooooooooooooo cooooooooooooooooooooooooooool...I love it. But about minifigs...who is the Captain...me or the guy with skull hat, blue jacket and brown eppaulettes? sometimes i think TLC must learn of MOC builders arrrrrrrrrrrrr Quote

I am beggining to boub it...that island is sooooooooooooooooooo cooooooooooooooooooooooooooool...I love it. You talking smack about my harbor? I like this mock in general. it mostly is just an island, as opposed to some structure of sorts, but I like the color use, it is very clean and the pictures are VERY well taken. In terms of names, maybe you should go with something from your own language, since English isn't your first. Many islands having Spanish or French names, for example, even if largely now inhabitted by English speakers! So maybe pick something from your natural tounge, and see how it fits! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2006 Governor Posted November 24, 2006 One thing I'm not too keen of is the inclusion of conifers because I don't really think they fit in well with the tropical plants, obviously because they thrive in a different climate. I'd recommend the following to create a denser jungle: and Of course you probably don't have those pieces but there's feedback for you. Quote

One thing I'm not too keen of is the inclusion of conifers because I don't really think they fit in well with the tropical plants, obviously because they thrive in a different climate. Agreed. Although I like the deciduous, since it so small you could think of it as a small jungle bush thing, the name is escaping me at the moment... I'd recommend the following to create a denser jungle: Dont forget these! And these work well if used correctly; :-P Quote
ZCerberus Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I like the dense factor in the jungle. I guess I only see one 'conifer' tree in there, and a couple of those wild west spikey bushes! jungles are rather dense with tall plants though, so those spikey bushes aren't a bad choice, even though they are a little out of place! Happy building! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 26, 2006 Governor Posted November 26, 2006 Whoa, someone drank too much coffee this morning... Who here drinks coffee? I certainly don't... Dont forget these! I intentionally left these out because I thought they're better suited to swaps. Quote
Scouty Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Not neccesarily, they can be in tropical forrests or wherever. There are plants with big leaves that could be in that area. I don't drink coffe, and hopefully never will. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 26, 2006 Governor Posted November 26, 2006 You mean these ones? Quote
Scouty Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Sure, why not. Big leaves, they're there. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 26, 2006 Governor Posted November 26, 2006 Because I was having swamp thoughts which were interfering with my jungle thoughts. But you've shown me the way Imperial Scouts, I can now see how some may find these useful for filling out jungles. However! I have vowed to only ever use them for swamp purposes in my MOCs! Quote
Governor Broadside Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I like the mountain on the island; is it a volcano? Overall a nice MOC. The ideas for more leaves/vegetation are good. Did pirates ever drink coffee? I can't imagine one saying "We need some barrels of coffee beans for the hangovers we'll have with all this rum." :pirate4: I don't drink it either. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 27, 2006 Governor Posted November 27, 2006 I've never heard of pirates drinking coffee before, but low and behold Brazil is now the biggest exporter of coffee and that's only a hop skip and jump from the Caribbean. Well the northern coast of Brazil is... Quote
Scouty Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 The island where the booty is coffe beans :-P . I can't see those big leaves for swapms whatsoever, I see them alot for more tropical climates. Quote
