August 11, 201311 yr Also ordered the mad proffessor and the frankenstein monster to go with it, and i will somehow replace the sun blocking machine in the vampire castle with a frankenstein machine in it, as i personally don't care about the monsters fighters storyline. (all the hero's and their vehicles i don't display) Also get the haloween accessory set 850487, it's a nice addition to the theme. Now i only need the ghost train and zombies to complete the series, but with the train i have doubts about getting your money's worth, and zombies is a limited edition set that goes for outrageous prices now, so i definatly won't jump on that unless the price is right. The Mad Scientist set looks good kind of mixed in and displayed with the Vampires Castle. As if it is just more of the ruins. I also do the same thing as you and pretty much ignore the "heroes" and their vehicles. The Train is kinda either way. It's a nice little 4-4-0 Engine with a really neat motif. The cars however are kind of meh. The Ghosts would be fantastic, if they didn't also come in 3 other sets. How many do you need? On the positive side the plane is by far the best of the Monster Fighters vehicles. I wish you luck finding the Zombie set. It is one of the best of them. The Zombie Bride and Groom are must haves. Perhaps the best figs of the series. The little crypt is a great build. (The steam tractor McHammer truck however is once again pointless.) Edited August 11, 201311 yr by Faefrost
August 11, 201311 yr The werewolf set was cheap enough, but the only parts i was interested in, was the werewolf itself. The tree? meh. Car with monster fighter? meh. The set does have some nice parts for building trees tho. The haunted house on the other hand... Wow. No pesky monster fighter hero's, and a ton of bricks. The build itself was not as much fun as the castle, but the end result is so much more rewarding. I highly reccomend it if you want to do a haloween display. Also the house has less of a tendency to fall apart if you want to move it. Oh, and the best part: My parents loved it! The herse? Has some flaws, but it looks so darn good that i've ordered an other set today! (it was on sale) Also ordered the mad proffessor and the frankenstein monster to go with it, and i will somehow replace the sun blocking machine in the vampire castle with a frankenstein machine in it, as i personally don't care about the monsters fighters storyline. You sound like my likes/dislikes with these sets. I do have the accesories set - love the witch - she looks kinds like the Wizard of Oz Wicked Witch of the West! I, too, am not into the Moster Fighters storyline, but love the classic horror movies and some of these sets complement that interest. Also love castles like my daughter (the seven yr old) and SHE REALLY LOVES the Vampyre Castle. I actually think the car from the Werewolf set and the motorcycle from the Hearse set would go well with "Pharaoh's Quest" or an Ancient Egypt theme from the 20's. I was thinking of perhaps using them for that some day. Not really into the train - I like trains, but besides the engine, I"m not too much of a fan - and the fact that it would need a lot of modification to run on track and be motorized... The Zombie set looks great, but yeah, not willing to pay that price for it. I love your idea for Frankenstein! I can picture those movies from the 30's - The BRide of Frankenstein was brilliant! Her HISS was just too funny in that movie! Yes, would LOVE to get the Haunted House - wish it wasn't so pricey, but there you are. Will hopefully get it - I'm sure once it's retired it will go for CRAZY prices!!!! I'll probably wait until Sept to purchase anything - spent too much already for some other sets!

The plane might look good, but i'll probably build it once, and then take it apart and store it so it does not have that much value for me. Eventually i will get the train, if i can find it somewhere on sale. You can still find the zombie set on ebay, but $100 for a set like that is just outrageous.... I'll just keep an eye out, maybe i can get it cheaper and yes, the zombie bride and groom are really must haves.... But at current prices i'm not going to buy it. @ Zula: Definatly get the vampire castle for your daughter, unlike the haunted house it has lots of play features and i'm sure she'll love all of them! The haunted house has no play features at all, besides the pin on the side to drop the attic ladder down. Lots of details though, but i feel this set was made with AFOL's in mind. It's not cheap, but with over 2000 pieces it's worth the money i think.
August 11, 201311 yr The train has a lot of glow in the dark items, which is good. The train itself is pretty cool, the follow cars indeed somewhat bland.
August 12, 201311 yr Author Relevant to your conversation, I previously put all my Monster Fighters stuff together after building the Haunted House (only a 12 month wait after originally doing this review...) Just imagine a Lego built background & scenery, it would look excellent! Edited August 12, 201311 yr by Artanis I
August 12, 201311 yr My 11 year old daughter loves this line and has every Monster Fighters set...if you build and put all of them together, it makes a really nice motif, but I was a bit surprised that they have discontinued the line but understand it's a limited market...she was so hoping they would do some sort of Invisible Man set...great reviews and pics I have to say I personally agree with a lot of the comments...the car on Zombies makes no sense to me, a lot of ghosts, etc.

Much like we saw the Dr. Splitz figure and the other MF type monsters.
August 27, 201311 yr Out of all the monster fighters sets this one has to be favourite set. I mean I thought it was really really good, and to say how much it cost for the amount of pieces we get in the set makes me love it even more.
August 27, 201311 yr Brickwise, it's not that awesome, lots of castle wall plates that would only become usefull if you are building a bigger vampire castle. (working on that... ) Minifig wise, its a good deal, but the monster fighter's "hero's" and their car don't apeal to me that much. Overall looks however are just splendid, same as the extra bits and furniture. But considering this was not released as an AFOL toy, i think kids would love it! Parts wise, some AFOL's might be a bit dissapointed, but overall it's a very nice set.

August 30, 201311 yr Has anyone seen any examples of combining 2 castles to make one large one? I am going to build one copy this weekend and I have another copy on the way. If I can determine a way to make it a modular build so I can add the other that would be ideal, otherwise I may have to disassemble and combine. After reading about difficulties moving I may look at building it on a 48x48 grey baseplate. Thanks, Andy D

While I otherwise can't stand the MF "good guy" cars, the one in this set stands out Just because it is such a delightful parts assortment all by itself. All those nice sand green pieces. Also the net while a worthless play feature, has many uses as set dressing.
August 30, 201311 yr I agree on the net... But the car is not that interesting to me at all. I has some interesting parts, but not that much. Maybe i will find a use for those sand green slopes, but currently i don't have any purpose for them. @ Andy D: How is this for a castle? Still a WIP tho...
August 31, 201311 yr Thank you! But i still need to improve alot... Been busy today with the castle, but unfortunatly i don't have enough bricks to complete this anytime soon.

September 1, 201311 yr So in the last 2 days, I have bought the castle, the crazy scientist, werewolf and swamp monsters sets to go with the haunted house I already had.
September 1, 201311 yr Very nice! I will be watching as you complete it! Is this fom the 9468 Vampire Castle? Thanks for sharing this. Andy D Partially, since the castle doesnt have much bricks in the set. I will need to get another castle for parts though. For other parts i've bought some LOTR/Hobbit sets, and the kingdoms 70404 kings castle. (mainly for the doors and gate) The LOTR sets 9472 attack on weathertop and 9474 the battle for helms deep give nice bricks for rockscaping, some arches, and those horses in 9474 are just perfect for a horse powered herse. Helm's deep has loads of light grey bricks to build with. I'll probably order some other bricks from bricklink since this castle is only half of what i am planning to build... (i have 2 large grey baseplates) Maybe i'll start a WIP topic, if that's allowed. Btw, check out the work of this guy in the special lego themes forum: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=84706 Edited September 1, 201311 yr by Jorrith

Can't wait to see what you do with the horses and whatever else you plan to build.

I seem to remember numerous WIP threads and I would really like to see how your castle progreess, so... Do start a WIP thread. BTW: be sure to PM me when you do I don't want to miss it. Andy D
September 1, 201311 yr Thank you both, but i recon it's time to start a new thread instead of discussing it in this review thread. (allthough very pleasant, it's a bit offtopic) Today i have done some work to the castle, but basicly i'm starting from scratch all over. I don't have enough bricks to build a full grey plate so i'm taking the modular route, like TLG builds its castles... Building the gate first, and the rest will follow... but that will be for the WIP topic.. I'll let you know when i have started it Andy D.
September 1, 201311 yr This and The Haunted House are 2 of my family's favourite sets! My kids and I play with these pretty frequently, and with Fall and Halloween coming up soon, these sets are only going to see more use. I have actually been toying with the idea of building a 1950's era flying saucer just to expand upon the Universal Monsters-type feel of the MF sets. Something reminiscent of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" or more recently, "Mars Attacks!"

IF you do, please post pictures!!!!
September 2, 201311 yr I haven't gotten round to buying these sets, and from the look of all the enthusiasm I must say I wish I would've gotten them sooner, really cool sets and a great review.
