I haven't been that long into Lego, but from the last 4 years I'd say the worst is the Republic Striker-class Starfighter. I'm torn on the Starhopper, but I think it looks better than the Striker-class.

I am an AFOL that recently got back into it (2009) from my childhood years. I am not a fan of http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=5002514-1. It just seems boring to me. It's the only set I have seen that I don't want to buy.

LMW

I thought the same at first, but my son recently picked this up at Legoland and its actualy quite a nice set. An interesting modular build and some nice jedi and sith characters. Im an OT fan too, but luckily my 9yr old is a clone wars fan so between us we get the best of both worlds

I'm not much of a complainer, and I find positive notes in almost all of the sets I buy; however, there are definitely some sets that make me scratch my head and say, "what were they thinking?"

  • 6205 - V-Wing. This is a bargain basement set, it has half of an astromech droid; a canopy that isn't hinged; and a generally cheap feel to the set. Not a big fan
  • 4492 - Mini Star Destroyer. This is a poorly designed set, it appears the designer only glanced at the film shots of a Star Destroyer. The conning tower looks like it's backwards, the rear angle plates are all wrong, and what's up with the gun on the bow? The newer polybag ISDs are much better.
  • 7660 - N1 w/Vulture Droid. I needed an N1 for my collection and had high hopes, but was disappointed with this set. It is sorely lacking in detail, and the droid fighter is just a horrible design; the flick-fire missles fall out and get in the way when moving the legs around.

That being said, these are just opinions. I've seen some people say they don't like sets that I found fantastic; and I'm sure there are fans out there who will disagree with my observations on these three sets.

In my opinion there are several sets which I quite disliked: The 2011 advent calender because there were some awful builds such as the tie fighter.

- jabbas palace 2002 because it looked nothing like it and the trapdoor led into the droid area.

-the twilight because there was no interior.

Update 13 June 2013: As with the minifigs topic, we don't really need separate threads for best and worst sets -- the two subjects are very similar, so you can use this thread for both. I've edited the title to reflect this. Thanks! :classic:-Brickdoctor

I like the look of the "X wing + A Wing" thing and plus it has great minifigs

Favourite out of the ones I own definitely has to be the new RGS, the design of it is perfect. I also really like the 2011 MF, despite its flaws I still think its a really good set!

My top 3 SW sets are hard to narrow down, I like so many. But if I have to make a decision I would say:

  • My absolutely favorite set is 10188 - Death Star. Yes, it is expensive, but it is totally worth it. 3,800+ pieces, 24 minifigures, some excellent pieces, plus a fantastic build that takes a very long time. The set is well designed, incorporating so many iconic scenes from the movies. It is a fantastic conversation piece and everyone who sees my collection is immediately drawn to it. My only gripe with this set is that instead of a droid repair bay there should have been a mini trench and thermal exhause port.
  • Deciding on #2 was tough, having a number of sets I really like. But i settled on 8129 - AT-AT. I got this set on BL in the first months after my Dark Ages and waited almost a year to put it together. It was well worth the wait; I'm a huge Battle of Hoth fan and the AT-AT is the centerpiece. This set is really well designed, and comes with great minifigures. I also thought it was a really cool build, despite the repetitive legs.
  • And finally set 7754 - Home One. This set got a lot of negative reviews, but I think it is really great. The build was a lot of fun, excellent and unique minifigures, and the modular design allows plenty of MOCing. Plus, since it is not a popular set I was able to snag a MISB example for well under MSRP.

Ummmmm, how about the first Vulture Droid 7111? That was pretty bad even for 1999...

I think that looked like one of the best 1999 sets after Lightsaber Duel and Mos Espa Podrace

Out of all the sets I have, my favorite is probably the Battle of Endor set. It has an unmatched value for its price. Second would have to be the new Geonosis clone battle pack- I adore the droidekas and the new clone design.

Least favorite is probably the old Twin-Pod Cloud Car- I always regretted getting that instead of Ewok Attack. After that, it'd have to be the T-6 Jedi Shuttle (although I spell "Shuttle" a bit differently, it's so bad)- that thing had no redeeming value beyond the Shaak Ti minifig. (Speaking of which, we really need a non-CW version of her...)

If your where to ask me what year was the best LEGO Star Wars release, it'd be 2005 Episode 3's sets. The price, value, quality, and play was all there.

Agreed, 2005 was amazing. You could get ten minifigures in just a $50 set, including Darth Vader and the Emperor (Imperial Inspection) Nearly all the sets were amazing, the only poor one I can think of was the droid tri-fighter. Too bad I started collecting lego star wars sets in 2008, after all the 2005 sets were gone.

Now of course there are A LOT of star wars sets to choose from, and I never really thought of one being the "best" star wars set ever, but if I were to choose one, especially one that came out in recent years, it would have to be the ewok village. The figures are great, the entire set looks magnificent on display, and contains a lot of fun playability features.

However the worse set won't be too difficult to choose, and I've seen other people on here say it: The Twilight. The set is a giant box with drab pieces costing you $100. The features are ok, but the figures are available in smaller and better quality sets. Overall a horrible set. I would have chose the starhopper instead, but at the very least it includes decent parts and figures that are exclusive, like a special edition set should have,

What's wrong with the Naboo starfighter set from 2007? It seemed pretty cool to me.

The Vulture Droid fell apart and whenever you put the starfighter down, the missile would launch.

I like the new AT-TE and Gunship, but I don't have either, so I can't judge.

My favorite SW set that I own would be Jabba's Palace.

Least favorite is the Rancor Pit (by itself, it looks great connected to the Palace)

I see, I don't own it but from most reviews I have heard other people complain about that missile launching on the stand too. So if I were to purchase a Naboo Starfighter, the 2011 version would be the best one, right?

I've been collecting the sets since 2000, so it's a weird tradeoff between which ones have sentimental value, and which ones are really just better models. The "worst" ones are harder to pick for me (EP4 and 5 in particular) because I can find redeeming qualities in almost every set.

Best

I: Mos Espa Podrace: Great memories of building this with my family and playing with this set for hours as a kid. The 2011 podracers look better, but this one was quite a set back then.

II: Jango Fett's Slave I: Huge improvement over the original Boba Fett Slave 1 which had come out only 2 years prior. Jango himself was an awesome figure for his time.

CW: Republic Fighter Tank: I had never thought Lego would make one of these, but the CW series made it possible. They hit it out of the park on this one.

III: ARC-170 (2010): This one improved on the original in almost every way (bigger engines, longer guns, better minifigs, great sticker details). One of the best remakes ever.

IV: TIE Fighter (2012): Killer assortment of figures (like all the 2012 fighters) for a set that wouldn't necessarily call for them. Credit to Lego for ditching the old TIE windscreen, too.

V: AT-AT (2003): The original has stood the test of time. The pilot and snowtroopers were a great surprise, and except for the sides of the head, a very stable build worthy of the name.

VI: The Battle of Endor: I consider this to be a perfect set. Great figure assortment, and the unlikely combination of accuracy and great play features. My most favorite of all.

EU: Sith Fury-Class Interceptor: This was an unprecedented amount of care for an EU set. Natural progression from the quality of the Rogue Shadow.

Worst

I: Sith Infiltrator (2007) Better than the old one (being fair to the age of the original), but man did Lego go overboard with the curved slopes. The 2011 set ended up making up for it.

II: Jedi Duel: More or less just a vehicle for the Dooku and (then) new Yoda figs. Dooku's brown speederbike is oddly in sand blue. For a big lightsaber duel, this set is quaint at most.

CW: T6 Shuttle: The design seems kinda stale. It's a little unfair because Lego didn't have much to work with, but it almost looks like a 2000-2001 era set.

III: General Grievous Chase. The new molds really did a number on this set's value. Grievous' cape was just about the best thing about the whole set. My very least favorite.

IV: TIE Fighter & Y-wing (2004 reissue): Cheap shot, I know. It retconned in the 10131 TIE X1, but hung onto the old Y-wing. The whole '99 wave had been remade except for the Y-wing.

V: Battle of Hoth: If you've missed previous Hoth sets, its a great recap. If not, it's an obstacle to get to the General Rieekan minifig. The '03-style Snowspeeder also needs to be retired.

VI: AT-ST (2007): Indicative of the cheap, empty feeling of the 2007 wave (especially after how great 2006 was). The first AT-ST was worse, but it gets a pass because of its age.

EU: TIE Defender: Admirable choice on Lego's part, and introduced the great new TIE helmet, but the ship itself seems really blocky and awkward.

I would half disagree with the Jedi shuttle, the figures were good and the design was pulled off quite nicely, the rest of your sets, I would agree.

My most favorite is the slave 1...the recent version. It looks so turue to the movie. The worst has to be the twight. It would of been better to just slap four wheels on it amd make it an all-terrain vehicle.

Not sure. I refrained from buying it thinking that we might have the same problem.

The only problem for me was TCW variant of Saesee Tiin. It looked horrible.
