TheRacker Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 What is so bad about the Technic R2-D2? I have that set and love it, I thought all the technic star wars models were really cool. But maybe that's just because I'm a huge technic fan as well. Quote
Anio Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 I just can't fathom how a professional designer produced the original Falcon, Slave 1, MTT or Sith Infiltrator. Easy. Consider the elements (no slope curved, very few wedges, for example) and the palette of colors available at the time, and you will figure out why the sets were the way they were. Quote
Stauder Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 The 7676 Republic Attack Gunship (2008) bugged me because it did not have the "pod guns" on the side. The only reason I got it was because I found it for $35. That version of the gunship is not meant to have the pod guns, instead it has forward doors for space flight. Quote
GuyDudeMan27 Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 That version of the gunship is not meant to have the pod guns, instead it has forward doors for space flight. With my 2013 version I have the best of both worlds with modded gun pods and front doors. Quote
samurai-turtle Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 That version of the gunship is not meant to have the pod guns, instead it has forward doors for space flight. First off I know that. I just wish they gave us that option to have them on or off. If you look at the set better we have a choice of witch set of stickers to put on the front part. Quote
Tradeworld Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 In terms of ones I own, I would say 7674 V-19 fighter. The ship looks OK deployed, but due to a dodgy mechanism, it looks mostly like a chicken when landed. The mechanism also has no lock so It can't stay in flight mode very well. Also only 1 minifig, quite unexciting for the size of the set. Quote
YellowCorvette Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 (edited) 'Bad' sets are really anything before 2005. I just can't fathom how a professional designer produced the original Falcon, Slave 1, MTT or Sith Infiltrator. My pick for worst set has to the TIE Bomber. It's just inexplicable - even a child would have got the colour right (blue! It's all blue!). It looks exactly like the creations I made at age 6. There still has some good pre-2005 Star Wars sets too.An example will be 10030 UCS ISD at 2002.The build is exciting and the final result is quite big and amazing. And yes,the TIE Bomber has the wrong color, but Black,Trans-Black,Dark Grey and Medium Stone Grey will be a very boring color scheme that will make it a very boring set. YellowCorvette Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 (edited) What is so bad about the Technic R2-D2? The problem with 8009 R2-D2 is the build steps itself is silly and sometimes make no sense. As results, the model itself been ugly, barely similar to the real R2-D2,and looks unfinished. Edited July 24, 2015 by ArmstrongYong Quote
The Executive Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I think hands down the worse set is the original grass green slave I. I thought is was cool when I first saw it as a kid but soon after I bought it I realized just how crappy it was. I think I may have mentioned it before but the original x-wing was also terrible. It was so flimsy it would fall apart just by starring at it. Same goes for the multicolored mess MTT. Also some front runners, original sith infiltrator, and original jabbas palace. Quote

The 7140 has the problems that you mentioned here, but it's unavoidable because the technology at that time don't allow TLG to make the Lego bricks and parts we have today. The original Sith infiltrator, original MTT,and original Jabba Palace also been bad of the same reason, too. Edited August 9, 2015 by ArmstrongYong Quote
GallardoLU Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I am a huge fan of the Slave I ship, I even went so far as to hunt down the original 7144 earlier This year. now I am biased so I personally can not say its the worst but I will say its price complete With Figure was less than original retail... ouch... Boba Fett alone runs around 10 bucks for original grey, another 9 bucks (shipping included) for Slave I. Quote

It may look unfinished, but it's fully armed and operational. Quote

But maybe that's just because I'm a huge technic fan as well. Look at it, it's very hollow and skeletal, even in relation to the other Technic Star Wars sets. What makes this even more annoying is the fact that Lego had made a version prior to this, one of the models for 9748. Just compare: 9748: 8009: I'm a Technic fan as well, and I still think that the 8009 version sucks. Indeed, what was Lego thinking? Even without the Mindstorms stuff, 9748 would have been a much better set. And that, for me, makes 8009 the worst Star Wars set ever, because Lego had made a better version themselves, and should have been able to repeat that. Quote
James Wellington Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Easy, very easy. It has to be most of the star wars technic, and those new lego Star Wars "action figures" coming out sooner or later (the Darth Vader and Luke ones). Quote

I disagree with you on the CCBS Star Wars action figure.Because, there still has some good CCBS Star Wars action figure, like The First Order Stormtrooper that will only available at the next year. The Stormtrooper itself looks very cool and it's a good build combination of regular Lego parts and CCBS bones and shell. But maybe because I'm a Bionicle and Hero Factory fans. JPN366 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Not sure what I would consider the worst, but I have had some funny ideas for sets that could be considered the worst. Maybe "rejected ideas" if you will. It would be funny if they made a Death Star microfighter with a Tarkin minifigure. Quote

From a certain point of view. in a way true, but for it to even be close to the scale of the other micro fighters it would still need to be somewhere around 1500 foot diameter. (size based on at-at micro fighter scale) based on that I'd say the DS playset is a Nano-fighter Quote

DarthHank Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Excluding pre-2005 sets and any non-normal sets, I think my least favorite would have to be the new MTT. Never have I gotten so excited about a set name and been so disappointed when I saw the picture. I would like to defend the MHC. It looks almost exactly like it should, and it comes with Umbarans! It's actually one of my favorite clone wars sets. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's my least favorite, but the recent Naboo security speeder is rather unpleasant. I think it's decent, and I got it to complete my Naboo scene and get the figures, but it's nothing special. Another poor one, I have to agree, is the starhopper. As others have said, it should have had Zygerrians. I actually rather liked the clone wars, but that ship was a poor choice for a set, and was executed as poorly as expected. In order for it to look good it should have been >500 pieces. It was too blocky as well. I will admit I don't own it, so I don't know how good the speeder drop feature is, but I doubt it can counteract its other failings. Quote
