CMP Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Your welcome! I was afraid it's either miss something out, or have Thothwicks prejudices bleed into my analysis! The only mistake is that I didn't opt for perma-death in Quest 53, though I was considering just doing it if Atramor got KO'd as part of some sort of awesome Special Mirror effect. Quote

Endgame Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Thothwick (Professor Flitwick) Thothwick is a very unique character. Barring the fact he is the only metasimian hero amongst heroica's ranks, he was the first and is still the best example of the "gentleman rogue." Even as a Black Knight, whose shield skill is literally "Arrogant Prick", Thothwick has always proven kind and generous - even donating a whopping 70 gold to a fellow metasimian in need. The only people Thothwick's generosity doesn't extend to is the riches, the Black Knight having an intense hatred for them. Not surprising, considering one of his greatest failures was the disappearance of Bluto: All thanks to the conniving witch, Baba. This quirk accompanies and contrasts his kind demeanor very well, making Thothwick both an interesting and a believable character. Quote
Zepher Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 He also is Hoptet's lover. I always consider that an important character trati - he and Hoptet have one of the quietest but most successful relationships in Heroica. I'll probably do these at some point soon, they're very cool so far! Quote
Flipz Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Sorrow (Endgame) Sorrow is a revenant undead with a Deadpan Snarker alter ego by the name of Syntax--an alter ego that is the literal manifestation of his guilt and sorrow. Killed in a fire as a very young child, he was revived by his necromancer "father" using the Antimutilav, a dangerous Scroll with horrific consequences if used improperly. Sorrow originally looked and (for the most part) aged like any other human being, but when his "father" was Sealed, he began to decay--leading to his fiancée's discovery of his condition and him having to leave. He spent the next four hundred years wallowing in guilt and pain as he searched for the man who ruined his master--until he joined Heroica, and found new purpose in his life. Sorrow is heavily driven by his past; though he does not often bring it up himself, anything that reminds him of his past (or manages to sufficiently tick him off) is liable to bring out Syntax, necessitating an explanation when he calms down enough for Sorrow to maintain control. Unlike most of the split personalities in Heroica, Sorrow and Syntax are very clearly aspects of the same personality, with Syntax taking certain negative qualities and driving them to extremes. Both Sorrow and Syntax are possessed of a sarcastic, biting wit that they are willing to unleash upon pretty much anyone who provokes them in the slightest. Sorrow has also proven himself to be an excellent tactician, both as a party leader and as a consultant to those who lead him. Of the Assassins in Heroica, Sorrow best represents the "Vanilla" Assassin; no cause, no theme, no gimmicks, just pure, clean efficiency. Quote
Zepher Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Arthur (Flipz) Arthur is one of the heroes in the Hall with the most convoluted and complicated past... so I'll just try to hang onto the basics. Arthur is one of the most intensive personalities in the Hall. He is obsessive over his ideas, and often has in the past attempted to push them onto others. He talks for long periods of time about the things that he believes in, and is prone to speech giving. Arthur could, in some senses, be considered close-minded, though in truth he pays attention to all pleas and is at the very least interested in all other views on subjects. He is also recognized as a brilliant strategist. Arthur is a scroll mage, an adequate field for him considering his stride for knowledge. For a long time, Arthur was dogged by his past and his ties to Chaos, but as of late he seems to have let those two things go, moving forward and embracing order. For a short time, he also seemed willing to throw his life away, but he has (perhaps?) come back from that edge. Arthur maintains good relationships with a number of heroes - Dyric and Dek'ra are chief among his friends (the first only recently, the second for a long time). Arthur is one of the most hopeful heroes in the hall: not in his demeanor, but from an audience's perspective. He embodies the human experience: he is stubborn, he is pig-headed, forceful, ambitious, obsessive, aggressive... but even with all these negative traits, he still is at his heart a learner - he has infinite admiration for new and exciting knowledge. He is able to synthesize the things he learns, and actively uses them to improve himself. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Lord Lawrence Boomingham (Zepher) Lord Lawrence Boomingham entered Heroica Hall destined for glory, which is somewhat ironic since he had until just recently failed to participate in any quests that could be considered glorious. Never the less, Boomingham quickly became one of the most well recognized and generally amiable heroes in the hall. To pen the many qualities of Boomingham would take an age, yet there are a few things that set him apart from your general run of the mill grizzled warrior. Firstly, Boomingham's backstory, while familiar in its inclusion of the tragic loss of his wife, children, kingdom, and general former glory and status, differs drastically in its cause. No sneaking villain or secret conspiracy played a part in bringing the old king such pain and loss, no, it was simply the passage of time, a thing that no mortal could ever fight nor hope to reap vengeance upon. Instead of being weighed down by his past, Boomingham bravely presses onward and upwards through every situation he confronts, his charisma and brash attitude designating him a leader and force to be reckoned with by both PC's and NPC's alike. Boomingham is not just a bunch of long winded talk though, he has positioned himself into the acquiring of a fairly hand set of equipment that allows him to take on a variety of enemies whilest always protecting his party from the front lines, whether he is conscious of this effect or merely wishes to just be closer to the action in order to do the most damage we might not ever know. While bold and boisterous on the battlefield, Boomingham has occasionally revealed a softer side during his dealings with the fairer sex and the downtrodden, more often as a fatherly or beneficiary figure rather than a lover or messiah, some of his best moments have included interactions with PC's Nyx (Pandora) and Ellaria (Sandy) and NPC's such as Plod the grumpkin and Servus the slave. Boomingham's choice of Paladin as an advanced class and his subsequent dealings with his guardian angel further support his complexity as an individual, as he has shown little care for the dogma of religion and always more for the enjoyment and laxness of life, much to the chagrin of his overseeing angelic companion. Boomingham truly embodies the human condition, the realistic mixture of vices and virtues, of faults and ideals, of reflecting on the losses of the past while continually striving for the glory of the future. This drunkard, womanizing, racist, sell sword is at the same time one of the most compassionate, courageous, and selfless heroes ever to grace the halls of Heroica. One can only guess at where his future will lead, but one can be sure of the fact that where ever it is, Boomingham will be charging full steam ahead into it, swords drawn, epic speech on his tongue, at the ready for whatever the world or QM will throw at him and his Party. Flare Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Is it just me or did Masked Builder / Alexis get skipped? I'd feel comfortable doing a summary for her but I don't know if that will work or not. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Is it just me or did Masked Builder / Alexis get skipped? I'd feel comfortable doing a summary for her but I don't know if that will work or not. Flitwick and Masked both posted reviews for the same hero by accident, and Endgame decided to review Thothwick instead of Alexis. Masked should review another character, and then Alexis can be reviewed. Quote

Peppermint_M Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Skrall is unique among Heroica as the only Ogre member, joining for coin to support an ex-wife and children. He makes no bones about joining for an ignoble cause and will take this level headed approach into battle. A former brigand and highway robber he came into conflict with a Heroica Quest party long ago, facing Wren during her Heroica days. Emancipation of the Orcish and Ogre races is one of the few causes this stalwart hunter has time for. In short: Skrall is a good leader, a tactician at times and a cool head in a fraught situation. (Gosh, that was harder than I thought!) Quote
UsernameMDM Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Tesni Hightribe This fearless female warrior from the mountains does not shy away from battle. Harnessing a sinister power simmering beneath the surface, Tesni crashes headlong into each battle with abandon, cutting down foe after foe with her fierce array of bladed weapons. Though she now carries a magical flaming sword she plundered from the bandit's pagoda, her pride and joy remains to be her dark blade Cysgodion. This blade seems to fan the purple flame that swirls in her eye. She is also the first hero to claim one of the mysterious dark orbs known as a Zoot's Plaything. If she is on the field of battle, make sure that you are on her side. Quote

Flipz Posted May 29, 2013 Author Posted May 29, 2013 If this were a competition, I think you'd all be chasing WBD right now. Well, except for the fact that I can't use his summary of Boomingham as-is on the Characters page on TV Tropes, which is sort of a drag since Boomingham is the one I need a blurb for most. Quote

He just vastly prefers their wallets to their owners! Other than that, it's great, apart from one missing character detail... He also is Hoptet's lover. I always consider that an important character trati - he and Hoptet have one of the quietest but most successful relationships in Heroica. There it is! Cheers Endgame & Zepher! It's really quite reassuring to hear what others think of your character. Quote
Endgame Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 How did I...? That is supposed to say "witch!" Which Thothwick most certainly despises. Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 How did I...? That is supposed to say "witch!" Which Thothwick most certainly despises. Ah, that explains why I had to re-read Quest 14 to see where Baba amassed all of her wealth from. Makes much more sense now, and moves it from a 'good' summary to a 'great' one! Quote
