Kintobor Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Hey, that was pretty good! I liked it! That moustached character, the Emcee, will be showing up a lot more I imagine. I just haven't found a place to use him. At this point, he could either be a straight figment of her imagination, a ghost, or hell, perhaps some connection to the Spirit Pools Arthur likes to go on about. He was going to appear in 70 with two ladies singing... well, "Two Ladies" from Cabaret to reflect the "strange bedfellows" Karie had made, but it never transpired. Quote

LordoftheNoobs Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Thanks for the kind words about Grimwald, do you know I actually thought he was rather plain and as such was getting bored with him but now I see what others see in him so now I don't feel that way anymore. Quote

Kintobor Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) Would someone like to do a proper review of Jeaux? Actually, Palathadric, your post fails at being a Haiku. Here, let me help you. Pyrovisionary Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I'll do it. Though I am VERY bad at this sort of thing. It'll take me a while. Quote

Flipz Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) "Oh, thank the gods we were able to save you good people, and stick it to those inky devils....!" With that, Grimwald falls to the floor, exhausted. He slowly puts his hand in the air, signalling that he was alright. "I-I'm fine, j-j-just give me f-five minutes... ZZzzzZZZzz....." That was perfect. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call in comedy "timing". Also a good example of comic relief--buoying the tone so as to increase the variety of emotion present in the work, which increases audience engagement and promotes re-readability. QMs can't effectively force this, unfortunately, which puts the onus on players to realize when things are getting too grimdark or too zany and adjust their characters' actions accordingly. Endgame Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Yeah, if Sylph hadn't started saying Eidolon's name wrong, 48 would've been borderline soul crushing. Thanks for the bit of relief, LordOfTheNoobs - you're getting a free heal for that o! (You're gonna need it...) Quote

StickFig Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) I just want to point out (from a character development perspective) how awesome @Waterbrick Down's parting gifts from Quest 90 were. I have no idea how common it is to give items like that at the end of a quest, but the Fireball Extraordinaire was exceptionally well done, I think. I have had Matthias complain throughout the quest (and even before) about his weapon, and apparently some of the NPCs (who later gave Matthias the cannon) heard and remembered. At one point in the quest, Matthias is awed by the idea of sky flowers (fireworks), setting him up to use explosive ordnance - like cannons. And while the Fireball Extraordinaire wasn't explicitly mentioned in the quest until Matthias received it, WBD gave the cannon a name that is 1) not generic, 2) doesn't try to be too "epic", and 3) provides Matthias with a link back to his very first quest experience - and one that he's likely to carry for a long time, given the extra powers of the cannon. Additionally, the "Slowed-" effect, which marginally reduces the value of the cannon, has made it pretty easy for me to characterize Matthias' movements since he got it: he's a tiny gnome, carrying (in his HANDS) a cannon big enough to fire a grumpkin out of. Kudos and gratitude to WBD for that, just one small part of a great quest. Edited June 22, 2014 by nstickney Quote
Kintobor Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Time for a topic boost. More often than not, as we portray our characters, we begin to realize they may seem familiar to other characters we've seen in other media. So, the question is: who does your character remind you of as of right now? Quote

StickFig Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) More often than not, as we portray our characters, we begin to realize they may seem familiar to other characters we've seen in other media. So, the question is: who does your character remind you of as of right now? Me. Same here. Sometimes I feel like that's cheating - like I could make a character so much more interesting by making him not me. Isn't that the point of a roleplaying game? Other than the fact that Matthias is a little clumsy, I sometimes think of his personality like the otters in the Redwall series by Brian Jacques - sometimes playful and definitely peaceful as a baseline but unafraid able to swallow his fear and join battle with a smile on his face. Every douchebag jock guy seen on TV. Remind me not to go on quests with that guy.... Edited May 31, 2014 by nstickney Quote
Kintobor Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I won't chastise those who said their character reminds them of themselves: sometimes a character is created by blowing a personality trait you have out of proportion. However, I was hoping for more media based characters from books, television and the like. At this point, Karie reminds me of Helga from Hey Arnold. Both have personalities they hide inwards while showing off a different exterior persona, (with Helga, she's rude, snarky while hiding her emotions about Arnold who she's desperately in love with, with Karie, she's snarky and seductive while hiding her emotions around her failures and her insecurities with herself) and both also had neglect in their childhood in some form. (Helga's older sister was the favourite in the family, and Helga was often forgot about, Karie got similar treatment but from one of the parent figures.) Also, they both have Bronx accents. Quote

Waterbrick Down Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Skrall, I picture as an amalgamation of Krunch from the Looking For Group web-comic and Mr. Gibbs from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and as always voiced by Sean Connery. Quote
