Well, I live in Montreal, Canada, and I visited MANY small mom&pop toy stores, and they ALL have told me the SAME thing: they are reluctant to store LOTR sets because of the lackluster sales of POTC (and Prince of Persia). Their words, not mine.

They also all said: "Maybe when The Hobbit comes out."

I hardly agree. Respectfully no trolling about it, US sales of Lego are HUGE. US is the largest consumer on earth. With 7 sets of lego selling every second I would hardly claim US isnt a demographic. I have found no shortage of LOTR and I had a really hard time getting my QAR POTC set. It was sold out of every retailer in South Eastern Idaho and the surrounding areas all the way to Salt Lake City Utah. I called trust me. smaller areas with a lack of retailer power will of course have a harder time keeping a large stock. If your that driven for the sets I would say talk to your local lego buying outlets and I know Walmart will do in store pickup for sets out of stock in their retail locations from other Walmarts free of charge.

side note - My town is less then 80 thousand people and is considered rural in one of the most sparsely populated states in the union. No less then 9 places to buy lego at so look around and check out price matching.

So, every castle-themed wave since the very beginning in the 80's had a castle (or big fortress) as the main flagship of the line, correct?

So if Lego stays true to this, then it pretty much guarantees Minas Tirith as the 2nd wave's flagship set. Whether it will be bigger than Helm's Deep or not is left to find out.

I dunno. The Black Gate, or the Shire, or Isengard, would all make very interesting flagship sets.

And the second wave of Kingdoms had a barn as the flagship set. A pretty awesome barn of course, with a windmill included, but hardly a castle or fortress. So I don't think we can make much predictions about the future based on that. Besides, there's more or less no castles in The Hobbit so probably the Hobbit wave will be castle-less too.

Theres no fortess in the book, but there could be depending on how they design mirkwood elf city and misty mountain dwarf city(where Smaug lives)

BUT the movie involves the white council wich deals with Dol goldur(?) wich should be a fortress like thing.

Seeing as the Battle of Five Armies takes place in the valley outside the gates of Erebor, that will most likely become a flagship set for the second film. As for Goblin Town and Thranduil's Halls, I'm unsure. I have a feeling that Goblin Town is more likely to become a big set because, between it and Thranduil's Halls, more action happens there.

I really can't wait to see what the Mirkwood elves look like. I love Legolas's clothes, so if all of the Mirkwood elves have clothes designed like Legolas, I will be very happy!

I was mostly thinking about the first Hobbit wave, though now I see I didn't write so. A set like "The Gates of Erebor" centered on the Battle of Five Armies could very well be the flagship set of the (all but certain) second Hobbit wave. Erebor is of course a frigging mountain (not something to make a Lego set from), but I suppose even just the gates or so could have enough fortifications in the film to justificate a big Lego structure that could be called a castle or fortress. But we won't see Erebor until movie part 2. Of Dol Guldur I'm not sure whether it will be in the first or the second film, so it could be a flagship set. Depends on how it is portrayed and how much time is spent on it in the film. Personally I think they would rather choose some scene more centered on Bilbo's journey. I wouldn't say a mountain is beyond LEGO's ability to make. They effectively created a pyramid for the Pharaoh's Quest theme. If Erebor were to be tackled similarity, with one side showing the outside and the back focusing on interior details, LEGO could do a really good job.

I'm pretty sure winter waves never feature large sets like that,

and since it's been hinted at that we may be getting LOTR sets along with The Hobbit sets as well,

they may do another mixed one for next summer. (To cover up most (if not all) of the first Hobbit movie sets)

The Lonely Mountain surely won’t feature much in the first movie (assuming the first movie more-or-less maps to the first half of The Hobbit).

Bilbo's Birthday Some hobbit houses ( 1-2 ), big table with a lot of LEGO food, hobbits include Bilbo, Frodo and Sam, etc. and, Gandalf, of course.

Sauron's Tower It can be 10*** set, include Sauron's Eye and Black Tower.

Destroing of Isengard 2-3 ents, Pippin and Merry, Saruman, some orcs... Destroyed buildings.

I have more ideas, but I'm too lazy to write it.

There are certainly arguments in favor of LEGO doing half LOTR and half Hobbit sets: the new movies are unproven, and COULD possibly prove unpopular. Already some people complained about the new frames-per-second format Peter Jackson is using.

People will get well used to the 48fps well before the movie is over, people have just seen bits of unifinished footage, everything will be fine.

a reason they could do both lotr and hobbit might be that they havent got enough part of the new movie to make properly this early so its better with a few lotr sets they know will be good, and just the hobbit sets they have 'got right'.

Everyone who saw rotk in cinema + alot of people who saw it on dvd after will go watch the hobbit mostly, so its wont flop in the box office either way.

I'm really hoping for Isengard, Minas Tirith, or Rivendell, though Isengard or Minas Tirith are the most likely. Also, cool corsair ship, I'm hoping for something like that or something with Haradrim and Mumakils.

It is not at all plausible that they make sets from that game. It will never happen.

The movies and this game isn't at all directly related.

Lego already does lotr sets from the movies, they would never make another type of lotr sets from a far less popular source.

It's not like they will make sets based on the old animated movies just cause it's also based on the same books.
