Oh gods, I just remembered what is hands down the most egregious ffm's ever inflicted on the public. Just wrong. That horrible little Cars set 9484 Reds Water Rescue. They replaced poor Red's water nozzle with a bloody rocket launcher!

That reminds me. The Ultimate Build Mater has a huge flick fire rocket, but I don't recall Mater have a launching rocket as part of his spy gear. I remember jet engines, but no rocket.

Been a while since I saw Cars 2 but I thought Mater had missile launcher on the side fenders?

Weathertop set has my vote. King's Carriage Ambush is pretty dumb too.

Regarding flick fire missiles, I can't get them to go any far, and they hurt your fingers after a while. The spring loaded (rubber coated) missile launchers are way better, they fire further, they destroy more Lego on impact and they don't hurt your fingers to fire. (They do take up more room though.) Of course, none of it comes anywhere near the original spring loaded cannons that shot round bricks right across the room... but in this day and age of "too dangerous" we may as well have cotton wool ball launchers that fire 2cm in distance

Actually, those spring-loaded cannons are still around. In fact, two of this year's Ninjago sets feature them. But I don't think they'd be as easy to integrate into themes like Star Wars as flick-fire missiles are. It's not as much because of safety, but because that classic cannon is cumbersome and hard to implement in non-pirate sets.

Meanwhile, we wouldn't see nearly as many flick-fires if it weren't for the fact that they can be integrated into sets of almost any shape or size without taking up much room or being too obtrusive. Personally, I typically like flick-fires a lot more when I think about what alternative features could replace them. Flick-fires can usually be removed or replaced if you really don't like them, which would be harder to do if larger, more cumbersome weapons were the standard.

Cad Bane's flick-fire headlights.

There is nothing more to be said.

That's a good argument against Weathertop. But, at least the make more sense in a spaceship than in a tower ruin.

In 9448 Samurai Mech they have a firing cannon that works quite well.

As a counterpoint to the more egregious and inappropriate placements of Flick Fire Missiles, what are some of the times or cases, where they actually seem to blend in well and work with the model or task at hand? Where do they seem most appropriate? Like most of you I mainly can't stand the things, but I do have a few sets where they do actually add to the feel and coolness factor of the set.

- General Grievous's Starfighter. As others have said, this one is just perfect. The FFM's are so cleverly and completely hidden until you want them. They feel completely and utterly organic to the ship, rather than simply bolted on for a marketing play feature.

- Agents 4 Wheel Pursuit and Agents Turbocar Chase. Just for 1 vehicle each from these sets. The super sports car and the souped up 4 wheeler. In both cases the missiles are hidden inside the trunk or rear deck, which raises up to expose them and shoot. They are mainly hidden and when they do appear it adds to the whole James Bond'ish super spy feel. A definate enhancement.

- Alien Conquest Earth Defense HQ, the dual Quad missile batteries on the roof are a good effective and non ugly use of the things. Plus you don't have to flick them. While not the greatest play feature, visually they do enhance the look and feel of the set.

So what do you all think?

I'm not sure if it counts, but the launching lightsaber in 8089 worked excellently once I got a feel for how to position it and where to hit the 2x4 tile.

I'm with Cam on this one.

Shooting projectiles are nothing new of course, especially in spaceships. Kids like to shoot stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I like shooting stuff and missiles are cool, but the flick fire ones are just useless.

I very much like the spring loaded ones that actually lock in place and then you hit a lever and the missile flies off under its own power, like on The Rogue Shadow

Is there any more ridiculous placement of a flickfire mssile? I know TLG is addicted to them (they seriously need to detox) but this is getting ridiculous.

I would gladly pay for rehab. :hmpf: Seriously LEGO, it's stupid to put flick-fire missiles in sets like Weathertop where it doesn't make any sense... :hmpf:

The missiles on the helicopter in Wolverine's Chopper Showdown are integrated into the design in a way that really makes them look like they belong there. The chopper actually looks kind of naked without them.

The 8907 Slave I has some of the most elaborate mechanisms to include FFM. THe fact that they even bothered to include 2 different kinds of FFM on 1 vehicle is interesting to me.

Agreed.

I think Weathertop and Cad Bane's headlights are the weirdest places, along with the 2009 AAT.

I heard this crazy rumor that LEGO is reconfigurable and if you don't like the placement of something, you can just move it. WHAT?!? Mind blown.

Party pooper.

They even put a flick on the Vampyre Castle for no reason default_hmpf.gif really annoying.

Actually, I think they made it to be a jumping spider.

Although flickfire missiles are okay in moderation, too many of them are rediculous. not to mention, they hurt my fingernails if you flick them...

1. AAT's secondary blasters.

2. CATD blasters

3. Avengers Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape. The missiles directly hit the wheel well.

The last ewok set had one sticking out of the middle of the tree.

The big Atlantis set had two (I think) coming out of the top of the temple pediment (I think that is what it is called.)

Those two are what came to mind for me.

The strangest flickfire missile itself in my opinion (not the location, but the missile itself) was the Ninjago villain base that had skull flickfires manned by skeletons. Think about that for a minute.

He's right I have the ewok set
