Which of the two Marvel Universes do you guys prefer? For me personally It's got to be the Ultimates, as it's more realistic, less trivial and actually seems scarily possible.

As this isn't directly related to LEGO, I'll move it to Culture & Multimedia.

I prefer the 616 universe. It's just that classic universe I grew up with, I guess. I read comics and other sci-fi/fantasy literature to imagine worlds of epic proportions and endless possibilities. My wife even calls me her "kindskopp"[1], because I like playing games like lavafloor. So you see like a five year old, I like clear cut good vs. evil stories.

I could be biased. I read some of the ultimate Spiderman and Wolverine stories and they were excellent. The bulk of my ultimate universe experience is "The Ultimates". That series is literally fubar - beyond all recognition. The characters have nothing to do with their 616 counterparts. Nothing! I mean they have they are somewhat plausible; like the Hulks uncontrollable urges and Cap's obsession with his veteran buddies. Other than that the Ultimates act random without motivation. It reads like a loose collection of police reports without a driving story.

That said I like the influence the ultimate universe had on the 616 universe and the movies. I think it's safe to say that without the ultimate universe, the movie characters wouldn't have been as emotionally convincing as they were.

[1] For the longest time I thought she meant the size of my head. A coworker of mine then led me to believe it meant retard. It actually means childish. :)

Ultimates 1 and 2 were, IMO the best comics written, but that's just me. I like the twists they spun on the chracters, and the way it was more realistic, like Hulk actually killing things, etc.

Defineatly 616, Ultimates was kinda cool at first but Ultimates 3 was just... awful, plain and simple awful! plus after that it became over gritty...

I like the 616 far better. I've read Ultimates, and some of the X-Men and Spider-man stuff, but overall it lacks some of the character of the originals. The new Spider-Man seems pretty good, but I only read the first two issues. I suppose if I had read Ultimate books first, the 616 stuff would seem less original. As far as it being more "real", I can't see it. It's all super heroes punching stuff. I like it better when writers go with it and embrace it rather than try to make it plausible. For example, I greatly prefer X-Men First Class, with it's yellow-blue costumes to the 'realistic' ones in the earlier X-Men movies.

I do like the first two Ultimates books though. The Bryan Hitch art was stunning, and the pacing solid, though I always feel a little embarrassed when I read that Captain America "This A doesn't stand for France" line.

The Brubaker Captain America, including Bucky, is a lot better take on the character.

So, I vote for 616 :sweet:

I like them both though if I had to choose one, it would be 616 as I'm a huge fan of 616 Thor.

Hmmmm, well I don't like all of the ultimates because, I frankly really don't like ultimate Iron Man, it completely screwed it up! But I do like the way Hawkeye looks, ecspiecly in the Avengers. :classic: So I have to say 616 and I like some of the designs

from ultimates. (But not Iron Man!)
