Hi

I've always thought that a Prehistoric/Stone Age theme would be pretty cool so I'm working on my own!! Called "Tribes". This is my first MOC for the series, a stone age dugout fishing boat for the River Tribe (I thought I could come up with different tribes, each based around a particular environment; river, cave, ice). I tried to make it the sort of set that TLG might actually bring out...

(I hope I've posted this in the right place!).

The whole set (boat, fisherman, river bank and crocodile)

The boat (I tried to copy the shape of a stone age dugout boat I found online... not sure about the bow but I think it looks OK) It also should be brown but I couldn't find the right parts in that colour so settled on black.

The fisherman can use his spear and net to catch dinner!

But look out for the croc!!

Alternative design for the bow of the boat.... the carved face of a river god to protect our brave fisherman on his adventures!! (need to find some of those new 1x1 round tiles in white for the eyes)

Thanks for looking, any comments are more than welcome... I'm currently working on a house for the fisherman and his family!!

First off, exellent use of CMF hippie hair. The whole 'set' is nice and well thought. The little boat is a neat build. Great job.

I would be very likelly to buy this set/theme. I'm looking forward to other creations by you. Have you thought about posting it cuusoo?

Thanks for all the comments.

Re: CUUSOO... I've only just discovered the that site but once I have a few more "sets" I might just give it a try. Should have the River Tribe family house done this week ( just waiting for parts!)

Cheers

My next "Tribes" set.... a house for a River Tribe family. (apologies for the lighting in the pics.. still need to tweak a few bits but they give a good idea of the build)

Overview of the house - built on stilts in a quiet part of the river...

fhous1.jpg

Simple wooden shelter with a roof of palm leaves...

fhouse2.jpg

Rear view

fhouse8.jpg

Removable roof for easy access. Inside you can see the sleeping area of fresh branches (for comfort and insulation) and storage basket.

fhouse3.jpg

Large hearth/fire provides warmth, light and the ability to cook the family's food...

fhouse5.jpg

Coracle allows the young boy to practice some of the skills he'll need to become a skilled fisherman...

fhouse6.jpg

Just like dad...

Comments always welcome...

Thanks for looking (more Tribes "sets" coming soon! (hopefully!!) :classic:

Interesting idea, and well executed. Looking forward to more.

The dad seems a bit too clean-shaven for a stone age guy, though!

This is a very creative and open ended idea. I would love to see Lego do a series of these sets.

I'd like to see a cave set for your theme. I tried my hand at one once, but it could still use some work.

A "Cave Tribe" is planned and their cave is beginning to take shape.... However, the next tribe is going to be a Temple Tribe (the tribe responsible for building stone circles and other structures) Here's a sneak preview of their first set (still need to work on the minifigs and a few other bits)

Thanks for looking (as always comments are more than welcome)

I would tottaly buy it! I always wanted a Caveman theme in Lego and your ideas are really great, the boat- even if black looks nice!

Aliens vs Cavemans theme, we know we all want it :D

Thanks...

I've been busy with work over the last few weeks but I've got round to finishing the latest set (previewed a couple of weeks ago)

The Temple Tribe are the masters of moving and building stone structures (a sort of stone age construction crew!). Here is their basic stone moving method... a sledge hauled on a wooden track way. The guy at the back uses a lever to help get the sledge going.

They're stronger than they look!!

The sledge

sm5.jpg

The "team" (I imagined the guy in the cape to be the boss.. the other 2 are just hired muscle... I did consider using a cow instead (and pretend it's an ox but I didn't have one - might have to get onto Bricklink!)

sm6.jpg

The next "set" will be a "stone circle building site" and we'll find out what they do with the stone blocks once they've moved them!!

As always thanks for looking and all comments are welcome

Cheers

I think you have come up with a great concept, and executed the ideas very well. My only question would be towards adding more colour. We know in the stone age colour was possible (red hand prints etc), and this would certainly help some of the builds. A dark blue-stone to match the inner henge for example.

The river hut looks good - but have you seen some of the bronze age huts recreated in Swizterland or Scotland? There daub / adobe is used, allowing the walls to have a more tan colour with brown logs etc.
