So I brought this sensor over a year ago however have only now got around to using it.

It is the Mindsensors NXTCam version 2(The new version 3 allows custom firmware, oh also seems to be a V4, will investigate). It can track up to 8 objects at a time and you can configure what colours it tracks via NXTCamView

It actually works pretty well compared to Lego Vision Command which to be fair was made years ago and was just a normal web cam. I wrote my own VB app to control that.

The main reason I am posting up about this is that I feel this sensor is not used enough in projects. Its actually very useful. I plan to put it on The T1 Robots to detect when people pass.

I would not recommend unscrewing the Lens as it breaks down in to lots of parts!

I have version 3 lying around here. I think that the sensor is a little bit too difficult to program. I didn't accept the challenge to try this sensor, too bad, because it seems to work very well!!

I have been considering buying the NXTCam sensor for quite a while now, but it does seem to be fairly complicated (and expensive).

Any idea what is the difference between the v3 and v4 cams?

Using Xander driver suite for RobotC, I found this pretty simple to code for, it returns you an array of squares that it detects and you decide what you want to do with it.

I sent an email to Mindsensors to try and understand the difference between the v3 and v4 NXTCam sensors? Here is the response in case you were also wondering:

"We are continually improving our products, and this is one of the results of that effort.

Physically, NXTCam-v4 uses better materials, it has better form factor and improved appearance.

Internally it is designed for simplified and more efficient manufacturing.

There is no change at the API interface and all the existing software and libraries

are compatible between v3 and v4 model"

Any interest in selling your NXTCam v3?

I know this is opening up an old thread...

I actually have 2 mindsensors that are brand new that I stumbled across.

One is the NXT vision Cam. The Mobo says V1.1 but I don't know if thats actually V2 or something.

I also have the RCX to NXT adapter.

If anyone is interested just PM me.
