Scorpiox Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 To our favorite toy making country. Congratulations on the big win today against the Dutch. In my opinion they played much better the whole game. Obviously the LEGO spirit was speeding them on. I'm sure somebody has made that match in LEGO already. Quote
JopieK Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Those Dutch dudes can't play soccer at all... They are overrated IMHO. And they are lazy ;) That's why I hate soccer and go for LEGOs :p Quote

Scorpiox Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Yeah...they only won the last World Cup. Lazy Dutch. Came second, actually. I trust you remember that appauling final in which the Dutch seemed to think they were in a kick-boxing tournament instead. Quote

Canada_7 Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Being an Arsenal fan, that was the worst I've seen Van Persie (his club team is Arsenal) play in a LONG time. The Danish team became much more willing to attack after their goal. Netherlands was wasting chances everywhere but they did have a few good opportunities that were stopped well by Denmark's defense. Agreed, also Robben was just going for his own glory and fame. If you play in a team, work as a team. Anyway, let's see what happens in the next match against Germany... Quote

In my opinion, the Third Place game would've been a much more entertaining final. It was the more entertaining game, IMHO. Quote
Rijkvv Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 I trust you remember that appauling final in which the Dutch seemed to think they were in a kick-boxing tournament instead. Well, for me as a Dutchman I might haven't an objective look at it, but I had the feeling that none of the finalists were playing fair back then, neither the Dutch nor the Spanish. Spain was the better team nevertheless. As for Euro 2012: I think the Netherlands will fail in reaching the quarter finals. Before the match I thought it was possible to reach the finals and maybe even win it. For now, I hardly doubt if they will reach the quarter finals. The Dutch created lots of opportunities but failed in all of them. For me it's hard to believe this was almost the same team that reached the 2010 final. I don't know if the Danish were better, but at least they scored and toke the three points. Too bad Van Bronckhorst is retired now. Quote
gedren_y Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 (edited) I'm sorry I missed it. Gotta check the next Netherlands and Denmark game times. Hopefully my sports channels will carry it. I did get to see most of the first half of the Spain/Italy game, and later the highlights. Italy held their own (1/1) and were more of an attacking force against the World Cup champions. I also caught the Ireland/Croatia game. Croatia spanked Ireland (3/1), so all the hype about their Italian coach was just that. . . hype. Edited June 10, 2012 by gedren_y Quote

I trust you remember that appauling final in which the Dutch seemed to think they were in a kick-boxing tournament instead. Oh, yes, De Jong was my favourite. In my opinion, the Third Place game would've been a much more entertaining final. It was the more entertaining game, IMHO. The third place game is always more exciting the finals: Germany-Uruguay/Germany-Portugal/Turkey-South Korea/ad infinitum. The finals are almost always cagey displays with both teams too afraid to seriously attack the other. That's why we've seen 0-0 (1-0 aet) last World Cup, 1-0 Euro Cup, 1-1 World Cup before that, etc. Third place people hardly seem to care whether they win or lose and it makes the game a whole lot more interesting and, in general, with a whole lot more goals. Too bad Van Bronckhorst is retired now. Yep, Netherlands have a tough uphill climb now, as I hardly see them winning Germany with that performance. Unfortunately, Germany were frighteningly poor in their last couple of matches, so anything could happen. I am quite confident that Denmark will beat or draw Portugal, but let's see. I still think Germany are in a good position to get through, but I've not been too impressed with them and I don't think I see them winning the Cup if they don't seriously get their act together soon. I also caught the Ireland/Croatia game. Croatia spanked Ireland (3/1), so all the hype about their Italian coach was just that. . . hype. I would hardly have called it a spanking. Croatia are ranked way above Ireland and I was very impressed with Ireland's guts and determination at the end. Honestly, I see Russia as being a team that could take the Cup this season. The big teams have all failed to impress me thus far. My only issue is that Russia may put a bit too much energy into their game. Spain have gotten boring and without Villa spearheading their attack I don't know how well they will do. Remember Villa scored 5 out of the 8 goals Spain scored in the entire World Cup. Germany have been slack in their last games. Holland were humiliating and I hardly see them getting into the quarter finals. Italy are past their best days. France are incredibly inconsistent, so... Russia it is! Quote
prateek Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 So far, Italy, Russia, and some players from Germany (Hummels, Ozil) have impressed me. I can't wait to see the France vs. England game, seeing as how good the other games featuring two big teams were. Quote
TheSwampCreature Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Surely that Croatia goal was offside vs Ireland? 2 or 3 yards offside. :/ Quote

Palathadric Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Too bad for Ukraine to lose against France, although I can't really to say they deserved to win. I hope they win their last game though. It would be great to have them in the knockout round. Too bad for Sweden and Ireland to already be sent packing, especially Sweden who played two good games there and unfortunate to lose them both, but superb work by Walcott it has to be said. I would love for Netherlands to beat Portugal and Germany to beat Denmark just for the fun of seeing who would actually go in between Netherlands, Denmark, and Portugal. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I would love for Netherlands to beat Portugal and Germany to beat Denmark just for the fun of seeing who would actually go in between Netherlands, Denmark, and Portugal. It would depend on the goals, and if that is the same: the result between them. I don't have high hopes. The Dutch players are only interested in their own success and money it seems, we have got players that are highly succesful in the normal competition, two of the top scorers in two of the highest level leagues, and suddenly, when you know they won't get a lot of it, they play bad? Dreamweb Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I checked this forum on the first day of Euro 2012 and was surprised there was no thread about it yet. It's a good thing that we have one now. Anyway, greetings from one of the host countries. Poland's game against Russia was much better than the opening match against Greece, and I can't wait for today's game against Czech Republic! Go Poland! Quote

I think I prefer Czech as a team, but I am always in good support of the hosts. I hope at least one of the hosts will qualify for the quarter finals. I was very disappointed when Switzerland failed to reach the knockout stages last Euro Cup. I'm a big fan of the Swiss! Quote

Dreamweb Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) Bummer. Oh well, this was only Poland's second time in European Championship finals. 4 years ago we were out of the tournament after 2 matches - regardless of the result of the third one. This time we had a chance in the third game so that still means progress. Congrats to Greece - their victory came as a big surprise. I'm still gonna watch the rest of the games, and I hope Germany does fine - they deserve to win this tournament. Edited June 16, 2012 by Dreamweb Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I'm really surprised Russia was eliminated, I thought they were going to be able to make it specially after the first round. Quote
Palathadric Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I hate UEFA's rules for the teams that are equal on points. Russia are 2 goals the better, as far as goal difference is concerned, to Greece. If it were a World Cup Russia would have been the one to qualify. Unless FIFA are also going to change their rules. I am very disappointed, need I say so. Quote
