Palathadric Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I hate to say this, Scopiox, but I don't think one could have called the match even almost at all. It was utterly one-sided for Italy. Although, at least, both sides kept things entertaining, not like the France-Spain game. It was quite a fun match to watch and Hart did really well. I was really disappointed that he was not able to save one of the penalties and that Cole (of all people) had to miss. Poor guy! But Italy totally deserved it. I think whoever wins of Italy and Germany, although I'm still leaning more towards Germany, deserves to win the cup. The other two haven't been playing interesting football. Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Which teams do you think will be in the final? My bet is on Spain and Germany. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 It won't be England. I think Germany and Spain too,but i thing it might be close.None off the teams are playing there best. Quote
jedi1984 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Which teams do you think will be in the final? My bet is on Spain and Germany. Mine too, even if I'm dreaming of a spain-italy... Anyway I think Germany is doing the best and will win the tournament Quote

I'm all for: 1st: Germany 2nd: Spain 3rd: Italy 4th: Portugal Frankly though, I wish the finals could have been Germany-Italy. Those two teams have been playing the best football of these last four, in my opinion. It should be an interesting match. Italy impressed me against England, but I still think Germany is better. I wouldn't exactly say none of the teams have been playing their best. In the beginning I thought Germany weren't playing tremendously, but they've done really well. Italy have done a lot better than I expected them to. Quote

jedi1984 Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Italy have done a lot better than I expected them to. You're right... And this is more true considering that we've not big names such as cristiano ronaldo and what we did in South Africa Quote
Brickadeer Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) You're right... And this is more true considering that we've not big names such as cristiano ronaldo and what we did in South Africa South Africa is the past, Italy had a different trainer at that time. You have Buffon, Pirlo, Cassano, and Balotelli. Each of them is either pretty good, or pretty good and unpredictable. Edited June 27, 2012 by Brickadeer Quote
jedi1984 Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Well, for Spain it's been harder than we thought... Quote
Brickadeer Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) Well, for Spain it's been harder than we thought... Yes, it was. Portugal played pretty well, but Spain made it to fhe final. I find it pretty hard to say which one was the better team. I'd say that Portugal worked harder and would have deserved to be in the final. Spain, however, performed better in the extra time and during the penalty shootings, especially since in such a tight and crucial situation, Ronaldo should have shot instead of Alvez, so gratulations to Spain. Palathadric Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 and what we did in South Africa Aw...Slovakia-Italy was the best game of the World Cup. Both teams were awesome and played superb attacking football, especially Italy. I can understand why you wouldn't have enjoyed it, being Italian, but for us neutrals it was a lot of fun. Italy's problem was their hugely sucky performance against New Zealand. Pirlo has been in absolutely fantastic form this Euro Cup. He should win the Player of the Championship award. The game was interesting, but a lot of midfield play and therefore not particularly exciting. The teams were very tight, although Spain took off in extra time and we finally saw some terrific playing then. I think Spain deserved to win the penalties. Ronaldo was going to shoot the last penalty. I don't think it would have made a difference if he had kicked an earlier one. He doesn't have the best of records at shooting spot kicks in a shoot out. That's a good summary of the match. I'm really disappointed that Portugal did not go through. It looked so well for us to win the match in the first 90. We played very well and should've gone through, but yet again luck (like in our first game against Germany was not on our side). Really disappointing referee, too; making a number of mistakes, some that really hurt Portugal's chances, too. Pretty bad that one of the worst refs chosen in the tournament were put to the task in the semi-final :/ We had a great tournament and we're leaving with heads held up high. Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 It was a really close game, the hardest to Spain so far, but still I'm really happy Spain won Quote
Palathadric Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 It was a really close game, the hardest to Spain so far, but still I'm really happy Spain won I disagree entirely. Spain struggled against both Italy and Croatia just as much. Quote

Again, agreed here. For a little while during the game, I had thought that there was a chance I'd have both my teams in the final (I'm 1/2 Italian, 1/2 Portuguese), but alas things just didn't work out yesterday. Hopefully things will go better today. Though I do think Germany is a better team right now, our record against them is good, so there's at least that. Quote
Sisco Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 2-nil Italy at half? Wow, I never saw that coming. As much as I support the German national team, Italy has just been playing better than Germany. Bonatelli Balotelli especially. (I'm awful with names. ) Quote
gedren_y Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Big upset! I'm a bit upset, but not much. Yes, I support Germany, but that is for solidarity with my American-German cousin. I'll support Italy in the final. It was said in the group stage that Italy could be the 'dark horse of the tournament'. Looks like it will happen. I'm betting Santino Marella is celebrating right now. Quote
Brickadeer Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 THIS... IS... UNBELIEVABLE... No, it isn't. The German attitude displayed before the match and after Italy-England was what made me fear exactly this result. It makes no sense to state on the one hand that one doesn't fear Italy, and to state on the other hand that one hopes - against all rationality - that England will win. It's a plain contradiction. Apparently, Loew didn't trust offensive players like Reus, but rather "established" players like Podolski and Gomez. When he realized that a lack of offensive power was a clear mistake in this match, it was too late. As for the final, I basically share the view of Ibrahimovic. Quote
prateek Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Germany looked way out of it. Italy totally deserved it. After watching Italy's first game and Netherlands tank, I switched to Italy, and it has paid off! Now Sunday's match will be amazing, or very very boring... THIS... IS... UNBELIEVABLE... Hahahaha I actually LOL'd when I read this. Congratulations my good sir! Quote

I agree with you, loew changed in block podolski & gomez. I found the german attitude very strange too: today the first page of the german newspaper Abendzeitung titled "Arrivederci Italia" [goodbye Italy]... this is a thing no one would dare to say here even if we were going to play with the worst team in the world (we really trust in good luck :-) Hahahaha I actually LOL'd when I read this. Bilbo Baggins Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I'm really surprised about today's result, I thought Germany had an easy win. Go Spain!! Quote
Palathadric Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) I didn't find Balotelli tremendously impressive throughout the game, although I'll admit that the goals were pretty good. Germany looked way out of it. Italy totally deserved it. After watching Italy's first game and Netherlands tank, I switched to Italy, and it has paid off! Now Sunday's match will be amazing, or very very boring... Hahahaha I actually LOL'd when I read this. Congratulations my good sir! Um...did you not see the match stats? Germany did a lot better than Italy. To me it was all up to the first team to score and that was Italy. Before that Germany were the better team. After that, Germany continued to dominate, but were somewhat forced to open up in the back giving Italy greater chance to score. With the amount of space Germany afforded them after they scored, Italy should have done a lot better. Still, I think something was missing from Germany and Buffon and his back four were superb tonight. Buffon for man of the match, totally. Balloteli's two goals would have been worthless if Buffon had not made some of the tremendous saves that he made. I'll be supporting Italy for the finals, but I'm not exactly expecting it to be an exciting match. I may not even watch. Those two teams playing against each other has the potential to be very, very boring. I don't see what's so shocking about Italy beating Germany. Italy are a far more experienced team and just won the World Cup six years ago. Germany have the youngest team in the Euro Cup. It took Spain penalties to get past Italy last Euro Cup, and a tremendous Slovakian team to beat them in the World Cup. Edited June 28, 2012 by Palathadric Quote
Iron-Man Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 My sister is over in Spain for a few weeks studying abroad, so for that reason alone I will through my hat in for Spain! Plus my gf has a crush on Ronaldo and Spain took him out so that doesn't hurt Quote
