with an emerald night with power functions on the purchase, i decided i really wanted to do something with the one i bought for my 18th birthday. i wanted to originally make the locomotive a tank engine of some description but after some work in ldd, i'd need to spend more than what i could afford, so after some tinkering i realised i could get the boiler smaller.

and from there i headed down the victorian path to a D3-looking steamer. i hope to display her at Queenscliffe bricks this month, hopefully with some decals :)

Interesting mod Mikka. I like the red accents, esp. the front of the locomotive. Your additional details add some nice interest as well.

The shape is quite good, obviously you need to work on the rods, but the overall dimensions look right. I do think that the colours are in need of work - there's too much going on. Replacing the green for black would merge the components a bit better, hiding connectors that are currently visible in grey. The red would look better if it continued under the boiler as the footplate too. Definitely a good start, it has a lot of potential.

well after some changes in detail, im glad to say i'm leaving this project in a completed state. it has be fairly modified to get rid of the red and light bley, also the splashers were removed and firebox modified to suit the prototype more. i numbered it D3, 688. it from what i know is stored in an inoperable condition at one of steamrail's victorian compounds. no doubt i'll be nagging steamrail to paint it emerald green when they by chance restore the real thing. :D

anyway, more pics

the rods are a custom job. and run quite smoothly.

I think you have done a grand job! The engine is looking good.

Looking really good there. It is nice to have some close ups of the wheels an rods as they are something I usually struggle with on steam engines.
