88high Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 (edited) Hello all! I was testing my RC unit today to make sure it would be ready for my next moc. However, much to my dismay, it all of a sudden quit on me So, I am looking to you guys because I think Zblj had a topic similar to this, but I can't seem to find it! Well, here is what I did to it: It was pretty dusty from driving my I-bean suspension truck Offroad in some dirt, so I decided to clean it off & change batteries. When I still had the old batteries in it, the steering motor would not stay to one side or the other, even if I had my finger telling it to go that way still. I also noticed that one RC motor had more power over the other, but I assumed that was because of the cables being sandwitched. I assumed most of the issues above were from the batteries. I took a warm slightly soapy damp paper towel and dusted it off with that. Then I whiped off the excess water with a kitchen towel. I let it sit in a sunny windowsill to dry off even more. 3 hours later, I try and put new standard Duracell AA batteries in, and I connected everything how it should be connected. What happens? It doesn't work! Not any of the motors or the steering motor!!! So, I check my batteries, make sure they face the right way. I check the channel. I try different channels, I switch my antennas, I replace the batteries in my remote... I have even tried unscrewing it, which I stripped all screws...ugh I just bought this RC unit brand new from a sealed 8367 hot flame RC set. It has only been in around 10 of my MOCS. None of them have been boats. Nor have i shorted it with a battery box (my buddy did that). I have all treated it very nicely! I don't see why it quits on me all of a sudden! I really need your help here to determine what happened or how I can fix this. It is probably my most valuable piece, so it means very much to me! It is at least worth $50.00USD! Can any of you help me fix this, if not help me get a replacement? (I know TLG doesn't make them anymore) Thanks for your help and suggestions! Edited June 13, 2012 by 88high Quote
Crtlego Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 (edited) I'm sorry that this has happened to you. It is extremely unfortunate. As the owner of two of these units myself, I can understand your frustration and the despair that comes with these pieces being as rare and expensive as they are. Personally, I do not have any troubleshooting experience other than what you have already tried so I do not know what else can be done to fix your unit. I know that Lego cannot help since it was not sold directly from them and this piece as rather antique.. Unfortunately, the only alternative I can think of is to buy another one When I first bought this piece (used, but tested and in working condition.. and with the remote and 2x antennae) from bricklink, the price was around $60 total (I can't remember whether or not this included shipping but shipping-for me- was probably around $10 since it was from Germany? to the U.S.) and I was extremely happy to see that the price had payed off and that the piece was in fact working.. I was so impressed that I eventually bought a second one.. but only when, out of the blue, I saw a Bricklink wanted item notification that told of one such part being sold for 50 CENTS from a distributor in Texas. I could not believe my luck. The description said that is was not tested-since it was so old, I was skeptical that it would work at all but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try. I immediately purchased it and the end price was just under $5 due to shipping. The piece arrived shortly after and, to my surprise, it worked just as well as the first one!! I've never had such luck with buying legos until this purchase and up until that moment, I never thought I would be as lucky as the few who have found entire Supersonic RC sets at garage sales and etc.. but let me tell you that such chances do exist. In fact, just yesterday, I believe I saw one receiver on Ebay for only $5. Since I already have two, and I'm currently not in the business of buying and selling Legos, I did not check the condition and the description. It may have already ended, or will be ending soon but I have not been able to find it-I do not recall which search terms I used.. I wish you the best of luck with your RC unit. -Crtlego Edited June 13, 2012 by Crtlego Quote
88high Posted June 14, 2012 Author Posted June 14, 2012 @crtlego Thanks for your concerns. If you happen to find or buy a working 3rd one, and you buy it, I will buy it from you. You seem to have a lot more luck with Lego than me! Quote
88high Posted June 14, 2012 Author Posted June 14, 2012 Oh my gosh I am so relieved. I just had to change out the battery in the remote. I feel so stupid right now. I guess the RC remote uses more battery's than the PF system! Quote
Sariel Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I feel so stupid right now. Sorry to add to it, but the word is "despair", not "dispair". Quote
le60head Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Sariel, shouldn't you post a video about "not forgetting to check the remote controller battery this time? Glad you worked it out 88high! Quote

I would have been glad to send you one if I one was made available to me at an affordable price ..And I assure, that was the only time I've ever been lucky.. with anything Oh my gosh I am so relieved.
