Legonardo Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 wow. so many details, thanks for the close ups! I have fallen in love with your brig, I think I am going to have a try at one fairly similar (It wont be as perfect as yours but still) please keep updating us with more of your fantastic ships! ~Legonardo~ Quote
Frank Brick Wright Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 That sails! Superb! Also I totally understand why you kept your grille design from Achille, I love it too I saw those nice hawseholes over there so will you connect the capstan to the anchors? I'm fascinated with the way you worked her all over, the small details you added, she is beautiful! The only detail you could add as far as I can see is the waterholes, I think one or two would look nice Quote
Aalak Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Thanks for the pictures of the first ship. Seeing the names on the sail reminded me of something I still have to do myself again on my fleet... But I really like the new way you attached the yards! And OK, now I'm jealous!!! Can't wait for number 2... Quote
lego_legis_legere Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Wow... You have a very impressive fleet (my favorite one is Sirène, because of the design and especially the mix of colour). Your fleet is so useful for a (modest) M.O.C.er as me, I'm very inspired by your building technic. Thanks for your post, you made a very hard/impressive work ! Quote
BrickPerfection Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 I have started adding square sails to my ships, next will be staysails and possibly studding sails. I'll start with Medée since I believe Legonardo could use some more pics of her. Quote
Captain Settle Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 You would feel safe being captain of that ship, having Cannons in your cabin . I really like the cargo hatch on that ship, nice attention to detail; and those sails look very realistic. Good work. Quote
Aalak Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Thanks for the new picutures! Are these pumps? Or what are they supose to be :) Nice design if they are pumps, but I'm quite not sure about that. I like the way you attached the spanker to the mizzen mast. I guess it's more stable that way - I`m still using two 1x2 technic bricks for that --> I guess I will change that with my next ship. Quote
Legonardo Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Dankeschön! The pictures are great, they help a tonne! I hope to finish La Fayette early September (a long wait but it gives me more than enough time to participate in GoH and finish the ship at a nice standard). once again thanks! ~Legonardo~ Quote
Commander Laquiet Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Superb! I must admit I have a very soft spot for the Furieuse. You seem to have a real knack for the smaller ships (smaller 4 I mean). The other two are lovely as well, but there is something very lively about the littler ones. They create that wonderful sense of Lego-ness while still being historically accurate and detailed. I think when you get that effect you're onto something. Sails look lovely too. Great work! Quote
______ Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Love these ships! What I really like is the use of black hulls, a lot more accurate and they look a lot nicer on LEGO ships. Quote
BrickPerfection Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Well, after I've been largely inactive for half a year or so, I've started finishing my fleet last week and before I post pictures of the current progress, I found it more appropriate to post those from July 2011 that I haven't posted yet. Let's start with "Concorde". She's a 32 gun frigate on 6 midsections, which is the same as Achille. Unlike Achille however I've been using the lower parts of the new prefabs and my beloved NextGen technique that in my opinion allows for much more accurate shapes. Another difference is the modularity; I chose to make only the sides modular so that the rigging doesn't need to be compromised. In my personal opinion she's the most beautiful ship I'v build so far, but judge for yourself! Quote
Aalak Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Simply Amazing! i like the idea with the removable Walls instead of the Deck. But how did you attach the Stern - which is the best One of yours. Can't wait for the next pictures! Quote
Capt. Stabbin Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 She is beautiful!! All the details!! Just perfection! And that's why you are one of my favorite ship builders. Thanks for the update, and it's great to see you back on the forum! Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted February 13, 2013 Eurobricks Emperor Posted February 13, 2013 You are doing things that I thought would have been impossible on this scale of ships. Yet, here's proof it can be done. I'm talking about adding such detailed interiors, removable walls, etc. You make it look all so easy while I know it is quite the opposite. My deepest respect! Any chance you would consider coming to the Eurobricks event (in Germany this time) with some of these ships to show them IRL? Quote
Grimmbeard Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Wow, just amazing! everything is so nice, detailed, and smooth! Quote
Sebeus I Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Yummy, those sails . They say nothing is perfect but I say this is pretty close . Quote
Brickington Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 How does one get so talented? You are amazing! Incredible! Quote
pogie Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I am blown away by these sails. Incredible. Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 What an amazing piece of work! I think you already were the best ship builder on this scale, yet you keep improving yourself I have nothing to complain about this ship. I'm in awe. It's a very clever technique you've used to make the sides removable. The way I did it on the Vesta works too, but I think this is more smoothly. Which do you consider the best? Removing the sides or removing the decks? The pumps are also superb. But why does the door to the captain's cabin have such a strange shape with slopes? Is it to give more strength when you attach the sides? And how are things going with your 74 gun ship? Finally, it's good to see a croissant on the table. A must for every commander! Quote
Mr. Townsend Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Oh my Perfectionist! This is no doubt the most beautiful ship in your fleet. There are so many points of interest but my eye immediately goes to the stern. The stern is so tremendously beautiful and so very French. You've really nailed it here. The removable sides are an interesting change. I know you stated it for rigging purposes though I'm sure it must make the entire structure much more sound. Fantastic vessel! You've outdone yourself. Quote
Sebeus I Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 But why does the door to the captain's cabin have such a strange shape with slopes? Is it to give more strength when you attach the sides? I think they combine with the slopes on the side to make a perfectly closed cabin . You can see it on the right in this picture. Quote
Mark of Falworth Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Breathtaking work! Someday I'll have to try building a real ship! Keep up the great work! Quote
ManInATopHat Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 WOW! They're all amazing! Great work! Quote

But how did you attach the Stern - which is the best One of yours. Can't wait for the next pictures! Thanks! I used one of the new style hinges - it's hidden in the table. Any chance you would consider coming to the Eurobricks event (in Germany this time) with some of these ships to show them IRL? Many thanks! I'd really love to come to an Eurobricks event at some point, but I'm afraid this year it won't work out. When there's another possibility to put some ships on display however I might do that. What an amazing piece of work! Well, the older two frigates now have both: a removable deck and sides. Personally I consider removable sides superior in all aspects; they are easier to implement, quicker to remove and allow for better playability. It's also possible to leave one side open and one side closed when on display. The only reason I made the removable deck back then is because I couldn't make the sides modular with the old style hinges. The Superbe has been broken up. Also I've sold a lot of Lego already, so I don't really have bricks for anything big anymore. I'm still looking for ways to get rid of many of the specialised parts I've bought for her though. I must admit that building ships at minifigure scale with such high ambitions is very risky, expensive and time-consuming. I figured that since I won't have the necessary ressources in the near future, it would be best to terminate the project. I think they combine with the slopes on the side to make a perfectly closed cabin . You can see it on the right in this picture. Exactly. Well, like I said these pictures are from July last year. All staysails are already in place, I just didn't take pictures yet. Currently I'm working on studdingsails; I started with Achille: Edited February 14, 2013 by Perfectionist Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Now I see this image again, there's something which you might want to improve. I like it that you've added studding sails, and they look great, but perhaps they could be attached slightly different. If you look at this image, and this one, you'll see that all the studding sails are attached to a yard which is a bit lower than the big yard to which it is attached. Also, the main and topsail studding sails are attached to two smaller yards if you look real closely but I'd understand if you don't do that. Anyway, it's just a very small detail and of course you're free to do whatever you want, but concerning your user name you might like to know this for future builds. Good luck! Quote
