I already said in the future I was taking measures to preserve old grey in lieu of you educating me Mr Norro. Where did you get the idea that I wasn't planning to preserve it?

Past actions X-D, no it is just a generalization of anyone who chooses to touch ,build, display etc old grey lego..

And I think the next question Mr Norro, if you happened to come in possession of a Classic Castle set in MISB, lets say the original Yellow Castle would open it?

A MISB Yellow castle I'd probably sell X-D to fund more vital purchases, a MISB 6086- well now you're tempting me...

God Bless,

Nathan

By similar logic Sting could determine that all Lego is of lesser importance than say an ancient egyptian artifact...

Well that depends on the artifact doesn't it? Artifact seems to range in value, a pyramid filled with treasure would seem to hold greater value than some rusty spearheads lost in the desert.

It wasn't until yesterday I decided to preserve it because I wasn't aware that it was so delicate. But surely there's a way to preserve old gray and use it, while once a MISB set is opened then its no longer a MISB set and its value significantly decreases.

You don't have the choice to sell, its either open or keep in MISB. Which one is it?

How about sell and buy a MISB 6086 to open and build plus lots of used lego X-D ?

Realistically I have a space issue, all Lego boxes (MIB in my case not MISB) must occupy a tiny portion of a closet, and even that is getting tight. Even though the yellow castle is far more valuable than anything in there, I like the ones I have (they are all from sets I really enjoyed) and so I don't think I would make room for something I wouldn't value as much...

What do you mean by sell and buy a MISB? Where's the selling come into it?

But as for the Yellow Castle. You haven't really answered. So hypothetically if one day in the future you had the space and the MISB yellow castle, would you open it?

I've added a poll to this thread so

Good idea Mr. Phes.

If I had a MISB (pirate) set, I would probably try to sell it and make some profit (to buy other Lego).

And if I would buy one for myself, then of course I would open it.

When I buy (old) sets, I prefer to have the box still included. But I won't pay much more to have a MISB.

I just can't enjoy the Lego if I can't touch it.

first, I think there still are many 1000's of MISB pirate sets. Lego produced these things in millions, so no worries. Furthermore, many collectors are selling collections as well. You just have to set up a network of contacts in the Lego community, build a few friendships here and there. The only difficult thing is having enough money to buy the stuff when they offer it :-D

i don't think I actually have MISB pirate sets, but if i did, I probably wouldn't open them, but get a used version. Still, I think a set could be seen as a good old bottle of French wine: you keep it, treasure it for a while and open it on a very special occasion.

Sell the yellow castle and buy a MISB 6086 (preferable to me).

Even if I had space in the future I probably would still go with sell, I don't feel the need to horde lego, and when I open a MISB set it is normally from a carefully selected list of sets I have always wanted to own in top condition (there are only around 10 I would pay a premium for, and even then only a small one...) The yellow castle would really only be useful to me for the visors, so it would be far better to pass on to someone who is collecting MSB sets...

Indeed!!! :capn: :capn: :capn: :capn: :capn: :capn: :capn: :capn: :capn: :capn:

well that probably wouldn't improve things. they'd give it a new number, marking them as a "rerelease" of the original

Neither did I, but it's a good thing that it did.

I think there are 1000s of MISB sets left out there and my decission on whether I should open a pirate set if I get one is HELL YES!!! 8-o

91 posts in six days, that's a lot!!!

This is the ppirate LEGO forum after all!

It appears most people on this board share roughly the same opinion as I.

Yes, that's why I created a poll because I suspected this would be the case. I didn't want to make it look you were some kind of fiend for opening MISB sets so I thought it would be a good idea for other users to share their opinion.

No, that's good. The seperation of my original thread was...unexpected...

Why would you not expect any separation? Every time a pirate thread goes way off topic I split the thread. Nothing shall go to waste!

I have a couple MISB that I want to keep as they are (sealed) for I have plenty of used sets, figs and parts from the Lego pirate series. There is simply no need for me to open them since if I want to build, I can simply take the used sets and the bucket with spare parts and figs and take things further from there.

If you do not have much to spend on Lego and stumble accross a small or medium size sealed set I can imagine people opening them to add the set or scene to the rest of the (built up) collection. It depends on the size of your collection and how you look at Lego in general whether you would want to open the sets. Everyone must decide that for themselves.

It simply is a matter of perception and financial capacaties as well, I would say. Basically, Lego was meant to be a building toy but I happen to know quite a few AFOLs who like to treasure their sealed sets and preserve them in exactly the same way they found them.

This is the case with me. I do not have enough Lego, especially Pirate Lego, to leave sets MISB. I love to build too much, and having perfectly good pieces in a MISB seems like a waste for someone with my collection: I simply need the pieces and enjoy opening the set far too much to leave it. If I had enough, I would probably reconsider.

I agree. Lego was meant to be enjoyed. If one enjoys keeping the sets in pristine condition, than that is totally fine with me. If one wants to rip the box open and build, than go ahead.

Mr Sting, I don't mind trading my used sets for your MISB sets. That way you can have the pieces without having to open the MISB sets :-D

That's very generous of you, why don't you stand on that beach and I'll shout the location of the used sets back to you from the deck of your ship?

God Bless,

Nathan (who did like POC1)
