Admiral Coco Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 It's very nice, but I do have a two problems: I can see the gap between the prefab hull and the upper-bow. You could use tiles to fill it in. You could also use brown window frames on the very back of the cabin. I do, however, thinks it's a very nice ship, and I like the use of hands on the bow. Quote

I'm also missing a third headrail and I think the lantern looks a bit too flat. I'm also not sure on the double steering wheel for such a small ship, but I could be wrong. On the side galleries, the brown part that is angled sticks out lower then the stern, or is that the angle in the picture? The grey line in the black also seems strange, what is the purpose for it? I hope this feedback helps you out a bit, good luck on finishing her! Quote

BrickPerfection Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Well,I feel honoured you start copying a ship that hasn't been finished or even shown in detail yet, but there are a few remarks I'd like to make: While I like to refer to ships build entirely on prefabs as NextGen, I also meant to include a brickbuild stern in that term, I used SNOTed slopes as you can see here: I uploaded some more pics of Medée too. I also agree that the grey line seems a bit out of place and that a single steering wheel would do better than a double. Also consider that Medée is build on 4 midsections, 3 might be a bit short although I'm certain it works for a smaller brig. You mentioned a limited amounts of parts.. well I don't know what you've got but to be honest I'd chnage the red sides for tan, dark red or even yellow. I know I used the same colourscheme on Achille back a while, but I'm not entirely fond of it anymore. The headrails and stern design look really creative and well done! Historically small ships with an open gundeck like a brig of war or a Bermuda sloop never had any tumblehome, check Architectura Navalis Mercatoria by Henrik Af Chapman if you don't believe me. Quote

I noticed the brick-built staern and chose not to follow it not because i didn't like it but because I don't have the parts. the grey line is there because I didn't have enough black hinges to complete the bow/stern. I am aware that the Medee is built on four and while I have four, if I where to stretch it out more I wouldn't be able to tile the deck (I'm not able to do it right now, what you see in the pics is all i have) and I don't have enough cannons to fill that. the other option is to turn it into some sort of sloop/schooner on 2 mids and work on that, I'm not too far into this project so changing it wouldn't be a huge hassle. I know my parts are limited and I really should get more but I don't want this to turn into an expensive project, eventually I will make ships and havethe whole thing done up to perfection but at the moment I'm close to broke and I have a felling that won't change too soon You mentioned a limited amounts of parts.. well I don't know what you've got but to be honest I'd chnage the red sides for tan, dark red or even yellow.
