It will be interesting in 10-15 years to see if many of those little girls who got lots of Friends sets will grow up to be AFOLs in their twenties. And bidding against each other on eBay for old, rare discontinued 2012 Friends sets.

That's an interesting thought. I know when I got into Legos as an adult, I really didn't look at gathering up any of the old sets I had as a kid. I'm mostly interested in where Lego is going, so to speak. With that said, as the Friends line is something brand new, I could see some nostalgia for it in the future. I'm sure there's people right now stock-piling Friends sets to flip in the future.

My money is on Friends, both on longevity and lucrativity. It has the makings of a new evergreen line (TLGs attempts to attract girls is an evergreen theme itself) and it seems to be very succesful. LotR will live as long as there is media pushing it, as many others here have stated more eloquently, and its buyers are mainly LEGO history fans and general fantasy fans. My conservative (hopefully wrong) bet is 2-3 waves of LotR/Hobbit sets after the last movie comes out.

Last November I posted a 120,000 piece Rivendell. I'd like to downsize this to make an official LEGO set under 5,000 pieces. In near future I plan to update with more realistic pics of the project. Please support if liked at link. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks,

Not sure why he bumped it with that post, but it is pretty interesting to look at this now that the result has been decided. Funny to see how much people were dismissive of Friends. While I don't have any numbers it certainly looks like Friends is the clear winner sales wise, and will continue to go stronger as the Hobbit theme ends.

Yeah I thought similarly. How many waves were we expecting? Well we got 2 of LOTR, plus 3 for The Hobbit, and it seems that it disappeared off the face of the Earth with little fanfare. So far for Friends? 2 per year for 3 or more years already? Then it has 2 spin-off themes, 1 of which it was thought would be the fantasy castle replacement for LOTR, haha. Looks like Friends won that one too!

It seems you solely posted here to promote your project. So I deleted the link!

Why did you bump a thread 3 years old

Super Heroes also started in 2012 and has done ok unlike dino although looks like they might come back as JW. 2012 was a big year.
