I saw this movie the other day (Not in 3D ) and I was stunned. Incredible visual effects, and decent storyline. I can understand why some people are complaining but still enjoyed it myself. This is definitely the "must see" film at the moment.

You obvioucly haven't seen the movie or weren't paying attention. It has everything to do with the movie and topic at hand that was being discussed.

I know what you're saying, but the Clone wars and district 9 topics kind've got that way too and people still figured things out and it stayed on topic. The movie brings up some phillisophical or at moral issues that people want to talk about. As long as it does'nt start a conversation about something that has NOTHING to do with the movie EVEN when making a POINT it probably should be fine! (I did'nt aim that last sentence at you Zapper btw )

Probably one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The special effects were breathtaking but not over the top, and the 3D was subtle yet made the movie even more amazing. And while the movie was a bit cliche, the story was still amazing and very original. And to tell the truth, box office numbers don't lie. Every movie that has made of 1 Billion dollars has been amazing.

Avatar is gonna be a trilogy. The next part is coming quick because he already designed almost the whole world.

I'm planning on going to Avatar either today or this weekend, but does anybody know 'till when it will stay in the cinemas? (In the Netherlands)

I'm looking forward to it, it looks great and I hope it will be for me too!

Meh I really dont think it should be made into a trilogy. The first one was really cliche. Big guy does something horrible to the underdog, underdog fights back and wins. The visuals were great but story lacked in some parts and could have been cut down a half hour.

Really a sequel? Don't get me wrong the first one was visually astounding but in story and characters it seemed rather lacking. What exactly are they going to do in a sequel, I couldn't see any loose ends that still needed to be tied up, there's no need to continue it any further. The sequel will probably just have the humans come back some big megablocks battle between the Na'vi and humans then everybody lives happily ever after and they'd be in the exact same place as they were at the end of the first.

But then again I s'pose anything that can still make money will be beaten to death; 'till it makes no more (glances over at Lego Star Wars ).

I rarely watch movies, very seldom go to see one in the theater, but I did today walk in and watched Avatar.

It is an experience I'm glad I have now. Not too exited, not disgusted, just glad

I'm not going to see this movie, It's one of those follow the crowd things, Like Big Brother or Rap Music. Especially not after I heard all the strange things happening. Mabye on DVD but It doesn't catch my eye.

This movie is strange, theres been plenty of sci-fi planet movies, Star Wars, Star Trek e.t.c But I have never heard of Trekkies committing suicide to join the Star Fleet!

Okay how many people do you know that have died from watching a movie. To be honest people comitting sucide because of wanting to go to pandora is really ridiculous. If you've seen the movie it seems that Pandora is an extremely dangerous place especially for us humans let aone the Nav'vi.

Anyways don't judge the film just because it's an "event" movie. Following that train of thought you might as well not read the Harry Potter book series or never watch Star Trek or Star Wars. Avatar is the type of movie that you have to see at the theatres to really get enjoy the special effects. Unless you have a really big screen tv you won't really be seeing the movie for what it is on dvd. My mother does'nt like sci-fi films at all and when she went to see it, she told me she really loved it.

If you don't see it at theaters and you're just waiting for it to come out on dvd then you'll be missing out on it.

I didn't like it that much, but I'm glad that I went to see it in a theater. It's perhaps the only movie where, if you aren't that excited about it, you should go see it in a theater and the NOT buy it on DVD. Without the 3D and huge screen, it's Pocahantas with blue people. You really need to see it as it was meant to be seen to get anything out of it.

Saw this a few weeks ago. Meh. The visuals were great, but thats were it stops for me. The story was lack luster and unoriginal. It also was very predictable. So much so, i felt like i had already seen the movie before i actually did.

I know this may be U.S. related only, but it's been nominated for Oscar Best Picture. I personally believe even out of ten picks it's very likely to win since I think the Academy really wants to go with spectacle this year, and Avatar won at the Golden Globes.

Meh, not really. Sure the Oscars are prestigious but with the time zones they arent on at the best time to watch and here in New Zealand we are more sports persons orientated rather than celebs

Although it has broke a U.S. record for release in december, it has hit 236,000,000 world wide. that was just before Christmass. Kind of odd that it would hit $1 billion in profit in less than 1 month after its release.

I was talking about $1B worldwide grossing. Anyways, this movie is now #1 all time worldwide grossing; it even broke $2B. IMDB link to list. I bet if there is an Avatar 2, it will be more successful than this

There are two ways to get controlled by the crowd, one is to always do whatever the crowd does and the other is to always do the opposite of what the crowd does...

It is not that strange, it is just a movie, and a good one with good 3d fx though the script is incredibly predictable. I mean, remember when you watched Titanic and you knew the thing was gonna sink? It is exactly like that...

No neither should Americans, they rigged, just like all other awards.

I went and saw it on Saturday, and I was pretty much breathless when I came out, and I only saw it in 2D (15 pounds for 3D is a bit expensive, but it seems I may have to go again just for the thrill! )!

Sure, the story was a bit boring, but I also felt it had some really deep messages underneath, and it has to be said - that pilot should get an award for being the most badass-female-pilot ever to grace the big screen!

Yeah, every damn film nominated is American, I wish there wasn't a "Foreign Film" category and instead the judges just considered all films regardless of production location. Same for Animated feature, the only time a foreign film won was with Spirited Away, and while I'm a week or so off from seeing it I hear its only because it was so good it blows the mind!
