When looking for replacement thread, make sure you get a good quality cotton thread as opposed to nylon. I bought a reel of black nylon jewelry cord at JoAnns to replace the drawbridge strings on my black monarch's castle, but the string is too slippery and won't stay wound on the lego technic axle. The drawbridge just falls back down after winding it back up. Cotton string isn't as slippery and will work better for things like this.
