OzBen Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Top review I will be waiting longer than most to get this one, we are a bit slow here in OZ lol. I love the colour combo and i can picture myself leaving this one out to play with and annoy my wife Quote
davidmull Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Blakbird have u any pics of the crawler with power puller wheels on? Also did u drive it with those wheels or does it loose a lot of power? Quote
mostlytechnic Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Have to say, I'm glad this won't be out in the US for a while because I'm sure I'll be buying one the day the local Lego store gets them, and I just don't have time to build it right now. :) Quote
DLuders Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Maybe you could take some pictures of the Crawler with the Power Puller tires on. There are four BIG pictures of the 9398 4x4 Crawler with the Power Puller wheels & tires on this Doktor Brick Community post. Quote
captainmib Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) Here is a question i haven't seen answered: IS this a true technic set? Apart from the driving it doenst have any functions. Blackbird says its a great toy, and i'm sure it is, but is it technically challenging? Are the axles providing enough build fun, since it's the most complicated part of the build. Maybe i'm whining, but i just like complicated sets with nice functionality. I hope someone can answer this: why should you buy it? ------------------------------------ Edit - btw thanks for all the pictures and review! Edited June 28, 2012 by captainmib Quote

It is a basis for our mocs. We can make it complex with many functions using our brains and hands - this is technically challenging, not buying ready complex set that you dont want/cant improve. Jetro Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Here is a question i haven't seen answered: IS this a true technic set? Apart from the driving it doenst have any functions. That depends on your definition of Technic set. If you want a set with lots of mechanisms and cool features, get something else (the Unimog, or maybe the 9396 helicopter). This set doesn't have any manual functions (if you don't count the opening doors to access the battery box and the way you can lift up the upper bodywork to get access to the battery), but it is certainly a Technic set as it uses gears and motors to make things move - and very well I might add. Was the 8275 bulldozer a Technic set? Well, there's your answer. Quote
mahjqa Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) IS this a true technic set? Yes. Apart from the driving it doenst have any functions. Yes. Maybe i'm whining Anyone notice a pattern? I hope someone can answer this: why should you buy it? I suggest buying sets you like, and not buying sets you don't like. Blakbird Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) Those rods were in many (22) sets, including 8070, 8145, 8110 and others. Not the same rods. The rods in 8070, 8145, and 8110 are black, but they all have stops on one side. They are not the same as these. I just went out to my shelf and checked. 4 Blakbird: First motorized wheeled set was buggy from 8082, around 90s. I mentioned that one (and linked to it) in my review. I'll do some tests and post some pictures with the power puller wheels on later tonight. Edited June 28, 2012 by Blakbird Quote

Alasdair Ryan Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Thanks for the great review.I look farward to getting my hands on this set later in the year. Quote
Siegfried Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Wonderful review! I've just skimmed though it (it's 2:30 am here!) and it's clear that I need more time to appreciate your work. Quote
Erik Leppen Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) Man, this is problematic. I had sort of decided that I wouldn't be getting this set, for budgetary reasons. But now I see this review, it seems too cool to let go by.... Maybe I should just get the motors and all orange and white parts, and use my own collection for the more generic parts. But if I do that I might already be halfway this set's price... Edited June 28, 2012 by Erik Leppen Quote

JopieK Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Nice review! Nice primer also. Wonder what the difference is of V2. Did they change the IR protocol as well?! The motors look nice but I hope they will be nicely priced. Quote

The motors look nice but I hope they will be nicely priced. I'm definitely interested in compatibility between IR V1 and IR V2. Is it backwards compatible? Do we need new remotes? Etc... Quote
bord4kop Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 The old IR Remotes/recivers work with the new ones, this is confirmed I really like you review. It 's pretty thourough Thanks for the hard work! More pictures of 'the build' here Quote

Erik Leppen Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Question: is the axle hole of the servo motor hollow all the way through? Or are they two separate axle holes at either end? I.e. can one put a long axle through or does one need two axles, one at either end? Quote

Masked Builder Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I've always like Technic, and while I haven't gotten any sets in quite a while. This set is a great example of why I love Technic, and it looks like a very good set. Do you have any videos of it driving? Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Thanks Blakbird for the nice review and pictures. In the Netherlands whe get them at august just relief inn the shops, and the prices they ask now at pre order are lots too high, it's about €180,00 and i waight a little when the price is normal again. Jurgen Krooshoop Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 You can see the white 5x11 panels which I believe are new. They're not new. I don't know what set they're from, but I have 2 of these white panels in my parts collection, and the set isn't available in my country yet. It looks like I'll have to wait another 2 more months before I'll be able to get the set ... Quote
